Chapter 398: Chapter 386 Irresponsible

The ice surface was lit up, and a tracked snow vehicle was parked on it, its lights shining far into the distance. The plane landed guided by those lights.

The snow wasn’t very deep, just past the ankles, so it was still possible to sit in a wheelchair, but Yang Yi didn’t use one. Kate supported him as they walked towards the bright lights of the snow vehicle.

The body of the snow vehicle looked like a large van, except the wheels had been replaced with tracks.

Seeing the auroras in the sky, Yang Yi understood that his location was, if not inside the Arctic Circle, then very near to it, and in such a place, only tracked snow vehicles could operate normally.

Yang Yi walked towards the bright lights and a person emerged from the shadows beside them. Then, he said in a deep voice, "Hello."

The person speaking was bundled in thick cotton clothing, wearing a hat with a scarf tightly wrapped around his face, revealing only a pair of eyes and nothing more. Therefore, Yang Yi couldn’t tell what the man looked like or gauge his age.

Yang Yi realized he was dressed too lightly, so much so that his teeth chattered as he spoke.

"Hello..."

"Welcome to my domain. It’s cold outside, please get in the car."

The person picking up Yang Yi and the others was a man of few words. He opened the car door directly, and Kate, shivering, helped Yang Yi into the vehicle.

The inside of the car was much warmer. After Yang Yi got in, Brian followed him into the car, and after the two injured were loaded, the rest of the people followed with their gear and took their seats.

After everyone was seated, the man that was waiting to greet Yang Yi and his party took off his hat and removed his mask, revealing the face of a middle-aged man.

"Hello everyone, I’m pleased to meet you. You can call me Pasanin. Welcome to beautiful Finland."

Though his words were welcoming and he expressed his happiness to see everyone, there was not a trace of a smile on Pasanin’s face.

Just then, Yang Yi heard the sound of an engine behind him. He looked back to see the plane that had just brought them was taking off.

Yang Yi turned back around and addressed Pasanin, "It’s nice to meet you. You can call me Sea God, Mr. Pasanin. How much farther do we need to go?"

Pasanin nodded, pointed to the hilly region on the right, and said with a half smile, "Not far now. We’ll set off right away and arrive in half an hour."

Once he was seated at the driver’s position and the snow vehicle began to smoothly move across the ice, Pasanin spoke loudly, "Let me give you a brief introduction to the terrain. You are currently at the edge of my forest. Six kilometers to the west is my house. This is both a hunting ground and a polar combat training field. You’ve come at just the right time since it’s an excellent period to conduct polar training. Ah, what else..."

Pasanin seemed to be asking someone else yet also seemed to be questioning himself. After a brief pause, he added in a grave tone, "I’m not very good with words, nor am I skilled at making speeches in front of people, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me directly."

Xiao Ran immediately asked, "What place is this?"

"Near Rovaniemi."

"Could you be more specific?"

"The nearby northern area."

Xiao Ran spread her hands and didn’t ask any more questions, but Pasanin suddenly said, "Sorry, I forgot to ask, do you know the rules?"

Yang Yi honestly replied, "We do not. Justin said that after arriving here, we should listen to you, and that you would set the rules."

Pasanin nodded and said, "That’s right, it is."

Then the car fell silent again, save for the noise of the engine.

Realizing that Pasanin was unlikely to speak up on his own, Yang Yi said solemnly, "Mr. Pasanin, how large is your timber farm or, should I say, training ground?"

"Eighty-seven square kilometers."

Talking in terms of square kilometers, Yang Yi was taken aback. Then he nodded and said, "That’s quite large."

Brian spoke up, his voice grave, "Buddy, what facilities do you have here, and what kind of training can be conducted?"

"In winter, it’s mainly extreme weather warfare under severe cold conditions. We have forests, lakes, hills. You can imagine what training can be conducted in these geographical and climatic conditions. I have sleds, snowmobiles, and of course, ample guns and ammunition."

Zhang Yong said excitedly, "Buddy, you’re from the Aurora Mercenary Corps, right? Are you guys really retired?"

Pasanin was silent for a moment before he nodded, "Yes, from Aurora, as for whether we’ve retired..."

Pasanin turned around to look at Zhang Yong and then said solemnly, "Yes, we’ve retired. If our boss says we’re retired, then we are retired."

Zhang Yong scratched his head, then eagerly asked, "Then let me ask you a question, if you have retired, why haven’t you made a public statement announcing your retirement?"

Pasanin pondered for a moment and then replied earnestly, "No time."

Zhang Yong shrugged, "You guys haven’t shown up for many years, but you refuse to declare retirement. This makes it difficult for the mercenary groups ranked behind you, like the Angel Mercenary Corps. They can’t find you, so Angel can only remain second."

Pasanin said seriously, "That’s Angel’s problem."

What is Aurora?

Aurora is the world’s number one small mercenary group.

Mercenary groups with fewer than ten people are categorized as ultra-small. Those with more than ten but fewer than fifty are small. Groups with fifty to two hundred members are medium-sized, and those with more than two hundred are large.

In the mercenary industry, small groups are the most common and face the fiercest competition. A newly recognized small mercenary group might disappear forever in less than half a year.

A mercenary group that is well-known throughout the underworld is one that boasts an extremely proud record of battle accomplishments. To be recognized as the undisputed number one requires not just strength but extraordinary strength. And Aurora Mercenary Corps had held the number one position for over a decade. Even if it had vanished without a trace in recent years, its rank remained unshakable.

Where does Aurora’s strength lie?

This mercenary group has never been defeated. It has completed all of its missions, and most strikingly, during the more than twenty years from its emergence to disappearance, it has had zero fatalities among its members.

It’s not difficult for a mercenary group to achieve zero deaths. But to maintain zero deaths while fighting tough battles is not just a matter of being strong. That is a miracle, a divine feat!

However, this miraculous mercenary group is rather irresponsible, at least that’s how it seems according to Zhang Yong. Ranked first, Aurora refuses to show up for tasks and has neither disbanded nor been wiped out.

So Aurora Mercenary Corps still exists. As long as Aurora Mercenary Corps is still around, they remain number one. This is highly displeasing to the Angel Mercenary Corps, ranked second. This frustrates Nate Schumacher, the leader of Angel Mercenary Corps, greatly and even a former member like Zhang Yong is unsatisfied.
