Chapter 425: Chapter 413: The Anxious Person Suffers Disadvantage
Justin’s quote was 1.8 million US dollars, but the price of the equipment was 1.3 million US dollars, meaning Justin had tacked on an extra half a million in mark-up fees.
Yang Yi could’ve withstood an additional hundred or eighty thousand, but half a million was too much to swallow. Organization of Water was now so strapped for cash that they couldn’t stand being gouged like that.
Seeing Yang Yi’s astonished expression, Justin laughed sincerely and said, "Rush fee, I did mention there was a rush fee. To get this much stuff in three days, do you have any idea the risk the suppliers are taking? So there’s a two hundred thousand US dollar rush fee."
"That’s still only 1.5 million then!"
"My time is very valuable, hey, buddy, you have to understand something. Many of these equipments are controlled items, especially the night-vision gear. Trust me, this is the best night vision you can buy with money! Without me, you couldn’t get them even if you had the cash. So, I have to earn some hardship pay for myself, you understand, right? I didn’t include the extra cost in the price of the equipment but instead told you that I charged these fees. What does that tell you? It tells you I’m not charging a lot."
Yang Yi shook his head and then exclaimed loudly, "No, no, that’s not right. I can understand charging a rush fee and making a bit of profit as hardship pay, but you have to be clear on one thing, it was you who were in such a hurry to find us, you!"
Yang Yi pointed at Justin and then said angrily, "You haven’t forgotten so quickly, have you? If it weren’t for your urgency, we would still be in Finland right now. It was you who were in a rush to get us here, so I had to hurry you to help buy equipment. If you weren’t in such a rush, we wouldn’t even need this equipment so urgently. We wouldn’t even need to buy these guns and bulletproof vests, buddy, we’re spies, not mercenaries."
Justin was stunned because what Yang Yi said made sense.
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "It’s already unfair enough that we’re spending our money to buy the equipment you need us to use. And now you want us to pay for your rush fee and your benefit fee too! Come on, that’s not right, buddy, it’s really not right!"
Justin was actually rendered speechless.
What was Yang Yi afraid of? He knew he held a valuable bargaining chip; doing business without squeezing Justin for a higher price was already generous, let alone letting Justin swindle him.
"Uh, you... you make some sense. Alright, how about this—I’ll take less. You pay 1.7 million in total then," Justin said.
Yang Yi turned his head away disdainfully and Justin immediately said, "Um, I feel like 1.6 million is fair."
Yang Yi looked at Justin and said in a deep voice, "I’ll take a step back and not ask you to reimburse us for the cost of the weapons and gear, but since it was you who urgently called us over, then you should cover the rush fee. 1.3 million US dollars, deducted from our commission."
Justin opened his mouth and exclaimed, "Fuck! You’re joking, right?"
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "Isn’t that right? You’re the one in a hurry, not us, buddy. Get that straight."
There’s a difference between asking for help and being asked for help. Justin repeatedly wanted to say something but stopped, ultimately nodding and saying, "Alright, fine, I’ll pay for it, fuck! I really should have added the money to the total and quoted that, fuck!"
"If we couldn’t afford it, then we wouldn’t buy it. You know Organization of Water is poor now."
Justin was somewhat annoyed; he hadn’t made a profit, and in fact, it seemed he might have actually lost money, but whether he lost money or not, only he knew.
"Go inspect the goods, quickly; I’m in a bad mood now, hurry up and take your stuff and go!"
Yang Yi got out of the car, then waved his hand and said, "Guys, go get our stuff."
Whether it was the weapons or the night-vision gear, everything had already been packed in boxes. They couldn’t start using the items outside the airport, so in the end, they just checked them over briefly—after all, they didn’t even have their own vehicle right now.
Once Yang Yi and his team had finished checking their items, Justin said solemnly, "Find a place to gear up. Tonight, I’ll let you meet Jethro. What do mercenaries compare with each other? Combat power and equipment. When you flaunt your gear, it’ll definitely intimidate everyone."
As true as that was, to really know how strong the combat power was is one thing, but to see if the gear was good or not was another, clearly visible at a glance. A mercenary group equipped with top-grade gear certainly has more confidence in setting their price.
No more words were needed. Since Justin arranged where they would stay, Yang Yi waved to the people from Organization of Water and said, "Get in the car, we’re leaving."
The place Justin arranged for them to stay was not far from the airport. They headed a bit south, still within the sight of the airport terminal in a flat housing area, where four cars entered a large courtyard.
After closing the yard’s big gate, Justin led Yang Yi and his team into the house.
The house was sparsely furnished, but it had the basic necessities for living. After showing Yang Yi and his team inside, Justin said in a serious tone, "This is where you’ll stay. Whether we need to change locations will be up to Jethro’s arrangements. For now, rest up. I’ve got some things to handle. Wait for my call, you’ll meet Jethro tonight."
Justin left hurriedly after speaking, taking his people with him but leaving the car carrying Yang Yi’s equipment behind.
The equipment was carried inside the house box by box, and unable to restrain his excitement, Yang Yi shouted, "All right, open the boxes, take your stuff. Guys, it’s the best in the world, all top-quality."
First, they took out eight sets of night-vision goggles, one for each person, followed by eight sets of walkie-talkies, again one per person, and then the rifles. The remaining gear had to be distributed differently.
The TAC-50 sniper rifle was prepared for Paul, as was a thermal imaging scope.
Xiao Ran had her own rifle; she didn’t need additional procurement, even the thermal scope was her own, and Yang Yi similarly could use the Alexander sniper rifle, but he also needed a set of thermal imaging scopes.
There was one spare thermal imaging scope, which might be used by Zhang Yong or Brian, but for the others using rifles, a thermal imaging scope was not as necessary.
Truth be told, they were still poor. If they had the money, Yang Yi would surely have gotten a thermal scope for everyone.
Zhang Yong suddenly shouted.
"Amazing stuff!"
Yang Yi looked at Zhang Yong, who was holding a bulletproof insert and excitedly said, "Look, everyone, look! It’s a Level III ceramic bulletproof plate from Huaxia. It can stop 5.8mm armor-piercing rounds and definitely 7.62mm intermediate rounds. I’ve used it; it’s good stuff! Really, really good stuff!"
After setting down the bulletproof plate he was holding, Zhang Yong picked up a noticeably heavier plate and said loudly, "This one’s a Level IV plate. Justin prepared two sets of these for us, so considerate!"
