Chapter 262: Chapter 261 The Drunkard
Yang Yi didn’t know how to answer Zhang Yong’s question because he felt Zhang Yong should have known he had already broken out of prison.
As expected, Zhang Yong gently slapped his forehead and laughed, "I forgot. It was quite a sensation back then. Why did it take you so long to find me?"
Just as Yang Yi was about to speak, Zhang Yong picked up some chips and pushed them forward, saying, "Raise!"
It was only then that Yang Yi noticed all the chips in front of Zhang Yong were in denominations of five and ten, with hardly any hundreds. It seemed he must have lost miserably, and from Zhang Yong’s appearance, he must have had quite a bit to drink.
Yang Yi gently nudged Zhang Yong and whispered, "Have you been drinking?"
"Ah, yeah, I had some Maotai, almost a bottle. Did you know it’s quite cheap here?"
Still as good at changing the subject as ever, Zhang Yong, somewhat impatiently, waved his hand and said, "Don’t talk now. Can’t you see I’m busy? I’ll treat you to some drinks tomorrow, to Maotai."
Yang Yi grabbed Zhang Yong by the arm and said in a low voice, "Brother Yong, someone’s trying to kill me!"
Zhang Yong, still in a daze, turned his head back to look at Yang Yi and said, "Someone’s trying to kill you? Motherfucker! Let’s deal with him!"
"Yeah, so come with me," whispered Yang Yi.
Zhang Yong shook his head repeatedly and said, "I’m not going. Can’t you handle it yourself?"
Curious and amused, Yang Yi said, "Brother Yong, you promised to help me when I got out. How come you’re backing out now?"
Zhang Yong once again waved his hand away and said, "Why are you so annoying? Let me tell you, I’m not going anywhere now. I’ve retired from the underworld, you know. Retired, washed my hands of this life, no more interest, I quit!"
The conversation between Yang Yi and Zhang Yong had already irritated the other gamblers, and the croupier finally couldn’t help but say softly, "Sir, please do not disturb the other players."
Zhang Yong, showing his impatience, waved and said, "Go, go."
Feeling somewhat helpless, Yang Yi hadn’t yet spoken when he saw Zhang Yong push all his chips forward and loudly declare, "I’m ALL IN."
The croupier took Zhang Yong’s chips, counted the amount, and only one other player decided to go ALL IN as well,
Yang Yi decided to wait until Zhang Yong finished this hand. If this hand went unfinished, Zhang Yong wouldn’t be going anywhere regardless.
Seeing his opponent go ALL IN, Zhang Yong was ecstatic, flipping over his hole cards and looking provocatively at his opponent.
Zhang Yong’s opponent revealed their hand, holding a full house, while Zhang Yong had only a two-pair.
Yang Yi had no idea where Zhang Yong got the courage to go ALL IN with a two-pair. Unsurprisingly, he lost everything in one fell swoop.
Looking at his opponent’s cards, Zhang Yong was stunned for a while, then immediately turned to Yang Yi and asked, "When did you get out?"
Yang Yi sighed. Zhang Yong again patted his forehead and said, "Oh, right. You’ve been out for a while."
Once more the croupier interjected, "Sir..."
Zhang Yong stretched out his hand towards the croupier and said, "Okay, o...k, I’m leaving!"
Zhang Yong stood up and wobbled a bit. Yang Yi quickly steadied Zhang Yong, who still had a nonchalant face and said, "Why are you holding me? You think I’ve had too much? What’s a bottle to me?"
Staggering alongside Yang Yi, Zhang Yong took a deep breath and said, "What did you say just now? Someone wants to kill you? Who is it? I’ll go fuck them up."
In a low voice, Yang Yi said, "Let’s not talk now, we need to get going quickly!"
With a curious expression, Zhang Yong asked, "Are they coming? Why else would you be so anxious?"
Yang Yi couldn’t help saying, "It’s really possible they’re coming after us, not just one person but a whole gang of people. I’m in big trouble this time! Brother Yong, you have to help me, otherwise I might really end up dead here, but are you really planning to wash your hands of all this?"
Zhang Yong waved his hand dismissively and said, "Wash my hands of it? What’s there to wash?"
"Come on! You just said you were out of the game!"
"That was then, then I had money. Didn’t you see I just lost everything? Sigh, Danny, what you taught me didn’t work at all."
Yang Yi said in frustration, "No kidding! With the way you were playing, any amount would’ve been lost. How much did you lose exactly?"
"Ah, not much, just over three million."
"Come on! That’s ’not much’? Have you lost your mind?"
Zhang Yong laughed heartily and said, "I’ve lost all my savings, and now I don’t have a single cent left in my pocket, but it’s okay, I’m a VIP here now, I can sign for things. I lost so much, we can eat and stay for free for a few days before we leave."
Zhang Yong was truly drunk.
Yang Yi felt helpless seeing Zhang Yong’s drunken state and wondered what they would do if they encountered killers, so he really began to consider whether he should take Zhang Yong with him; he couldn’t afford to let Zhang Yong risk his life with them.
As the two walked on, Zhang Yong suddenly asked, "How did you find me?"
"Well, I used a little trick."
Zhang Yong said impatiently, "Stop talking nonsense. Just tell me, do you have money now or not?"
"I do, a little. What’s up?"
"I’ll work for you, but friendship is friendship, I can’t be short on money."
"No problem!"
"Then how much are you planning to pay me? My services aren’t cheap, and I don’t know what you spies are supposed to do, but just pay me like a mercenary. I don’t want a fixed salary, I want a share of the profits. Wait, how do you spies usually do it?"
Yang Yi said urgently, "Let’s not talk about that now. I also don’t know how the profits are split. Just tell me the highest standard for a mercenary’s salary."
Zhang Yong raised a finger and drew out his words, "If I’m coming out of retirement, at least this much a year, one... million!"
"A yearly salary of one million?"
"Exactly! Bro, I’ll give you a discount, eight hundred thousand... a year. How’s that for a deal?"
Yang Yi nodded immediately and then whispered, "I have a hundred million US dollar deal on my hands right now. Help me clinch it, and I’ll cut you five million, how about that?"
Zhang Yong looked at Yang Yi askance and said weirdly, "I say, Danny, you’re pretty ruthless, aren’t you? A hundred million and you’re only giving me five million?"
Yang Yi said urgently, "It’s not a small amount! You think I’m the only one in on this? Let me tell you, I’ve now formed an organization, there are a lot of places where the money’s needed, and there are a lot of people involved too. This money will be spent in no time, it’s not going into my pocket."
Zhang Yong smacked his lips and said, "You move fast, pulling together a group just like that. Alright, five million isn’t too little. I’ve only saved a little over three million all these years. So, I’ll do it, but let’s make this clear, I’m looking for a long-term meal ticket this time. Whatever deal we have is separate, but you can’t skimp on my one million yearly salary."
"Sure! Sure! You were just talking about eight hundred thousand, and now you’ve forgotten that, no worries, bro, I’ll give you the one million salary, alright?"
"Uh, I forgot about the discount I gave you, so that’s eight hundred thousand. Hey, look at you. If you really can’t afford the salary, it’s not like I’d twist your arm over it, we’ll figure it out when the time comes."
Zhang Yong stumbled along, nearly reaching the casino’s main entrance. Yang Yi sighed and whispered, "Forget it, you better go back to your room and rest for now. We’ll talk after you sober up."
