Chapter 154: Chapter 153: Must Change

Gweil smoothly sat down next to Yang Yi, and although Hamer Phil hesitated a bit, he still quickly followed by sitting beside Gweil.

Rodriguez soon brought a meal over to Yang Yi, and after placing the plate in front of him, he whispered, "Boss, I’ll go and collect some more for you from others. You definitely won’t have enough with these."

Yang Yi shook his head and then smiled, "No need. Given the current situation, it’s better for us to keep a low profile."

Rodriguez looked bewildered and said, "But boss, if we show weakness now, everyone will bully us, so we need to be even tougher."

Yang Yi smiled and replied, "No, at least wait until I finish what I have now."

Whispering, Yang Yi, who was already dizzy from hunger, immediately started to eat. He ate very quickly, and at this moment, Gweil silently placed his slice of bread on Yang Yi’s plate.

Yang Yi nodded and smiled, but he immediately returned the slice of bread to Gweil and whispered, "No matter what happens, I have never had the habit of taking food from my underlings’ plates."

Gweil spread his hands and said, "But you need this now, that’s all. There are responsibilities that come with being the boss, and duties that come with being an underling, right?"

After thinking it over, Yang Yi reached out and took the bread slice back, swallowing it down in a few bites.

Having finished his own breakfast, Yang Yi finally took a breath and asked, "Where’s Hank?"

Yang Yi was mentally prepared for his underlings to scatter, as these people weren’t exactly life-or-death comrades. But he had worked hard to deceive Hank for so long, and now Hank had also avoided him, which made Yang Yi feel extremely uncomfortable.

"Hank? Don’t know. He hasn’t hung around with us since you were put away."

Rodriguez looked indifferent and, seeing Yang Yi’s annoyance, he leaned in and said, "Do you want me to stab him?"

Yang Yi didn’t want to show any signs of being upset, but for someone as young as he, the harsh reality of human nature was indeed a tough lesson.

"No need to stab him. Who will have the last laugh isn’t certain yet."

Sighing softly, Yang Yi held back Rodriguez, who was about to get up and collect food for him, shook his head, and said, "Don’t go. It’s not about showing weakness, but necessary restraint. I’ve just come out of solitary, and I don’t want to go back in today."

Hamer Phil said with concern, "Boss, do you want to go back to your cell and rest a bit? You look very tired."

Yang Yi shook his head, "No, I need to walk around."

Yang Yi had a lot to do, so he had to seize the opportunity of being let out to handle some matters.

Yang Yi had now realized that fighting against the prison warden in this place was simply a dead-end.

The warden had countless ways to kill Yang Yi. The simplest one was to have the guards shoot him with live ammunition instead of rubber bullets during a fight with other prisoners, and there wouldn’t even be any repercussions for killing Yang Yi.

In a place absolutely controlled by the warden, under his rules, it was ridiculous to fantasize about winning.

This situation must change quickly, or else Yang Yi would eventually die here.

Yang Yi managed to thrive not just because he could fight. In a place like prison, it was the warden and the guards who were the gods controlling others’ destinies, and even at his boldest, Yang Yi was still but an ant.

To get by, one needed to understand the big picture. After Zhang Yong escaped, the foundation for Yang Yi’s planned escape no longer existed. Now that he had been targeted, only by leaving prison as soon as possible could he ensure his safety and fight with anyone under a new set of rules.

Yang Yi used to think he was smart. He felt he could outthink anything, which was why he didn’t want to seek help from the outside, didn’t want to escape with others’ assistance—he wanted to rely on his own wits to break out in an unimaginable way.

But Yang Yi’s thoughts had changed, securing others’ help was part of his strength, whether for money or for some emotional reason. The bottom line was that being able to mobilize people inside the prison to aid his escape was an indicator of his power.

After finishing breakfast, Yang Yi stood up. He still felt weak, but at least he wasn’t dizzy anymore after eating.

"Let’s take a walk."

He called his underlings and slowly walked out.

Sitting in his familiar spot, Yang Yi leaned back in his chair and looked up at the sky. Then he whispered, "The feeling of freedom is truly wonderful."

After sitting for a while, Yang Yi stood up and then Rodriguez quickly approached him, saying, "Boss."

Yang Yi waved his hand and said, "I’ve got some things to handle, wait here for me."

Just like you have Buddy in the light-offender area, there’s of course a Buddy in the high-security area, and having been there for so long, Yang Yi certainly knew this person.

After scanning the area and spotting his target, Yang Yi walked over by himself, and during his walk, he saw Keli in a corner.

Keli was watching Yang Yi, but when he realized Yang Yi was watching him too, he immediately lowered his head and turned his face away.

The first one to defect now acted as a stranger, and Yang Yi could only scoff. What else could he say?

Yang Yi approached the high-security area’s go-to guy and whispered, "Buddy, I need to make a phone call."

A Mexican looked at Yang Yi and then spread his hands, saying solemnly, "Hello, bad boy, I can’t give you a phone, nor can I do business with you. If I did your business, then I’d have no business left."

Just as expected, once the warden gave an order, Yang Yi truly couldn’t make a move. Now he couldn’t even make a phone call.

Yang Yi turned to leave, and just then, he noticed a group of people closing in on him.

People from Hell’s Angels, that motorcycle gang.

Surrounded by seven or eight burly men, Yang Yi wasn’t very nervous. He looked at the guards and saw they were watching him, but as the Hell’s Angels approached, the guards made no move.

Yang Yi frowned. He wasn’t afraid of these Hell’s Angels; what he truly didn’t want was another spell in solitary. Unfortunately, the situation was such that if he dared to strike, he’d surely end up back in solitary.

Without additional punishment or being placed in solitary confinement, there was just a stream of people coming to provoke Yang Yi, all arranged by the warden. He wouldn’t kill him outright, but he’d also never let him off easy.
