Chapter 424: Chapter 412: Astronomical Price
This is business, and when it comes to business, friendship shouldn’t be involved.
Actually, Yang Yi and Justin didn’t have much of a friendship to speak of; they had only cooperated once, and then Justin had helped Organization of Water find a training ground, but Yang Yi had paid for it. The favor Justin did by acting as an undercover for Yang Yi in Deyo was already repaid.
So, Yang Yi definitely had to bargain with Justin to secure the greatest benefits for himself. However, with no intelligence at hand, he could only wait until he actually had information to negotiate seriously.
Moreover, you can trust the intelligence from an information broker, as their credibility is essential to their livelihood. But aside from intelligence, you mustn’t listen to anything else they say. Befriending an information broker would be irresponsible to your own life, wouldn’t it?
Yang Yi wasn’t willing to set a price in advance, and Justin wasn’t in a hurry. He just chuckled dryly twice, then said solemnly, "We’ll keep in touch. Give me any valuable intelligence you have; I’ll pay for it, and the price will definitely satisfy you."
"Of course, no problem."
Justin exhaled and said, "There’s nothing else you need to be wary of. This is a mission filled with uncertainties, and I can’t offer you too many pointers. You all need to be careful, but with your combat strength, I’m sure there won’t be any problems."
Yang Yi felt rather helpless. He had worked hard to build an outstanding spy team, yet in the eyes of others, Organization of Water was seen as having superior combat strength. To change this situation and to truly make a name for himself in the intelligence circle, he wondered how long it would take.
"I have a request."
Justin looked at Yang Yi and said, "Go ahead, but don’t ask for too much."
Yang Yi spoke very seriously, "You have to help us make a name. After I obtain valuable intelligence, you’re responsible for making the Organization of Water’s name very famous in the intelligence circle!"
Justin let out a sigh of relief and laughed, "That’s all? Of course, no problem. I’ll make sure you’re famous. Of course, this has to be mentioned after the fact, or else your mission won’t be able to proceed."
"Of course."
Justin glanced at his watch, then said in a deep voice, "Your equipment is in another car. If there’s nothing else, you can go get your gear, and then I’ll personally take you to meet Jethro."
After pondering for a moment, Yang Yi said, "Can we rest for a day or two? I need to deal with some things, but if it’s inconvenient, then never mind."
Justin shook his head, "You’d better handle your matters as quickly as possible. I’m eager to leave Ukraine, and meeting with Jethro personally will make you more esteemed."
Yang Yi smiled and asked, "May I ask you a question?"
"Is it the kind that requires a fee? If yes, you’ll need to pay, but I can deduct it from your commission. So go ahead and ask."
Yang Yi found Justin’s request to be completely reasonable. After all, a spy could sell a piece of information for a lot of money.
Yang Yi spoke very earnestly, "It’s troublesome for us to carry weapons during operations, but you seem to do it very easily. I want to know how you manage that?"
Justin furrowed his brows and said, "I’m wondering whether I should charge for this question, but then again, I find it too simple to even feel right about charging for it. So I’ll just tell you for free."
With a look of resignation, Justin said solemnly, "If you want to enter and leave any country as freely as going home, of course, that’s difficult. But the Cicero Family has been operating for a very long time, and they have the freedom to enter many countries and to land private planes quickly and conveniently at airports. This is the result of decades of the Cicero Family’s efforts, just a part of the Cicero Family’s power, that’s all."
Although Justin didn’t like being called Mr. Cicero, he was indeed part of the Cicero Family, so of course, he could use the Cicero Family’s resources.
Yang Yi also wished he could freely move between countries, but the Organization of Water still falls far short of that capability.
"I have no more questions."
"Then let’s get out and check the inventory. Now you have to look the part of mercenaries, uh, you’re called Trident Mercenary Group, right? So what’s your alias? Still ’Sea God’?"
"No, in the Mercenary Group, my alias is ’Robot’."
Justin took out a little notebook, quickly wrote down a few lines, and then he said, "I have to write it down, or I’ll forget. Trident, leader called ’Robot’, and the fake name?"
"You actually need to put it in a book? Buddy, that doesn’t seem too wise, does it?"
"Please, I have to remember details for over a hundred mercenary groups. Their names change often, people change often, how could I manage without jotting something down? Don’t worry, the information in this little book won’t be seen by anyone; this is my top-secret data."
After thinking for a moment, Yang Yi said, "A fake name... Just call me Mike Yang."
Yang Yi decided he would use this alias ’Mike Yang’ from now on, wanting to honor Mike with it.
"Alright, the name is Mike, that’s good."
Justin put away his notebook, then opened the car door and said, "Come down to verify the inventory, oh, this batch of equipment is valued at one point eight million US Dollars."
Yang Yi was startled and said, "Wait! How much did you say?"
"One point eight million, here’s the list. I thought you’d check the items against the list. Would you like to look at it now?"
Yang Yi took the list.
Eight helmet-mounted night vision devices, each costing forty thousand US Dollars, three thermal imaging scopes, each one hundred thousand US Dollars, and two thermal imaging search devices, each seventy thousand US Dollars. Just these night vision devices alone totaled seven hundred and sixty thousand US Dollars.
Yang Yi’s voice trembled as he spoke in a hushed tone, "This is just too expensive!"
"Expensive? You asked for the best! All of these are the best! Believe me, you won’t find better goods than this. Do you know how much effort I put into getting these night vision devices? Do you know how much the expedite charges were?"
Yang Yi took a deep breath, then he said quietly, "Six SCAR-L rifles, equipped with red dot scopes, five thousand apiece, that’s not expensive, but does a simple white light scope really cost sixty thousand?"
"It seems you’re not familiar with the prices of military hardware, especially the market for high-end scopes. Buddy, these scopes are of the same model used by the Green Berets."
Yang Yi said nothing more. On Justin’s list, a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle cost only forty thousand US Dollars, yet the matching scope for the sniper rifle was priced at sixty thousand—he had to admit he really didn’t understand the prices.
Eight sets of heavy bulletproof vests with helmets, twenty thousand per set.
Eight sets of walkie-talkies, totaling eighty thousand.
Bullets, Yang Yi asked Justin to purchase three types of specialized sniper rifle ammunition, totaling fifty thousand.
Additionally, there were eight sets of combat uniforms, and Justin dared to mark up forty thousand US Dollars for those.
Plus, there were water bags, hand grenades, flashbangs, knives, pistols, magazines, and all manner of things, adding up to another eighty thousand.
Yang Yi did a quick mental calculation and then said to Justin in disbelief, "That’s not right, all these items together only come to one point three million!"
