Chapter 335: Chapter 323 It’s Not That Simple
Brian had nothing more to say, but Mike turned to Schultz and asked, "Is there a solution?"
After a moment of thought, Schultz dejectedly replied, "This is not my area of expertise. I don’t know how to resolve this, but White Roar certainly does!"
Schultz was still in the habit of calling Tang Guo ’White Roar’.
Yang Yi had never delved into matters related to hacking because such things were particularly draining. To become a master hacker, one would need to devote nearly all of one’s energy to it, and without a special passion for it, ordinary people wouldn’t normally invest so much effort into studying computers.
But Yang Yi didn’t need to come up with a solution; specific jobs should be left to the experts.
Tang Guo hadn’t arrived yet, but she would soon. If this matter needed to be handled by Tang Guo, then they would have to find a way to hurry her along because the mission was urgent and of great significance.
Yang Yi and Mike exchanged glances, and he saw that Mike was hesitant too.
Whether or not to include Tang Guo was entirely up to Mike, as far as he was concerned, because he didn’t see anyone he could control as a threat. If Tang Guo could focus on serving the Organization of Water, all would be well. But if Tang Guo couldn’t work for the Organization of Water, silencing her by killing her was the way to go.
Mike seldom killed with his own hands, but the phrase ’ruthless and merciless’ described people like him.
As for Yang Yi, his attitude was not to rush. The matter of Tang Guo’s joining could wait, depending on her family background or any other factors that might prevent her from working in the Organization of Water. After all, she knew nothing about the Organization’s affairs, so parting on good terms was fine.
So, with Mike, who was hoping to get Tang Guo quickly onboard and directly into the Organization of Water, there was malice; whereas with Yang Yi, who intended to keep Tang Guo on the periphery to evaluate her, there was good intent.
But now, it seemed they no longer had the luxury of vetting Tang Guo before including her.
At this moment, Brian, looking puzzled, said to Schultz, "I think I get what you’re saying about a physical connection, but to what extent does it need to be achieved?"
Schultz said enthusiastically, "For example, two mobile phones can transfer files via Bluetooth, which is easy to understand, right? Imagine the Transport Department’s database as one mobile phone, and our computer as another. If we can establish a Bluetooth connection, we can transfer files. But, what if the Transport Department’s phone doesn’t have Bluetooth at all? How would you make the connection? In that case, we’d have to help the Transport Department’s phone establish Bluetooth functionality, and then we could carry out the data transfer."
Brian nodded as if he half-understood. He actually wanted to ask what Bluetooth was, but ultimately he said gravely, "Continue."
Schultz raised his voice, "The databases of the Transport Department or the Home Office are incredibly large, and locating an individual’s record when you know the number or name is easy because the data flow generated by such simple queries is very small, and a single computer can easily handle it. But our situation is different, we know nothing. To use facial recognition technology to search through countless images and match facial data, we will generate an enormous data flow. The current data transmission channel is too small, it’s as if we tried to transport all the cars from the United Kingdom to France using only a tiny country road; a traffic jam is inevitable."
With a dawning realization, Brian said, "So we need to build a highway."
Schultz nodded, "Exactly, and it’s not just about building a highway. We have two ways to solve this: one is to go inside the Home Office or the Transport Department and search directly within their databases, like not having to drive cars from the UK to France because we’re already in France. The other is to install a large data switch, which is like constructing a super-wide highway between the UK and France."
Schultz had explained it clearly enough, and Brian said in a deep voice, "How do we install this switch?"
Schultz scratched his head helplessly and said, "I’m not very knowledgeable about hardware, White Roar is more familiar with these things. No matter what, we will need someone to connect this switch to the Home Office’s server. At this stage, it’s like what we see in the movies; you will have to sneak in, set up the equipment discretely, and then I can hack in and conduct the facial recognition. Also!"
Schultz spread his hands and added, "To achieve all this, just a few personal computers won’t suffice, we need a supercomputer."
Yang Yi asked, "Which level of supercomputer are you referring to?"
Schultz smiled and reassured, "Don’t worry, we certainly won’t need a supercomputer with quintillion-level calculations per second. It’s just a high-end version of a normal computer—faster processing speed, larger storage. It’s hard to give you an exact figure, but you can think of it as having about the computational power of a hundred consumer computers. It’s just a personal supercomputer, not on par with those national supercomputers."
Yang Yi looked at Mike again.
Mike had always talked about establishing a cyber intelligence center, and now, before it was even set up, they needed one.
Mike said gravely, "It seems we have to infiltrate the databases of the Home Office or the Transport Department."
Yang Yi said in a low voice, "But this is a legitimate department of the United Kingdom; can we really do this?"
Mike nodded and stated, "We must, or finding Mihali Kovacek will just be empty talk."
Brian said solemnly, "We can carry out the infiltration!"
Mike asked indifferently, "You’ll need to install the data switch, can you handle it?"
Brian looked at Paul and Charles, who both shook their heads slightly, leading Brian to pause, then say in a low voice, "No..."
Schultz said softly, "Gentlemen, there’s an issue—we don’t even have the processor for handling large data streams yet..."
In movies, everything looks so simple. One person sneaks in with a USB drive, and no matter what data is downloaded, it takes only a few seconds, always completed just in time amidst the most critical situations. Just like that, so easy.
But when it actually came to doing such a thing, Yang Yi felt how incredibly troublesome it was, and how many restrictions there seemed to be.
Yang Yi was very troubled, deeply so.
Schultz looked at Yang Yi and said quietly, "I suggest we get White Roar here as soon as possible. She will tell you what kind of processor we need and how to install it. I specialize in hacking and cracking, but she’s the expert in this area—or Red Lightning would do."
Yang Yi let out a sigh and said, "I’ll call Tang Guo and ask her to come here as soon as possible. As for the evaluation, let’s first sort out this mission and then discuss it."
