Chapter 330: Chapter 319 The First Task
Yang Yi was somewhat aware of the major happenings in the underground world.
Big Ivan was being targeted by the United States, and then Big Ivan disappeared, creating a sensation. It was quite normal for Big Ivan’s intel to skyrocket in value due to the various interests involved.
However, Yang Yi didn’t understand why Justin wanted Deyo Mather’s intel, especially sensitive information like his location.
Disregarding everything else and only wanting intel on Deyo Mather’s whereabouts indicated that someone intended to eliminate Deyo Mather; otherwise, knowing his location would be meaningless.
Yet in comparison to the exorbitant price for Big Ivan’s intel, the value of Deyo Mather’s intel seemed ridiculously low.
Yang Yi said softly, "The price for Deyo Mather’s intel seems a bit low, doesn’t it?"
Justin replied with a smile, "The market decides. Right now, no one wants Deyo Mather’s intel, so the price is naturally low."
Yang Yi understood; this was Justin’s investment. He first bought Deyo Mather’s intel. If nobody wanted it, then his five million US Dollars would be wasted, but if there was demand, Justin could resell it at an astronomical price.
What was this? This was a prediction of the market.
Unlike weapons or commodities like gold and diamonds that are tangible wealth, intel is often just a piece of information with strong time-sensitivity. Previously obtained intel could become worthless if held onto for too long, so the price Justin offered wasn’t too low, considering it was a highly speculative piece of intel.
Deep down, Yang Yi still wanted to deal with Deyo Mather, as the downfall of the singer and the death of Kate’s parents were ultimately due to Deyo Mather.
However, the Organization of Water obviously lacked the capacity to take action against Deyo Mather’s group. Justin was just making hay while the sun shone—if the Organization of Water inadvertently came across information on Deyo Mather, they could turn it around for five million Dollars. Why not do it?
Thus, this task was also a matter of casting a wide net. It was down to luck; if you stumbled upon it, you earned an easy five million. If not, there was nothing lost.
The tasks were all too daunting for the newly established Organization of Water, so Justin’s words were essentially of no significance.
But Justin clearly still had goods to offer. He watched Yang Yi’s and Mike’s reactions with a smile and, seeing that neither of them bit, said promptly, "What I’ve mentioned before are open tasks. Now, I have a standard task."
Yang Yi gestured, "Please, go on."
After pondering for a moment, Justin said, "Mihali Kovacek, Polish. Ten days ago, he fled with seven hundred thousand Euros in cash. It’s very likely he has come to London. Find him, and the reward for this task is five million US Dollars."
Seeing the look of confusion on Yang Yi’s face, Justin explained with a smile, "Mihali Kovacek is the second-in-command in a Polish gang that recently had an internal conflict. He was on the losing side. But he holds many secrets, and the ones who posted the task fear he might spill something he shouldn’t, so this task is urgent, but the reward is also substantial."
Yang Yi asked in a serious tone, "Is there a time limit?"
"There is. Find him within a month, and it’s five million US Dollars. I’ll get a twenty percent cut, which is one million US Dollars, once the intel is confirmed to be accurate."
Mike said with a smile, "Finding someone and having only a month to do it isn’t an easy task."
Justin spoke seriously, "No need to haggle, this is the task. If you’re okay with it, you can take it."
Mike also smiled, "It’s not about haggling. Just trying to understand the details of the task. Why would this person come to London? Is the information reliable? Do you have a photo?"
Justin replied gravely, "There is a photo. Mihali Kovacek’s daughter lives in London with British nationality. After Mihali Kovacek fled, he is very likely to come to London to find his daughter. He just escaped from Poland two days ago."
After some thought, Mike said, "A task like this isn’t worth five million US Dollars, so where’s the difficulty?"
Justin spread his hands, "There’s a photo of Mihali Kovacek, but his daughter’s photo is from six years ago. She was seventeen at the time. No one knows where his daughter is in London, what job she does, or even her name. However, overall, this task isn’t particularly tough. The time limit isn’t all that tight either, so it’s actually a pretty good task."
Mike shook his head, "For a young girl, six years can mean enormous changes. Isn’t there a more recent photo?"
"No, there’s only one photo. We only know that Mihali Kovacek sent his daughter to the United Kingdom, but he’s kept everything else well-hidden. I’m the first to receive this task, which hasn’t been released yet. In the interest of showing good faith, I’m willing to hand over this task to you."
Mike had previously told Yang Yi that they generally wouldn’t take on manhunts, because for a small spy organization, finding one person in a sea of humanity was too difficult.
But this task also served as a litmus test, with Justin using it to assess the mettle of the Organization of Water as an intel organization.
Yang Yi asked, his voice serious, "This task won’t be given to someone else, right?"
Justin began to laugh, "Of course not. This is not an open task. Everything you’ve heard is already classified, so this task can’t be publicly posted on the dark web, even though that would be the best way to find someone."
Yang Yi nodded, "Are we certain Mihali’s daughter is in London? If Mihali Kovacek’s daughter has left the UK a while ago, then I can’t guarantee success."
Justin chuckled, his tone serious, "This is a five million US Dollar task. If the information was so detailed that anyone could do it, it wouldn’t be worth five million."
After considering for a moment, Yang Yi looked at Mike, then nodded, "We’ll take this task."
Justin nodded and smiled, "Please provide me with a consistent way to contact you. The photo will be sent to you later. From the moment you receive the picture, the task will begin. Any other questions?"
Mike replied seriously, "No more questions, thank you."
Justin stood up, shook hands with both Yang Yi and Mike, and said with a smile, "Goodbye, and good luck."
After Justin left, Mike whispered to Yang Yi, "We can take on the task. It’s Justin’s test for us. Overall, your response was fine, but that last question shouldn’t have been asked. An old hand wouldn’t have asked those questions, and you shouldn’t have looked at me."
