Chapter 336: Chapter 324 Bitcoin
Tang Guo arrived.
Yang Yi and Schultz both drove to pick up Tang Guo. Schultz was carrying her simple luggage, while Yang Yi personally opened the gates and welcomed Tang Guo into the villa.
To show their welcome for Tang Guo, all members of the Organization of Water were waiting to greet her. As Tang Guo walked through the door and saw everyone in the living room, she appeared to be somewhat surprised.
Mike smiled and said, "Hi, welcome to our place, Candy."
Candy gave a slight bow to everyone and said with a smile, "Hello everyone, I’m delighted to meet you."
It wasn’t until Tang Guo spoke that her impact was truly felt.
Xiao Ran, with a look of surprise, exclaimed, "Wow, what an adorable little sister!"
Yang Yi’s face was full of black lines. Although Tang Guo indeed looked young, calling her a little sister right off the bat was perhaps a bit too much.
With an embarrassed expression, Tang Guo said, "I’m 27, so could you please not call me little sister..."
Xiao Ran still had a face full of surprise and said, "Your voice is really sweet!"
Tang Guo sighed helplessly.
Boer cleared his throat and then greeted with a smile, "Hello."
Watching the polite Boer, Yang Yi silently praised him in his heart; Boer had indeed seen the world.
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
Boer’s question shocked everyone, including Tang Guo.
Looking at the astonished Tang Guo, Yang Yi’s eyelid began to twitch, and after a moment of stun, she replied, "I... don’t."
Boer smiled very happily, but just then, Brian put his hand on Boer’s shoulder from behind then said in a deep voice, "Go back to your room. I need to talk to you about something, Xiao!"
Xiao Ran looked at Brian in astonishment and couldn’t help shivering.
Brian pointed towards Xiao Ran’s room, and without saying anything more, Xiao Ran’s face immediately turned very ugly.
Brian then turned to Yang Yi and said seriously, "Now that Candy has arrived, let’s not waste any more time. We have urgent matters to deal with, so let’s get down to business."
Kate immediately smiled at Tang Guo and said, "Please, come this way."
Tang Guo said loudly, "Please wait a moment; I have something to say. Since I’m joining this team, please don’t call me Candy. My English name is Karen, my Chinese name is Tang Guo, and my nickname is White Roar. I think it’s better to be more formal."
Kate readily agreed and replied, "Okay, my name is Kate. Please come this way; we have a task that we’d like your input on."
Tang Guo was unaware that she would be facing a major responsibility upon her arrival, so even the introductions were skipped, and she was immediately taken to the dining room which also served as the meeting room.
Once Tang Guo sat down at the oval dining table, Mike did not hesitate and said, "We want to extract some data from the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Transportation Department, and now we’d like you to offer a solution."
Tang Guo might have had a soft and sweet voice, but her style of doing things was anything but soft. Most people would first ask why they need to hack into the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but Tang Guo went straight to the point without any dilly-dallying.
"Sure, what data do you need?"
Yang Yi pulled up a photo of Mihal’s daughter and said, "Use facial recognition technology to find this woman."
Tang Guo looked at the computer and contemplated for a moment before saying, "I need a high-power data transmitter, a high-performance computer, and a set of mature and effective facial recognition software."
Mike said in a deep voice, "Give me the model numbers, and I’ll go buy what you need, but it is going to be up to you to assemble everything."
Tang Guo appeared very calm. After pondering for a moment, she said, "We will also need a set of facial recognition software. Current facial recognition technology is already quite mature. However, we cannot use those available for download on the internet because you, no, we, need identification software of a higher grade than civilian technology. For instance, the level used by the FBI and CIA to identify suspects. Such high-level facial recognition technology is not downloadable from the internet; it’s a high-security system of many countries."
Kate couldn’t help but ask, "Why not?"
Tang Guo smiled and explained, "There are many reasons. Simply put, we need, no, we, require identification software that’s a grade above civilian technology, like the kind the FBI and CIA use for identifying criminal suspects. That level of facial recognition software cannot be obtained online—it’s part of many countries’ high-security systems."
Yang Yi asked, "How do we find it?"
Tang Guo glanced at Schultz beside her. Schultz shrugged and said, "Red Flash."
Tang Guo too smiled, "Exactly, Red Flash."
Looking at Yang Yi, Tang Guo said sweetly, "We can purchase the most advanced facial recognition software currently available in the United States from Red Flash. He can get us the newest version that the US is using right now because he was one of the developers of this software."
Yang Yi and Mike looked at each other, then both nodded in agreement. Soon after, Yang Yi said, "Then let’s buy it from him. Can we contact him now?"
"Yes."
Tang Guo immediately turned to Schultz and said, "Please get my computer."
Smiling and shaking her head, Tang Guo stood up, took a pink laptop out of the bag she had brought, booted it up, and then quickly sent a message to Red Flash.
Soon, a reply came back.
After a short wait, Tang Guo said to Yang Yi and Mike with a smile, "He can sell it to us for two million US dollars."
Mike took a deep breath and said, "Two million dollars just for software? That’s quite expensive."
Tang Guo still smiling, explained, "This software was developed with a government grant from the United States, which invested two hundred and sixty million dollars into it. Up to now, it has only been used by a few security departments. Two million US dollars is the friendly price Red Flash is offering us."
Without further hesitation, Mike immediately said, "Buy it!"
After typing a few lines on her computer, Tang Guo then said, "Red Flash wants to be paid in Bitcoin. Hmm, speaking of Bitcoin, I actually have an idea."
Yang Yi gestured and said, "Please, go ahead."
"You mentioned setting up a cyber intelligence center. The power consumption for a computer system capable of being called a cyber intelligence center is enormous. It would also require a dedicated space to house the computer systems. This could easily expose us due to the large power consumption. I think we need to disguise it."
Mike, who always took the cyber intelligence center very seriously, said without hesitation, "Yes, we definitely need a disguise."
Tang Guo smiled, "Then, how about establishing a Bitcoin mining farm? We could use Bitcoin mining machines to camouflage our intelligence center. Whether it’s the data flow or the power usage, it would perfectly cover our real purpose. Besides, we could make money too."
Mike frowned, "What exactly is Bitcoin?"
"Bitcoin is a kind of virtual currency..."
Mike waved his hand, "Please, don’t explain. I don’t really need to know. Just tell us what you need, and we’ll provide it. I trust your abilities, and I trust your judgment. But for now, let’s focus on the task at hand."
