Chapter 177: Chapter 176 Search and Seize
Chris looked somewhat scared, which was no surprise. He was a con artist, and although he had spent a few years improving his skills in Pelican Bay Prison, watching Brian silently kill so many people was more than he could calmly handle. If he could have remained unfazed, he would have been more than just a con artist.
Chris stumbled out, and soon he hastily called Hank and Gweil back.
Seeing the bodies all over the floor, Hank turned pale, but Gweil still appeared indifferent.
Yang Yi casually gestured and said, "Look for where the money is; this shouldn’t be a problem for you."
Hank sniffed a few times, shook his head, then sniffed a few more times before heading straight into a bedroom.
Once inside the bedroom, Hank looked around, walked over to a wardrobe, opened it, and revealed a safe behind it.
Hank didn’t take any extra steps—it was as if he knew exactly where the safe was all along.
Yang Yizhen was thoroughly impressed, so impressed he couldn’t be more in awe.
Not just Yang Yi, even Brian was visibly shocked, while Chris was dumbfounded and asked, "Did you smell it out?"
Hank proudly bragged, "I could smell the scent of currency from a mile away."
Yang Yi asked in surprise, "You really smelled it out? That’s impossible!"
Hank waved his hand dismissively and said, "It’s just a metaphor, you know? A metaphor. Places where money can be hidden in this kind of place... This is the valuable experience of a top-notch professional thief; intuition, you get what I mean? Intuition."
Hank bent down to inspect the not-so-large safe, then immediately smiled, "Jackpot, this safe might as well be non-existent for me. Cracking this kind of cheap stuff is too easy. But for sure, there’s an even simpler way."
Hank stood up and then loudly asked, "Who is the boss?"
Chris pointed to the person who had fallen behind the sofa and said, "It’s him."
Hank walked over to the corpse, frowned, and said, "This is the first time I’m searching for keys on a body, but it’ll save some time, and yes, this is it!"
Hank pulled a set of keys out of the drug dealer’s boss’s pocket, then easily selected one and walked back to the safe. He inserted the key, turned it, and then declared loudly, "This is a dual-lock safe, with both a key and a combination. Now, be quiet, I’m about to get to work."
Hank pressed his ear against the safe and started slowly turning the dial back and forth. After a few turns, Hank lifted his head and smiled, "It’s that simple."
With a twist of the key, Hank opened the safe.
Chris let out a cheer, and Hank peered inside the safe, saying, "Looks like a decent haul, guys."
There was a stack of money and a handgun inside the safe. Yang Yi walked over, took out the money, and started neatly placing each stack on top of the safe.
"This is sixty thousand US dollars, plus some Mexican pesos, about two hundred thousand, which totals up to approximately seventy thousand US dollars."
The money was stacked, and they didn’t bother counting the loose cash. Yang Yi put the US dollars into a bag and then addressed Hank, "You three take care of these pesos. There should be some money on the bodies too. Search quickly; we need to leave here pronto."
Brian said in a deep voice, "Don’t forget to take the guns and ammunition. It’s time to throw away the guns we brought from the United States."
Several people immediately began to search separately, and soon, Chris cheered. He ran out of a restroom with a bag filled with white powder, shouting loudly, "Caffeine! There’s more inside!"
Chris ran back in, then shouted from the restroom, "Boss, look here, there’s at least several hundred thousand US dollars’ worth of caffeine!"
Brian walked in, opened a bag, scooped up a little of the white powder with his finger, tasted it, and nodded, "It’s not top quality stuff, but it’s not bad. I don’t know the current market price for caffeine, but this batch is indeed worth quite a bit."
Yang Yi looked it over, then gestured with his hand and said, "Pour it into the toilet and flush it away, and make it quick."
Upon hearing Yang Yi’s words, Brian said nothing and directly poured the white powder from the bag into the toilet while Chris was dumbfounded and said, "Why pour it away? It’s worth several hundred thousand US dollars..."
Gweil also nodded and said, "Such a waste..."
Yang Yi said coldly, "I can kill drug dealers without any hesitation because, in my eyes, drug dealers have no human rights. A dead drug dealer is a good drug dealer. As for stuff that harms people, of course it should be destroyed. There’s nothing to discuss. I won’t stoop to drug trafficking even if I fall into decay, and none of you can either. That’s my principle."
Chris’s face showed reluctance, but he still picked up a bag, cut it open, and started pouring the caffeine into the toilet.
There was too much caffeine, they had to flush the toilet after dumping two bags, so Chris was too busy to do anything else.
Brian looked at Yang Yi and said in a solemn voice, "There’s a lot of caffeine here, more than a small gang could possess, which means this is a distribution point for a major gang."
Yang Yi nodded and said in a low voice, "I’ve noticed that, so we need to leave this place quickly, Hank."
"Boss."
Yang Yi said in a solemn voice, "There are cameras at the entrance. Look for where the footage from the cameras is stored. It would be best to find and erase the footage. If what’s been captured by the cameras can be seen elsewhere, then we’re in trouble."
Hank nodded and said, "I’ll go look right away."
Hank started searching for the computer that stored the footage recorded by the cameras, but Brian walked out. He took the pistol that Yang Yi didn’t want from the safe, looked at it, and nodded, "Now this is a weapon a man should use. Not bad."
It was an M1911 pistol, but not the common black one; this one was shiny.
Brian grabbed two magazines and a slow box of bullets from the safe. After throwing the magazines and bullets into a bag, he tucked the pistol into his waistband.
Hank soon called out loudly, "Boss, good news, the cameras did record us, but there’s no other receiving terminal, so no one will know we’ve been here."
Yang Yi whistled and said, "All right, take everything we need to take, and let’s get out of here."
Everyone took what they needed to take, with Brian still in the lead. He looked around after stepping out the door, then tilted his head and said in a low voice, "No one’s here, let’s go."
The streetlamps in the alley had long been broken, which conveniently aided Yang Yi and his group as they quickly disappeared into the darkness.
