Chapter 159: Chapter 158: Three Kills
Chris indeed lived up to his reputation as a master con artist, his ability to read people and situations was exceptional. He provided divine assistance in his approach, impressive.
Although I still don’t know what use Chris could be put to immediately after getting out, a super con artist skilled at both understanding people and swaying their hearts is definitely a talent.
Yang Yi reached out and patted Chris on the shoulder, then with a face full of emotion, he said, "Stand up, there’s no need for this."
After Chris stood up, Yang Yi said quite seriously, "I’ll get you out of here, and I will give you a new identity. Just bear with it for now. When you have the necessary qualifications, you’ll go and take back your girlfriend and child, that’s my promise to you."
Chris’s face was filled with gratitude, he looked like he was about to cry as he nodded repeatedly to Yang Yi, "Thank you, thank you!"
Rodriguez watched enviously, unable to help himself, he said, "Boss, can you change my fate too?"
Yang Yi looked at Rodriguez and smirked, "How would you like it to be?"
Rodriguez thought for a moment, then with a confused expression said, "I don’t know, but I don’t want to steal or rob anymore, nor do I want to always be someone’s underling, um, boss, I don’t mean it that way, I’m still willing to follow you, yeah, I just want to have lots of money, a lot of underlings at my command, and loads of beauties, big houses, luxury cars, that’s about it, yeah, that’s it!"
Yang Yi chuckled, "There will be a day like that, you’ll see."
Gweil suddenly said, "I just want my own lab, and to be free from people bossing me around."
Hank just smiled and said nothing, while Hamer spoke softly, "I just want to leave this place. If I could return to my previous life, that would be perfect..."
Hank still said nothing, just smiled.
Yang Yi also just smiled.
The conversation continued until the end of the exercise period.
The inmates all began to head back in twos and threes, no one liked returning to their cells, so everyone moved slowly.
A few of them lined up, and Yang Yi casually asked Chris, "I didn’t ask you before, which cell are you in, who’s your cellmate?"
Chris was about to speak when Yang Yi noticed the footsteps behind him were a bit off—too fast and too urgent.
Yang Yi quickly turned to look and saw someone had already reached behind him.
Yang Yi was followed by three inmates, two of whom held their hands behind their backs.
Something was amiss, and without a second thought, Yang Yi was ready to make a move, but the person who had closed in to less than two meters behind him suddenly flung their hand up, sending a large cloud of white powder straight toward Yang Yi’s face.
A cloud of dust immediately blinded Yang Yi, who instinctively closed his eyes, then immediately leapt backward, all the while shouting out loud.
He felt a chill on his stomach, followed by a sharp pain, but the quick retreat step that he took had saved his life.
Yang Yi stepped back and promptly opened his eyes, the substance that had blinded him wasn’t lime, which couldn’t be found in prison, but probably something like flour, so upon opening his eyes, his vision wasn’t greatly affected.
Rodriguez let out an angry roar and immediately swung his fist at the nearest inmate, and after a moment’s hesitation, Chris and Hank also threw their fists at the closest person to them.
Rodriguez raised his fists to protect Yang Yi, but then he was immediately confronted, and his abdomen was punctured twice with a knife.
Rodriguez let out another roar and clung on to the inmate in front of him.
Yang Yi subconsciously touched his stomach and then his hand came away covered in blood, but he neither hesitated nor flinched at that moment.
Another prisoner crossed the one held by Rodriguez, holding a makeshift knife and, teeth clenched, stabbed toward Yang Yi.
Yang Yi deflected with his left hand and sliced the opponent’s knife-holding right hand with his right, then twisted fiercely, scooping up the prisoner’s dropped knife with his left hand and slashing it across his opponent’s throat in a single motion.
Silent and still, the prisoner seized by Yang Yi sported a line of blood across his neck, then blood violently spurted out.
Yang Yi’s cut had completely severed his opponent’s throat and carotid artery, he showed no mercy.
Chris kicked out but fell to the ground, and Hank was better than Chris at fighting. He also drew a knife, but the prisoner entangled by him and Chris took a step back, brandishing his knife to keep Hank at bay.
Yang Yi swept past Rodriguez and, as he did, his knife swiftly slit the throat of the man Rodriguez was holding.
Still the neck—the blade pierced in, then violently ripped open. The man who first stabbed Yang Yi and then Rodriguez but was held by Rodriguez had half his neck cut through.
Then Yang Yi collapsed in front of the prisoner still confronting Hank.
Yang Yi ducked down and sliced across the third prisoner’s thigh, then rose, pushing away the stabbing arm with his left hand, and with the knife now in his right hand, he slashed fiercely across the prisoner’s arm, severing his tendons and blood vessels, followed by a punch from his free left hand to the prisoner’s stomach.
Yang Yi’s counterattack was swift and deadly. In less than a second, three prisoners who had suddenly made their move were two dead, one injured.
After knocking down the last prisoner, Yang Yi crouched down and placed the knife at the prisoner’s nose, whispering, "Why do you want to kill me, speak!"
Yang Yi knew these three prisoners. Although they weren’t close, he had been in this prison for over two years and recognized many inmates. These three had no past grudges with him, so there must be a reason for their sudden desire to kill him.
This definitely wasn’t a fight; those three prisoners really wanted Yang Yi dead.
There is no love without reason, nor is there hate without cause, so Yang Yi had to find out who was behind his murder attempt, and why.
The prisoner Yang Yi had knocked to the ground looked incredulous, his eyes fixating on the knife in front of him, yet he only managed to scream.
"Help! Guards, help!"
Yang Yi’s response was swift—another slice across the shouting prisoner’s chest, then he angrily demanded, "You’ve got five seconds before the guards save you—don’t speak and you’ll never speak again, five, four!"
"I’ll talk, someone put a ten thousand US Dollar bounty on your life!"
Yang Yi was momentarily stunned, then he bellowed, "Who is it! Say it fast!"
"I don’t know!"
Without hesitation, Yang Yi cut again, leaving a second, intersecting wound across the prisoner’s chest.
"South Korean! It’s the South Korean who wants you dead, he insists you must die in prison, it was Jorge who brokered the deal! It was Jorge!"
Just then, the prison guards yelled, "Drop the weapon! Put your hands on your head, or I’ll shoot!"
The warning was followed by a gunshot, but it was a rubber bullet. If Yang Yi refused to drop the knife, the next shots would be live rounds.
