Chapter 198: Chapter 197 Safe House

The police didn’t check Yang Yi’s trunk after all.

The reason why Yang Yi dared to throw a living person in the trunk amidst the heavy police blockade was because he was certain that the police would not inspect his trunk.

This was a sudden crisis. The identities of Brian and the other two men were clear: three white men armed and extremely dangerous. The police had to establish a blockade and conduct searches as quickly as possible, and they also needed to evacuate civilians. They didn’t have the time to check the trunk of every car.

Of course, Yang Yi couldn’t be sure that the police wouldn’t inspect his trunk, but how could one be completely certain of anything? As long as he felt there was a possibility of success, and the odds weren’t too low, that was good enough.

This time, Yang Yi’s judgment was correct. The police really just glanced and let him leave, because three people couldn’t hide in that trunk.

After driving out of the parking lot, Yang Yi could still see a large number of police cars arriving, but all of that had nothing to do with him. He made way for the police cars and then drove onto the main road at a fast clip.

It was only after he had driven far away that Yang Yi felt his palms were full of sweat; his actions had been too risky. Yang Yi was definitely nervous, but the potential gain from this risk was significant, otherwise, he wouldn’t have taken such a gamble.

Brian wasn’t being pursued by the CIA; instead, he was ambushed by a group of mercenaries. If Yang Yi could get the man in the trunk to reveal who was behind all this, it was highly possible that the mole who had set up Brian would be found.

So, this matter was actually unrelated to Yang Yi, but he still did it for Brian, since he happened to come across this opportunity.

Now, the only problem that remained was whether Brian and the others could escape.

Without receiving a phone call, Yang Yi didn’t know where to go, so he drove aimlessly for a while, bought some rope and duct tape at a hardware store, then used the navigation to drive out of the city and stopped in a secluded place.

Yang Yi was very confident in his methods. The person in the trunk wouldn’t wake up within two hours, and it was possible they would be out for several hours, especially since a blow to the back of the neck could easily be fatal.

After stopping the car, Yang Yi opened the trunk to check on his captive, then used duct tape to wrap around the man’s mouth and securely tied his hands and feet with rope.

After doing all this, Yang Yi returned to the car, and all that was left was to wait.

The night had already fallen, and as time ticked by slowly, two hours passed, then four hours. It wasn’t until two in the morning that Yang Yi began to think that Brian and the others hadn’t made it out when his cell phone suddenly rang.

"Come find us, but be careful."

Brian calmly stated an address, and Yang Yi immediately hung up the phone, flailing his arms in the air with excitement before starting the car.

Los Angeles is a very large urban area, and Yang Yi was far from where Brian and the others were. He didn’t go directly to the location Brian mentioned. When he was still some distance away, he called Brian.

"I’m in the car, but I can’t drive it straight there. Can you pick me up?"

Brian spoke in a low voice, "What’s the situation?"

"I’ve stolen this car, and there’s someone in it. I can’t drive too close."

"Understood. Charles will pick you up. Drive to the location I mentioned, and Charles will be there waiting for you."

After clearly stating the location, Yang Yi hurried over. When he arrived, Charles Miller was indeed already waiting there.

Seeing Charles’s car, Yang Yi drove up beside it, then he whispered, "There aren’t any cameras here, right?"

"Definitely not."

"That’s good, come down and help me move someone."

Yang Yi got out of the car, tossed his stuff into the car driven by Charles, and only after checking that no one was around, did he open the trunk.

Looking at the man thrown into the trunk, Charles frowned and asked, "Why did you bring someone with you? Who is he?"

"There’s no time to explain, just throw him in, and we’ll talk on the way."

With Charles’s help, they moved the man to another car, and once they were on the move, Yang Yi spoke in a low voice, "The guy in the car has a rather interesting background. I overheard his phone call—he’s looking for you guys, seems to be somewhat related to the mercenaries who were instructed to ambush us."

Charles immediately perked up, looking at Yang Yi in surprise, he asked, "Are you sure?"

"Of course I’m sure. How did you guys get out?"

Charles said urgently, "No, that question is no longer important. What I need to know now is what value this guy has."

After Yang Yi recounted what he had heard, Charles became even more excited.

"This is a very valuable tongue, excellent, we might be able to unravel a longstanding mystery because of this. You did a great job, thank you. It’s rare that you could do this under the circumstances. Let me introduce myself, my name is Charles Miller, and I’m pleased to meet you."

Yang Yi and Charles shook hands, but Charles stopped talking after that.

They drove into a high-profile neighborhood, to be precise, it was a real villa area—the kind where most spaces are green belts and big trees, and where the houses are far apart from one another, located next to a lake, with very nice and quiet surroundings.

Charles drove the car into the garage, then he and Yang Yi carried the man out, going straight into the house from the garage.

When Yang Yi and Charles carried the man into the house, Paul was sitting shirtless in a chair in the dining room, while Brian was stitching up a wound on Paul’s waist with needle and thread.

"Why did you bring someone with you?"

Brian casually asked Yang Yi, then continued stitching, while Paul grimaced and watched Yang Yi, not making a sound.

Charles said in a deep voice, "Boss, this man is valuable. He might know who those mercenaries were."

Brian looked up in surprise, then nodded, "Good, very good. Where’s a good place to put him?"

"The bathroom, it’s easier to clean up."

After that comment, Charles said to Yang Yi, "Come with me."

The two placed the captive Yang Yi had caught into the bathtub, then Charles stopped worrying about the man and led Yang Yi back to the dining room.

Yang Yi and Charles only had to wait a moment before Brian finished stitching up Paul, then set the supplies on the nearby dining table and got up to wash the blood off his hands at the sink.

Paul, gritting his teeth in pain, said, "Finally done, it hurt like hell. Get me a drink, I’m going to sleep!"

Charles poured a drink for Paul, while Brian wiped his hands with a towel and said, "Paul, go get some rest. Charles, take our little brother here to see your handiwork. I’m going to interrogate the guy you brought. Hopefully, we’ll make some gains."
