Chapter 415: Chapter 403: The Benefits of Being New

Alexander’s intention in giving away the gun was too obvious. Yang Yi had merely mentioned a solution off the cuff, and Alexander went with the flow and gave him the gun.

Yang Yi was a bit stunned, but his hands were quick, and he immediately took hold of the gun.

Paul also seemed somewhat taken aback, but he could only wave his hand helplessly.

"Don’t mind it, buddy, I’ll send you another one, an improved version of the gun," Paul said. "You like a two-stage trigger? No problem, you can even customize the trigger yourself after adjusting it to your liking, how about that?"

Paul was even more astonished because such a gun was not cheap. A prototype gun in development was not just a question of how much it cost—it was very possible that this model would never hit the market, and if that were the case, no amount of money could buy it.

"Why?"

"Because you have extensive shooting experience and valuable gun modification experience. I really need a sharpshooter like you to offer valuable advice, buddy. That’s why I’m willing to make another new gun for you."

Alexander was indeed very generous, not hesitating to give away two guns, and the one for Yang Yi even came with a scope.

Although Pasanin jokingly mentioned a price of a million dollars per gun, the weapon really wasn’t cheap—as for the scope on Yang Yi’s gun alone, it cost over forty thousand dollars, the top of the line.

"Oh, boss..."

Pasanin appeared helpless as he reached out to Alexander with both hands, his face full of woe. "Aren’t you tight on funds? You just borrowed four million dollars from me, but then you gave away two guns."

"It’s okay, it’s okay," Alexander said nonchalantly. "I’ll pay you back once I cash out the money in the stock market."

"You know I’m not asking you for money..."

Alexander waved at Pasanin, then turned to Paul and said, "You must know already, I’m the leader of the Aurora Mercenary Corps. May I ask about your background? Of course, if it’s not convenient to answer, never mind."

Paul glanced at Brian, who pondered for a moment and nodded slightly.

With Brian’s permission, Paul turned to Alexander and said, "CIA, Pandora Squad, currently with the Organization of Water!"

Alexander’s eyes widened in surprise, and then he exclaimed loudly, "Pandora? You are Pandora, my goodness, I am honored to meet you."

Taking a deep breath, Alexander looked over the members of the Organization of Water and then said with a satisfied expression, "Ladies and gentlemen, I’m a precision shooter. During my years as a mercenary, I took part in many battles, and I’ve always wanted a good gun, a dream gun that I hoped to acquire. So after retirement, when I had the time, I started to develop and produce this gun."

Alexander sat back down and spread his hands, "It’s not easy to develop a gun from scratch, and it’s even harder to make the perfect one. I’ve put a lot of effort and significant financial resources into this gun, and so far, I’ve spent over ten million dollars!"

Xiao Ran couldn’t help but say, "A perfect gun?"

Alexander laughed heartily and said, "There is no such thing as a perfect gun. No single gun is suitable for everyone or every battle. What I want is a perfect gun for me, a precision shooter’s dream gun. Everyone knows that bolt-action rifles are more accurate than semi-automatic rifles, which have a higher rate of fire. What I want is speed, accuracy, power, and long range—so I don’t always have to carry two guns into battle."

Pointing to the rifle in Yang Yi’s hands, Alexander spoke gravely, "This gun already meets my needs, but it’s not meant for shooting enthusiasts or armies. It’s meant for combat."

Yang Yi asked, "Why isn’t it for the army?"

Alexander laughed and said, "Because it’s too expensive. I’ve spent over ten million to make just a handful of guns, and not on my own equipment. If I were to mass-produce this gun, I would need to invest at least another fifty million dollars. And as for the military, the price of this gun is too high, it’s overqualified, and their problems can be solved with two different guns. There’s no need to buy a superior gun at ten times the price. You see, rifles for military procurement are definitely the cheapest available."

After speaking, Alexander said seriously, "Starting now, this gun has been finalized and is entering the testing phase. As I said earlier, this gun is made for real warfare, and I am a bit tight on funds right now, so it might not be able to go into mass production. But I still hope to find the right person to test this gun in real combat. I have no intentions of returning to the battlefield for this gun, so..."

Alexander pointed at Yang Yi and smiled, "You guys are lucky, and I’m lucky too. It’s a win-win situation, isn’t it? My only request is that after you’ve used the gun, please inform me about how it feels in a timely manner."

Yang Yi immediately said, "No problem. It’s only right. Mr. Alexander, may I try the gun now?"

"Of course. It’s your gun now. You can test it however you like."

Yang Yi, a bit embarrassed, said, "There’s one more issue. You said earlier that there was a problem with the gun’s trigger."

In fact, Yang Yi was a perfectionist too. The mention by Paul of scratches on the trigger components during polishing had left him feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

Paul shook his head and said, "It’s not a problem, alright. I understand how you feel. Disassemble the gun."

Yang Yi disassembled the rifle, and Paul took the component he had earlier pointed out as problematic, rubbed it on Yang Yi’s body a couple of times, then handed it back to Yang Yi, saying, "Problem solved."

Yang Yi exclaimed in surprise, "Just like that? It’s that simple?"

"That simple. As I said, it’s an issue that could be avoided with a bit more care. Just rubbing it on a soft cloth a couple of times can fix it. The fact it wasn’t done is just a matter of attitude, and now it’s resolved. Do you feel better now?"

Yang Yi laughed and said, "I feel much better now. There’s absolutely no problem now."

Alexander also laughed and said, "I like perfectionists. Now you can test the gun."

Yang Yi put the gun back together, and then, imitating Paul, he stood at the door and fired a shot.

After firing one shot, Yang Yi turned back to Paul and said, "I think I won’t change the trigger after all. I like this crisp feeling."

Paul smiled, then said to Alexander, "See, that’s the advantage of novices."

Alexander also laughed and said, "Indeed, the advantage of novices. They haven’t had the chance to develop habits yet, so this gun will truly be his because he will treat this gun as his primary weapon, unlike those veteran shooters who can only consider this gun as a secondary option, even if it’s perfect."
