Chapter 317: Chapter 316: Can’t Afford to Lose That Person
Kate had an indomitable spirit, and when she pursed her lips, requesting for another round with Yang Yi, Zhang Yong, however, chuckled and said, "No need to go again, you’d still be dead after a few more tries."
Still contemplating her strategy to win back a round, Kate disregarded Zhang Yong’s words and turned to Yang Yi, "Let’s do it again, this time I have a plan."
Brian murmured softly, "No need for another try, if it were a fight to the death, even unarmed, you’d still be no match for him, what you two lack isn’t combat skills."
Paul and Charles were also nodding repeatedly.
Because they shared the same name, Brian always had a bit of partiality for Kate, and Kate respected Brian a lot too. Though still not entirely convinced, she calmed down and after pondering for a moment, she finally nodded and let go of the magazine she was gripping tighter and tighter.
Yang Yi also let go of the magazine he held and then said to Zhang Yong, "Brother Yong, you mean..."
"Mean? I don’t mean anything."
Yang Yi said with a smile, "You just said that if Kate learned some real killing techniques..."
Zhang Yong chuckled, "Exactly, Kate is at a bottleneck right now, her combat skills are already top-notch, get it? No matter how much she practices, it’s just the same. She’d be unbeatable in a boxing ring, but in a real fight to the death, she’d stand no chance against masters like you and me."
Yang Yi nodded repeatedly, "Exactly, so couldn’t you teach her? The Mian Zhang Fist or maybe your Wing Chun, wouldn’t Wing Chun be more suitable for her?"
To Yang Yi, having Kate become even more formidable was all to the good, even though he had no plans to involve Kate in anything particularly dangerous, now that she was a spy, it was better to learn some lethal skills than to be killed.
Yang Yi was eagerly hoping that Zhang Yong would agree to teach Kate, and since Zhang Yong had brought everyone together and said so much, he surely seemed inclined to instruct her.
Right now, Kate was like a beautiful but useless vase, but if she could turn into a super lethal female spy, then things would be different—after all, there were times when sending Kate on a mission was far more convenient than sending Yang Yi himself.
Zhang Yong smiled and said, "Why would I teach her? Don’t make me laugh. Where would I find the time? In jail, I had nothing better to do, so teaching you was fine, but now that I’m out, you want me to take on an apprentice? Forget about it, don’t even think about it, I’m not the teaching type."
Yang Yi was stunned, then said incredulously, "You refuse to teach? Then why did you make such a big fuss?"
Zhang Yong’s face darkened, and he said with disdain, "Nonsense! You’re my disciple, I trained you! It’s a disgrace that a woman beat you till your nose bled. I might be embarrassed for you, but I can’t let them laugh at you, can I?"
Quite a few people’s expressions changed upon hearing Zhang Yong’s words.
But Zhang Yong didn’t care about how others saw him. He slapped his hand and said to everyone, "See now? It’s not that Huaxia martial arts are ineffective, nor is my teaching to blame. If he got his nose bloodied, it’s because he’s a dunce, it’s got nothing to do with me."
After speaking, Zhang Yong glanced at Yang Yi, still with blood on his face, burst into loud laughter again, and then pointed to Yang Yi’s nose, "Take a look in the mirror at your pathetic self, nose busted by a single punch, oh boy, that’s a real embarrassment, hahaha."
Zhang Yong laughed heartily, shaking his head as he turned to go back to his room, while the others just looked at each other in bewilderment.
It was only now they realized that Zhang Yong was actually upset that Yang Yi had embarrassed him as a master, and he had come personally to win back some dignity for Yang Yi. After proving it was not the martial arts that were lacking but Yang Yi’s cowardice, he intended to leave it at that.
How could Yang Yi let Zhang Yong just walk away like that? He called out loudly, "Wait a minute, Brother Yong, don’t go, wait a moment!"
Yang Yi grabbed Zhang Yong, his face showing dissatisfaction, "Don’t be like that. After all, we are going to be brothers who share life and death together in the future. You can’t just stand by and not care, right?"
Zhang Yong waved his hand and said, "If you want to teach her, go ahead. I didn’t say you can’t teach her, but don’t drag me into this troublesome matter. She’s your woman, what does that have to do with me?"
Yang Yi looked at Kate while Brian said angrily, "I’ll teach her!"
Everyone turned to look at Brian, but after he had spoken, his face darkened as he said, "No, it won’t work. Our systems are different. I could only teach her some techniques, which wouldn’t be very meaningful."
Zhang Yong said triumphantly, "Glad you understand. The things you all learn are similar. What more could you teach her? Make her faster? She’s already at her peak. Any more practice would be meaningless."
Yang Yi wanted to say more, but Zhang Yong repeatedly waved his hand and said, "Don’t say anything else. In any case, I’m not teaching. Kate has already been molded. Her movements, combat philosophy, and her awareness are all set. Trying to turn her from a competition-type fighter into a killer like you would be even harder than training a complete beginner like you."
Yang Yi said anxiously, "But even if it’s difficult, she still needs to train."
Zhang Yong smiled and said, "Then you train her. When the time comes that the effect she’s pursuing changes from knocking down an opponent to killing an opponent, and doing so with the greatest speed and least cost, then I can teach her."
Waving his hand again, Zhang Yong said contentedly, "Well, the show is over. There’s nothing more to watch, so I’m going back to sleep."
Zhang Yong swaggered off, and Kate took a deep breath and said softly to Yang Yi, "You teach me!"
What could Yang Yi say? He nodded and replied, "Alright, I’ll teach you."
Mike cleared his throat and said, "It’s over, let’s go back. We still have a lot to do."
No more drama, everyone returned to their own places. Just as Yang Yi was about to leave, Xiao Ran suddenly said, "Wait a moment!"
Yang Yi stopped and turned his head to look at Xiao Ran.
Since reuniting with Kate, Xiao Ran’s attitude toward Yang Yi had changed. Although she no longer avoided him, she no longer showed the same closeness they had before.
Now, calling Yang Yi over was the first time Xiao Ran had done so since Kate’s appearance.
Yang Yi turned back and asked, "What is it?"
Xiao Ran looked at Yang Yi’s nose and said, "I want to get rid of my blood phobia. You still have blood on your nose. Don’t waste it; let me look at it for a while."
Yang Yi was both annoyed and amused, while Kate, upon hearing Xiao Ran’s words, didn’t leave either. She just stayed there, quietly staring at Yang Yi.
The atmosphere was indescribably weird when the three of them were together. Yang Yi felt the hairs on his body stand on end. Xiao Ran glanced at Yang Yi, then cast a sidelong glance at Kate, and with a look of disgust, waved her hand and said, "Forget it, just go. Ew, that’s really disgusting."
