Chapter 389: Chapter 377: Different Perspectives

"Chris has the ability, but he has a big problem,"

Brian gently lifted his head and asked, "What problem?"

"Chris once said to me, ’Just treat the person you want to deceive as an idiot,’ that’s his attitude, and his psychological state when deceiving others. Such a mindset might work when dealing with ordinary people; after all, if the deception is exposed while facing them, what’s the worst that can happen? At most, they’ll be called a damn swindler. But with such a mindset being a spy, it could get people killed!"

After pondering for a moment, Brian nodded and said, "Yes, such a mindset could get people killed."

Yang Yi sighed lightly and said, "When ordinary people encounter a swindler, or discover they’ve fallen for a scam, at most they report it to the police. But who are we dealing with? If Chris is exposed, people will die. What I fear the most isn’t him being beaten to death by someone but the enemy setting a trap without exposing him. In such a case, how do we determine whether Chris has been compromised?"

Zhang Yong nodded as well and said, "That makes sense, that makes sense. Chris is like a double-edged sword; if used well, indeed he can be extremely sharp and make a big difference. But just one oversight could lead to endangering us all."

Yang Yi said in a grave tone, "That’s why I don’t plan to bring Chris along. Until his mindset changes, we can’t let him handle anything too important."

Zhang Yong expressed regret, "Chris is talented; it would be a shame to give up on using him like that."

Yang Yi shook his head, "It’s not possible not to use him, it’s just a matter of how to do so."

"Let him see blood!"

Brian finally spoke, his face serious, "The problem with Chris is that he hasn’t changed his mindset. When he understands that once exposed, he could be killed for everything he’s done, his mindset will gradually shift. To achieve this isn’t hard, let him kill or be killed. Make him realize he’s no longer just a swindler."

"Being killed is out of the question. As for killing, we shall see if an opportunity arises. In fact, I do have a suitable position for him."

"What?"

Yang Yi said with a light chuckle, "Boer. We can’t possibly take Boer everywhere with us; Boer is a burden. But to have him manage our finances, Boer is talented. So, let Chris watch Boer, under the pretense of being Boer’s assistant."

Brian said softly, "For now, that could work. But Chris is still useful. After we get through this difficult time, we’ll call Chris back."

"Speaking of Boer, I plan to leave him in London. A good commodity should be kept until its value increases. Although we can’t see any benefits right now, I believe Boer will be of great use in the future. Do you know what ’a good commodity should be kept until its value increases’ means?"

Just then, Xiao Ran suddenly spoke over the intercom, "A car is coming. It’s not Hank’s."

It was a time of crisis, not yet safe, so it was essential to have people watching all around the house. Hearing that a strange car was approaching, especially at past ten o’clock at night, the atmosphere suddenly tensed up.

Of course, the tension was only slight, because if it were the enemy, they wouldn’t likely drive straight up.

"I’ll go take a look."

Zhang Yong stood up, picking up the rifle that was leaning against his chair.

In no time at all, Zhang Yong came back in, then loudly said, "All clear, Hank and Chris are back; they’ve stolen another car."

Soon, Chris walked in, and then, in a grave voice, he said, "Come out and help move the bodies of Mike and Charles inside; we’ve brought them back."

Yang Yi instinctively wanted to stand up from his chair. When he realized he couldn’t stand, he finally said, trembling, "What did you say?"

"Hank and I brought them back."

"We agreed to just recon the place, but when the two of them returned, they had already taken care of everything."

Yang Yi was both shocked and delighted, and said, "Where are they?"

"In the car, I also bought two coffins. The coffins are a bit heavy, so it’s better to call two more people to help."

Yang Yi immediately started shouting.

"Rodriguez! Gweil, Boer, come out quickly, come out and help!"

Yang Yi was very excited. Chris led the people out to start carrying the coffins, while Yang Yi leaned out from his wheelchair, craning his neck eagerly to watch.

Just then, Brian suddenly said, "Chris can’t be used."

Yang Yi was in no mood to consider how he’d arranged his men, so he replied in a rather perfunctory manner, "Hmm."

Brian said in a low voice, "It’s obvious that today’s surprise was arranged by Chris. He didn’t inform us about anything. He just wanted to give us a surprise. I don’t know how he did it, but Chris shouldn’t have acted this way. Success is good, of course, but we can’t afford the consequences of failure!"

The Organization of Water was at its most vulnerable, and while it was great that Chris succeeded, if he had failed, the consequences would have been dire. Whether it was the police, MI5, or even the CIA being drawn in, the Organization of Water would have been effectively finished.

So, although what Chris did was impressive, he should not have done it. His biggest mistake was hiding the entire operation to show off his abilities. Even if Chris had just informed Yang Yi of his plan to deceive the bodies back, giving Yang Yi some time to prepare would have been better than keeping everyone in the dark.

Brian’s face was somber. Yang Yi, on the other hand, was heartbroken and excited. He could no longer spare a thought for Chris’s actions; he only wanted to see Mike’s body as soon as possible.

The two coffins were carried into the living room of the countryside villa. Kate pushed Yang Yi, and Paul pushed Brian, bringing them both up to the coffins.

The atmosphere was solemn and heavy.

Mike’s complexion looked good as he lay there, dressed in a black suit. If he wasn’t lying in a coffin, he would have appeared to be sound asleep.

Charles looked much better too. His neck was missing a large part, but after the undertaker made him up, his complexion improved significantly, and the collar of his shirt covered his neck. If you didn’t lift the collar, you wouldn’t be able to see his severe wound.

Brian looked at Charles, then at Mike, his face filled with gravity.

Standing before the coffin, Paul saluted, then put down his hand and stood rigidly, not moving an inch.

Only Yang Yi, his tears running down unstoppably.

For a moment, no one spoke, until at last Brian broke the silence.

"Charles, my brother..."

Brian reached into the coffin and gently touched Charles’s hand.

The hand was icy cold and stiff.

Brian sighed dejectedly, then he turned to Mike and said softly, "Mike, you hate me, but you saved me. I’m sorry, thank you."
