Chapter 369: Chapter 357 Road Battle
Mike opened the car’s glove compartment, took out a handgun, and then he took out his cellphone.
After gripping the gun in his hand, Mike made a gesture, prompting Yang Yi to immediately slow down, brake at a speed that was sure to anger the car behind them, and then he immediately turned on the left-turn signal and pulled over to the side of the road.
In the United Kingdom, traffic drives on the left, so turning left and pulling over to the left is convenient, but the black sedan ahead was driving on the right-most lane of two, requiring a much larger maneuver to turn left or stop amid traffic.
The black car ahead didn’t stop or show any sign of turning, and simply drove away.
Seeing the car drive off without any abnormalities made Yang Yi doubt for a moment whether he was being overly cautious, to the point of mistaking common occurrences for something unusual.
Mike, however, remained vigilant. He spoke in a grave tone, "If it’s coordinated tracking involving multiple cars, it’s totally normal for the car in front to drive off. It wouldn’t stop and expose itself."
Amid the extremely dissatisfied honks from the car behind, Yang Yi started driving again, while Mike began to scrutinize the vehicles in front and behind them.
Yang Yi was somewhat conflicted. Changing his dinner plans just because he spotted a car that shouldn’t have passed, passing when it shouldn’t have, seemed overly cautious. But, on the other hand, ignoring the anomaly was even less in line with his principles.
Yang Yi drove with one hand and with the other took out his cellphone, preparing to call the car behind to warn them, when Mike, still observing the traffic around them, spoke in a deep voice, "It seems there are no irregularities."
"Should we change our driving route?"
After some thought, Mike said, "Change the driving route. We don’t have to go home, but it’s necessary to alter our path. Never relax your guard. Even if you spend your entire life making a fool of yourself by scaring yourself, it doesn’t matter. But if you ignore a danger you should have noticed even once, that could be the end of your life. So, we change routes and notify everyone to be on alert."
Yang Yi dialed a number on his phone. When Kate answered, he spoke softly, "There’s a bit of a situation; we’re changing our route. Where are you guys now?"
"We are quite far behind you; the distance increased when we were crossing the traffic light, and now I can’t see your car."
Yang Yi glanced at the road sign and then said, "Head towards Hyde Park, cross over using the Serpentine Bridge."
"Got it, I know where that is."
Yang Yi hung up, then called Brian. Waiting for Brian to answer, he spoke in a low voice, "Evade tracking, head to Hyde Park, crossing over from the Serpentine Bridge. Watch for any unusual cars around you."
"Understood, heading to Hyde Park."
Yang Yi hung up the phone, and at the next intersection, instead of going straight as he was supposed to, he turned left.
Their villa was already close to Hyde Park, and since they had not gone far from home, even if they took a detour around Hyde Park, it wouldn’t waste much time.
The reason to go through Hyde Park was because the traffic there was relatively light and the surroundings were open. The Serpentine Lake, which divided the park into two parts, had a bridge across it, and it was relatively easy to spot any trailing cars when driving over it.
Yang Yi made a turn and began to head towards Hyde Park.
If they confirmed they were being tracked, that would be a serious problem. For now, they were just testing the waters, but until they were certain they weren’t being followed, Yang Yi and his team didn’t dare to go home. If they accidentally led the trackers back to their residence before the situation was clear, it would spell trouble.
Charles drove to keep up with Yang Yi’s car, but the car Xiao Ran was driving was too far behind to see at the moment.
Yang Yi constantly monitored the vehicles behind him. He didn’t spot any suspicious ones. After turning a corner, not many cars followed, but the few that were already in the left-turn lane did follow. However, after Yang Yi deliberately slowed down, those cars passed him and drove away.
Confirming whether one was being followed during rush hour was very difficult because there were too many cars. Moreover, experienced trackers wouldn’t stick to the target’s car with a single vehicle. Therefore, up to this point, Yang Yi and his team still couldn’t confirm whether they were being followed.
Not having walkie-talkies was a nuisance, but Yang Yi and his team were going out to eat; they couldn’t very well stay fully armed.
What Yang Yi did was call Kate’s phone and leave it off the hook, while Mike kept a call going with Brian’s phone.
They could already see Hyde Park up ahead. Yang Yi sped up, driving at a fast but reasonable speed, while Mike held his gun, vigilantly scanning his surroundings.
A sedan approached at an even faster speed. Yang Yi saw it in the rearview mirror and immediately became more vigilant. In fact, every time a car passed him from behind, he would become alert.
Brian and his team, of course, also noticed the car that caught up from behind,
From the outside, there was nothing abnormal to see. Yet, when Yang Yi looked further back in the rearview mirror, he again noticed that black Vauxhall, although at this point, it was too far away for him to confirm whether it was the same car with the anomalies because Vauxhalls were all too common in the United Kingdom.
When unable to make an accurate judgment, if the circumstances seemed favorable, one would assume it wasn’t a problem. If the circumstances seemed unfavorable, one would assume it was a problem.
"That car’s back. Everyone stay alert. I must confirm if it’s the suspicious car!"
Yang Yi shouted aloud, and just at that moment, the fast-approaching car from behind overtook Brian’s vehicle and then swerved sharply in front of them.
"No!"
As Yang Yi shouted his objection, he heard gunshots and the sound of shattering glass, coming from the phone.
"Under attack! Under attack!"
Mike yelled into both phones, and on Brian’s car, no one screamed, only intense gunfire could be heard, while in the back seat of the car in front, two automatic rifles were firing at them.
The car Brian was in immediately lost control. After swerving to the right, it was hit in the front by a car speeding in the right lane, then veered to the left, crashing head-on into a large tree.
Yang Yi hit the brakes, then he furiously turned the steering wheel and pulled the handbrake, bringing the car that had been speeding along to a swift U-turn, while Mike shouted, "Back up, quick! Quick!"
The car that had suddenly attacked Brian’s team was now reversing at high speed. Yang Yi drove head-on towards it, accelerating rapidly.
Just then, Brian yelled into the phone, "Peeler is shot!"
