Chapter 409: Chapter 397 Prototype Gun
Robot was not a conventional term, but Pasanin’s excited description of Yang Yi as a robot was indeed spot-on.
In many ways, Yang Yi was really like a robot. His memory was extraordinary, his computational abilities powerful. Parameters and calculations that normal people might take a long time to remember, he could grasp in a short period.
For shooting, "robot" was actually not a complimentary term.
Shooting with a sniper rifle was complex, certainly not just aiming with the crosshairs in a scope at the target and then firing. In fact, unless the target was exactly in line with the bullet’s flat trajectory, aiming with the scope’s crosshairs was not possible.
The further the distance, the lower the aiming point needed to be, and then adjusted left or right according to the wind direction. In short, direct aiming was hardly possible.
A good sniper, when locking onto a target with the scope, could quickly calculate which point in the scope to use to aim at the target. Their experience had already completed the calculation and correction part, meaning they could see the enemy, and without thinking, just know how to take the shot based on experience.
Experience was so important for a sniper that they rarely changed guns, bullets, or scopes, because any change in these three meant having to readapt.
With extreme familiarity with the weapon system, having fired at least tens of thousands of rounds, and well-acquainted with the shooting location, when it came time to shoot, not much preparation was needed, just aim and fire.
Every shooter strove to reduce aiming time, as the battlefield was ever-changing, and the targets wouldn’t stand still like dummies waiting to be shot. They would just expose their heads briefly and then disappear; this was a common occurrence on the battlefield.
Thus, snipers like Yang Yi who needed long periods of preparation, extensive calculations, and slow adjustments before they could fire really did resemble robots.
But even with the stability and accuracy of a robot and a computer’s computational abilities, such traits were useless on the battlefield.
Taking five minutes to prepare for a shot, and if one could still hit an enemy like that, it could only mean that the enemy was suicidal.
But on the other hand, not just anyone could be a robot shooter; so although "robot shooter" was not a term of praise, it wasn’t derogatory either.
One thing should be made clear: being a robot shooter required qualifications. If developing as a sniper required selection from a hundred, then becoming a robot shooter demanded selection from ten thousand, even more, from hundreds of thousands, because a robot shooter first needed to have a super brain.
What Yang Yi lacked was shooting training. If he could greatly shorten the initial lengthy preparation time to that of a normal sniper, then he would be an excellent sniper, a sniper capable of real combat.
For ordinary people, shortening this time would take a very long time, but for Yang Yi, what he was best at was summarizing and abstracting, turning every shot into effective experience.
One needed steady hands for shooting, so currently Yang Yi wasn’t up to par with rifles and pistols.
Pistols in combat relied on feeling, because real combat wasn’t target practice and using pistols meant being very close to the enemy. The enemy would move quickly or hide, and if one had to aim at the enemy before shooting, it would either lead to misses or just shooting wildly at where the enemy was.
Once Yang Yi developed muscle memory through extensive shooting and could hit a close-range enemy without aiming, just based on feeling, combined with his robotic traits, he would also incidentally become an excellent sniper.
It could be said that Yang Yi’s starting point was much higher than most, too much so. What he needed to practice was the relatively simple part; the most difficult part was already handled by the ’plugin’ in his brain.
Simply put, where others had to learn to become snipers, Yang Yi just needed to practice.
It was a case of comparison being the thief of joy. Some people might have struggled to reach a summit, only to find that someone else was born there.
Those who didn’t understand, didn’t because they hadn’t reached that position, and those who did understand, what could they do but curse the unfairness of the heavens in resignation?
"He really is like a robot..."
Xiao Ran’s expression and tone were complicated, while Zhang Yong said without any hesitation, "Not just like, he basically is!"
Paul placed his hands on his head, looking at Yang Yi with a complex expression, and then suddenly said, "Show off and shoot at one thousand five hundred meters!"
Yang Yi turned to look at Paul, then sheepishly said, "The information you gave me didn’t include a trajectory chart for using .338 at one thousand five hundred meters, so I can’t do it. But let me use the 12.7, and it should be no problem."
Paul covered his head with both hands, then muttered resentfully, "Fuck! I hate such monsters!"
Brian smiled and said, "Good, looks like you need to decide on a gun."
Yang Yi glanced at the sniper rifle on the table in front of him and said, "I think this rifle feels quite comfortable, long-range, powerful, feels better than the 7.62 caliber. As for the TAC-50, it seems a bit too big and heavy for me."
Paul took a deep breath, then looked at Brian and said, "I didn’t expect to prepare a sniper rifle for him so soon. Well, let him mainly use this caliber then, he can coordinate with Blade Queen."
Brian rubbed his chin and suggested, "How about starting primarily with a large caliber? We’re currently lacking in large-caliber supporting firepower."
Paul shook his head and said, "The recoil is a bit too much, his body can’t handle it yet, especially since he needs a large volume of shooting for it to be meaningful."
Brian nodded in agreement and replied, "You’re right, start with the Lapua Magnum."
Paul and Brian quickly determined Yang Yi’s path in shooting, and just then, Pasanin interjected urgently, "Wait! Wait a minute! Wait for me!"
Pasanin ran off, then came back with a gun.
Placing the gun on the table in front of Yang Yi, Pasanin pointed at it and said, "Try this one!"
"What gun is this?"
It was Paul who asked, taken aback by the gun Pasanin had presented, as he had never seen it before.
"It doesn’t have an official name yet, um, you can call this gun Alexander No.1."
"Prototype gun?"
"Yes, prototype, test model, .338 caliber, magazine capacity of 20 rounds, semi-automatic."
Pasanin spread his arms and then pointed both hands at the gun, saying, "Who wants to try it?"
Paul lightly tapped Yang Yi and then said in a deep voice, "Prototype gun, interesting, let me try it first."
