Chapter 197: Chapter 196: Please Enter the Car

Why did Yang Yi leave the mall only to return to the parking lot? Because ultimately he wasn’t satisfied just with his own escape. Since he intended to act as a safety valve, and now that he had a car, of course he had to go back to the parking lot and drive it. That way, he might be able to save Brian and the others at a critical moment.

Of course, the likelihood that he could get in the car and then pick up Brian and the others was very slim, but as long as there was a possibility, Yang Yi was determined to be prepared.

Yang Yi took the elevator to the second floor. He exited the elevator and began walking towards the parking spot of the middle-aged man.

Yang Yi had only walked a few steps when he heard the sound of hurried footsteps coming from the emergency stairwell; someone was running up to the second floor.

Putting the car keys back into his pocket, Yang Yi crouched down next to the car. He worried that the person running towards him was either the man he had stolen the car keys from or possibly the police. If it were the police, it would be easier to handle, but if it was the person who had lost their keys, then he wouldn’t be able to drive the car.

Soon, Yang Yi realized that the approaching person was neither a police officer nor the key loser, but a man with a vigilant face and a gun in his hand. Although the gun was hidden under his coat, his expression clearly showed he was looking for someone.

"I’ve arrived, but the target has disappeared in the parking lot. They shouldn’t have gone far, but the operation is a complete failure. Yes, sir, yes, I understand."

The man who had come up was also making a call. Although he kept his voice very low, Yang Yi could still vaguely hear him.

Sir could mean mister, teacher, or perhaps a superior officer, or it could have other meanings, like boss.

Even though it was just a title, the implications were significant. Yang Yi sighed silently to himself, thinking how he always seemed to stumble upon such situations.

Whether to be meddlesome or to follow the principle that less is more, these two choices were now in Yang Yi’s mind.

Quickly, Yang Yi made his decision.

Yang Yi took out his phone and dialed 911. Waiting for the prompt after the call connected, he then began to speak in a low, urgent voice.

"Hello, is this the police station? Can you hear me? Hello! Hello! I’m in the parking lot of Westgrove Mall and I see three people with guns. Hello, can you hear me? The signal isn’t very good here, hello, hello? Fuck! Hello..."

Yang Yi was crouched beside the car making the call, and as he was anxiously speaking quietly, he suddenly saw a man dressed in casual clothes appear in front of him.

Yang Yi was stunned, feeling as if his soul had fled; he looked in shock at the middle-aged man who had appeared out of nowhere, and his phone clattered to the ground.

"Don’t kill me, I’m sorry, please don’t kill me..."

Yang Yi’s lips trembled violently, and he couldn’t speak clearly.

The man standing in front of Yang Yi looked at him, tucked away the gun that had been pointing at Yang Yi, picked up the phone that had fallen on the ground, listened briefly, then hung up the call, and said in a low voice to Yang Yi, "Don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you. Tell me what you saw."

Yang Yi was making an emergency call; he really had dialed the police. After seeing the dialed number and hearing what the dispatch officer was saying on the phone, the man decided to hang up the call.

Yang Yi stammered out, "Are you a police officer?"

The man grew impatient and said, "FBI, tell me what you saw, was it three people with guns, all older in age?"

Yang Yi nodded repeatedly, then he suddenly waved at the man in front of him and urgently whispered in a low voice, "Get down! Quick, get down! They’re nearby, do you have a death wish? Quick, get down!"

After feeling that Yang Yi posed no danger, the man’s eyes had left Yang Yi and were scouting around, but upon hearing Yang Yi’s fearful and urgent call, he immediately knelt on one knee and whispered to Yang Yi, "Where are they?"

Yang Yi hesitated for a moment, then turned around and slowly moved to the side of the trunk, peeked out from the rear of the car, and then turned back to whisper to the middle-aged man right behind him, "See that pickup? That’s where they disappeared. I saw it clearly from the car, I think they’re hiding under the vehicle."

The middle-aged man’s expression turned serious, he gestured for Yang Yi to step back, then moved to the rear and slowly stuck out his head to observe.

Yang Yi let out a light breath, then raised his right hand and struck heavily with the edge of his palm on the back of the man’s head, who was still observing.

Without even a grunt, the middle-aged man collapsed onto the ground, thoroughly knocked out.

He checked the man’s carotid artery, then carefully took the loaded handgun from the unconscious man’s hand. Yang Yi used the keys to open the trunk, looked around to make sure no one was watching, and then quickly picked up the middle-aged man and threw him into the trunk.

After tossing the man into the trunk, Yang Yi began searching him, taking out a cellphone, two magazines, some cash, and after realizing the man was also wearing a bulletproof vest underneath his jacket, Yang Yi found nothing else of importance.

Having closed the trunk, Yang Yi got into the car, adjusted the seat and rearview mirror, started the car, and then slowly drove away from the parking spot.

Just then, Yang Yi’s phone rang. He picked up and after answering, he heard a woman’s voice say in a low voice, "Hello, sir, are you in danger?"

Yang Yi spoke in a low voice, "Yes! I’m in the parking lot of the Westcastle Mall. I just saw three people drive into the parking lot with guns! Big guns! Rifles, and they ran off after getting out of their vehicle. I suspect they’re terrorists, please send the police immediately, I swear I’m telling the truth. The signal here isn’t great, can you hear me?"

"Yes, I can hear you, sir. We have already received an emergency call and are aware of the situation. My colleagues are on their way and have secured the area, but you’re in great danger right now. Please leave the area as quickly as possible, follow police instructions for orderly evacuation, and if you cannot leave, find a hidden and safe place to hide. Do you understand?"

"I understand, I’m going to hang up now and go hide."

Yang Yi hung up the phone, then he continued to drive slowly down, from the second floor to the first, and then towards the exit from the first floor.

The police had already blocked the entrance to the parking lot. At least a dozen officers were gathered around Brian’s abandoned car, and Yang Yi could see an exit. The parking lot exit was filled with police officers as well, but there were no roadblocks, and the gate wasn’t down.

As Yang Yi looked in surprise at the beat-up car left by Brian and the officers, one of the officers was desperately gesturing at him. When Yang Yi, puzzled, rolled down his window, the officer took a quick glance at the backseat of Yang Yi’s car and urgently said, "Get out of here right now! Leave through the nearest exit, quick!"

Yang Yi, in a panic, nodded and then stepped on the gas, speeding to the parking lot exit. The officers at the exit just looked inside the car and then yelled, "Did you spot anyone strange?"

Yang Yi shook his head and said, "I didn’t see anything, what’s going on, officer?"

The officer did not answer Yang Yi’s question, he simply waved his hand and shouted, "Leave immediately, quick!"
