Chapter 390: Chapter 378 Declaration of Position
Watching a very familiar person becoming a corpse brings about an emotion that is not simply sorrow, because you know this person will now forever leave you, and all that remains is memory. Thus, beyond sorrow, there is a greater sense of reluctance to let go.
Yang Yi didn’t want to say anything; he just looked at Mike’s corpse, silently shed tears for a while, then he said to Chris and Hank, "You did well, I didn’t expect to get Mike and Charles back so quickly, and also... you did a great job, thank you."
Hank shrugged, then he pointed at Chris.
Chris stretched out his hand and said, "My pleasure."
Yang Yi took a deep breath and asked, "How did you do it?"
Chris spoke in a grave tone, "I thought it might not be necessary to steal, so I posed as a person from MI5 and entered Scotland Yard, forged a set of documents, and hardly encountered any obstacles. After receiving Mike and Charles, I felt... I felt there was nothing here, and everything needed should be prepared in the London metropolitan area, so I went to a funeral home, found the best mortician, showed him my forged documents, and promised him two thousand British Pounds. Then I bought the clothes they would be buried in, and also purchased the two best coffins available on short notice."
Yang Yi said softly, "Very good; you did very well."
What Chris did was very problematic because he impersonated a person from MI5, and he had met with Gary Keene. Furthermore, once MI5 discovered Mike and Charles’s bodies had mysteriously disappeared, they could easily trace it back to Chris.
Also, if the police discovered there was an issue with Chris’s identity but kept quiet and secretly informed MI5, accompanying him through the whole charade, then waited for Chris to buy coffins and such, after that period of time, MI5 would have had ample time to follow them to this rural villa.
So what Chris did was very risky, extremely risky.
Perspective is different from different standpoints. Chris wanted to prove himself, while Yang Yi was concerned about the safety of everyone involved.
But!
To Yang Yi, what mattered most now was that Mike and Charles’s bodies were back, and Chris handled it very well. So even though Chris’s actions could jeopardize the safety of everyone, Yang Yi didn’t want to say anything at this time.
"If possible, I hope they can be buried here. The scenery nearby is nice," Brian said indifferently, then added solemnly, "I’m not sure who the land belongs to, though."
In the United Kingdom, too, one cannot be buried just anywhere they wish, but Yang Yi also found the nearby scenery suitable for Mike’s final resting place.
As for whom the land belonged to, it wasn’t important. If it belonged to Tang Guo’s brother, then they would just buy it. If not, then they would still purchase it.
Yang Yi said softly, "Okay, I’ll arrange it tomorrow."
Looking around at the people in the room, Brian said gravely, "I would like to talk to Yang Yi alone, thank you."
The others exchanged glances and then left the living room one by one. Although Brian had said he wanted to speak with Yang Yi alone, Paul didn’t leave.
With no one else in the living room, Brian said in a low voice, "I’m in a very bad mood."
"Hmm, I know," Yang Yi replied.
Brian looked at Mike and said quietly, "Mike hated me; he never forgave me. But he took a grenade for me. He didn’t have to die – it should have been Charles and me in the coffins, and if Charles and I had died, Paul would have died there too. So it should have been the three of us."
Yang Yi sighed and said, "Talking about this now is pointless."
Brian shook his head and said, "No, you don’t understand."
After a moment of silence, Brian continued, "I don’t know why Mike was wholeheartedly helping you. I asked him privately, but he was unwilling to tell me the answer. Now can you tell me why?"
Yang Yi was stunned for a moment, then he spoke softly, "I don’t know..."
"Then it will always remain a mystery."
After speaking softly, Brian looked at Yang Yi and asked, "You stood in front of me, blocking the second grenade. Why did you do that?"
"I don’t know, I just did it."
Brian chuckled lightly and said, "The right answer, yes, just did it without knowing why, sigh..."
After a long sigh, Brian, with a sorrowful look on his face, said, "Regardless of why Mike was willing to fully support you, he’s dead now, he died saving me. So I will take on the responsibility he left behind, I will fulfill the wishes he couldn’t."
Brian pointed at Mike in the coffin and said solemnly, "In Mike’s presence, I swear I’ll help you, protect you, and do everything within my power."
Yang Yi whispered, "Thank you."
Brian didn’t speak; he turned to Paul and said in a deep voice, "Paul, state your position."
Paul, still gazing at Charles’s body, said solemnly, "There’s nothing much to say. The moment Charles was struck down, when Mike died for you, everything was already destined."
Brian looked at Yang Yi and said, "You heard him, from this moment on, there is no Pandora, only the Organization of Water."
Yang Yi spoke softly, "You still need to look for Kate."
Brian was silent for a long time, then he sighed softly and said, "If there’s a chance, I will go look for her, but I know the hope is slim, it’s just that I’m unwilling to admit it. Up till now, I owe too much, perhaps... this is God’s arrangement."
After speaking, Brian waved his hand and said, "You should rest, your condition doesn’t allow you to stay here indefinitely."
Yang Yi shook his head and said, "No, I must stay, according to Huaxia tradition, I need to keep vigil for Mike and Charles."
Brian didn’t try to persuade Yang Yi to leave anymore; he pondered for a moment and said, "Chris has done a great job, but you’re right, his way of thinking is not suited to be a spy."
Yang Yi also said in a deep voice, "I originally planned to keep him by Boer’s side, but now I have a new appreciation for his abilities. This guy is indeed a rare talent to such an extent that I’m reluctant to let him go."
"Yes, we shouldn’t waste Chris’s talents. Hand him over to me, I’ll train him into a real spy."
"But he’s not young anymore. Isn’t it too late to teach him the skills a spy needs now?"
Brian shook his head and said in a deep voice, "What skills does a spy need? No, a spy doesn’t have any specific skills that are mandatory. I won’t try to turn Chris into a killer. He only needs to utilize his own strengths, but he will use those strengths with the mindset that a spy should have."
After thinking for a bit, Yang Yi said, "Alright, I leave it to you then."
