Chapter 309: Chapter 308: Perhaps It’s an Opportunity
The Organization of Water’s first operation was perfect, but not everyone was equally pleased.
At least Boer felt extremely depressed; going from a billionaire to a clueless pauper was bad enough, but he had also found himself involuntarily aboard a ship of thieves.
By now, even if Boer wanted to abandon his quest for revenge and just live out the rest of his life quietly, it was impossible.
Boer appeared very despondent, and Yang Yi noticed Boer’s dejection, but he couldn’t just let Boer leave now—because Boer knew too much, which was a troubling issue for both of them.
As for Schultz, going from a hacker under social supervision to suddenly mixing with a bunch of ruthless killers didn’t make Schultz particularly afraid, because that’s what he thought spies were like anyway.
Mike started to hide away to make phone calls by himself; he was preparing for the whole Organization of Water to withdraw from London. Perhaps he would utilize his spy contacts from before, or maybe he could get the Organization of Water to London through normal channels, but either way, Yang Yi couldn’t help with this matter.
Now Yang Yi was studying the filaments he had obtained from Bass.
A device similar to a wrist guard was strapped to Bass’s left arm; the wrist guard was only three centimeters wide, made of leather, with decorative-looking carbon fiber rods, about three meters long filaments were stored inside the wrist guard; because the filaments were so thin, there was no problem in storing them in the thin genuine leather wrist guard.
There were six filaments on the wrist guard in total, three of them had been pulled out and used, but the remaining three were enough for Yang Yi to study.
The filament was made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, which is an important material for making bulletproof vests and performs even better than Kevlar—virtually inelastic and extremely strong. Just a few strands couldn’t be broken by human hands.
The filaments stored inside Bass’s wrist guard varied in thickness, with the thickest being about one millimeter in diameter, and that thickness was enough for Yang Yi to hang himself up and swing without it breaking.
"This is good stuff."
Yang Yi couldn’t help but praise as he felt that the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber was really useful, better than steel wire for strangling, and also great for setting traps.
What was most important was that this ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber would never be detected by any scanners, so traveling with it on a plane was a breeze, and that was the most useful feature to Yang Yi.
Holding a filament in both hands, Yang Yi mimicked wrapping it around his neck and nodded, "I should also get myself a set of this. It shouldn’t be difficult to buy, and I’m sure I could develop even more clever uses for it."
Zhang Yong asked for the filament from Yang Yi’s hands; after inspecting it, he said, "There’s another use."
Zhang Yong looked around, then he picked up a coffee cup, tied a knot with the filament around the handle, and started to swing the cup around.
Yang Yi laughed and asked, "What are you doing, juggling?"
Zhang Yong chuckled, and then with a flick and a push of his hand, the cup whooshed towards Yang Yi’s face.
The cup was yanked back just as it was about to hit Yang Yi’s face, then Zhang Yong used the momentum to flick the cup again, changing its direction and smashing it towards Boer’s face.
Boer was just a split second too slow, By the time he jumped at the sight of the cup in front of him, Zhang Yong had already snatched the cup back, shaking his hands a few times before abruptly reclaiming it.
Zhang Yong looked at Yang Yi with a cocky expression, "What can be done? Tie something to it and it becomes a rope dart!"
Yang Yi was stunned for a moment, then immediately said, "Damn, teach me!"
Zhang Yong threw the cup on the table and said with a grin, "Sure, practice for two years and you might be decent, fluttering about impressively. But if you really want to turn the rope dart into a lethal weapon, it’ll take at least four or five years."
Yang Yi felt a little deflated. The rope dart was different from knives and swords. It had taken him three years to become proficient with a knife, but to master the rope dart might mean just beginning to get the hang of it in three years. It’s one thing to practice until it looks good, but quite another to use it as a true weapon.
But difficult or not, Yang Yi wanted to learn.
"Don’t worry about how many years it takes, this thing is useful. I don’t have a long-range weapon, with this skill I can make do with whatever’s around," he said.
Zhang Yong smiled and replied, "Fine, I’ll teach you when I have time."
Just then, the bathroom door opened, and Brian stepped out.
Yang Yi had been waiting for the results of Brian’s interrogation and quickly asked, "How did it go?"
Brian spoke gravely, "The first round of interrogation is over. Now it’s time for repeated questioning to verify the truth, but so far, the testimony seems very credible."
Exhausted, Brian sat down on the sofa, gave Kate a glance, and then spoke softly, "Let’s start with the thing you’re most concerned about, he’s one of Destroyer’s men, allied with Bass."
Yang Yi heaved a sigh, while Kate clenched her fists and whispered in a low voice, "One of Destroyer’s men."
Brian nodded, "He joined Destroyer two years ago and knows some things about Bass. Let me put it simply, three years ago, Destroyer suffered a severe blow, Bass was left all alone, but Bass is a very practical man. He wouldn’t risk everything out of hatred, so in reality, he has already given up on killing Kate, because she is under the protection of Dark Night Knight."
Kate bit her lip and murmured softly, "Given up..."
Brain nodded, "Yes, Bass gave up on killing you. But he wants to rebuild Destroyer, so he couldn’t just quit as a loser. He recruited people, strived to take on jobs, and spent three years rebuilding Destroyer. Including himself, they are seven in total, but those in London are just minor players he hired for five thousand British Pounds a month. Watching over you was secondary; the main purpose was to make a statement, and this aligns with our deduction."
Yang Yi whispered, "As expected."
Brian spoke sternly, "Bass was able to kill his three associates without hesitation in an adverse situation. What do you think, would a man like that seek revenge? If there’s a suitable opportunity, of course, Bass would kill you and Kate, but if not, or if the cost is too high, then he wouldn’t."
Waving his hand, Brian said indifferently, "As for why Destroyer is at the Fearless Club, it’s because Bass has collaborated with them. The Fearless Group has taken on a very big task, but they were short-handed, so they sought out Destroyer for cooperation. You already know this task; Deyo Mather is looking to take down Big Ivan. The two biggest arms dealers are at war, the underworld is about to face a world war, and perhaps, this is an opportunity for us."
