Chapter 148 - 147 Leap

Chapter 148: Chapter 147 Leap

It felt like he was back to when he first started learning from Zhang Yong.

Yang Yi now worked in the special ward during the day, and spent his afternoons and evenings sparring with Zhang Yong, just as Zhang Yong had said, they were truly going at it now.

Yang Yi felt he had made especially great progress during this time, but the cost was that there wasn’t a place on his body that didn’t hurt, except for his face,

He was still unable to defeat Zhang Yong, that was certain, but Yang Yi was no longer an opponent Zhang Yong could handle with ease, he needed to go all out.

Sometimes, when two experts sparred, one would take down the other in just one move, it really didn’t mean there was a big difference in their skill levels, for among experts, victory or defeat could hinge on a hair’s breadth, and the higher the skill level of the contenders, the quicker the outcome was decided.

For an entire month, Yang Yi hadn’t seen Brian, because meeting Brian too often would definitely arouse suspicion. Listening to stories was an excuse that could be used in front of others, but to be together all the time, that was definitely not normal, besides, meeting Brian wasn’t that easy for Yang Yi.

Now, Yang Yi was finally able to make a move against the beast, Wayne, because Owen had been transferred away three months ago and was now the new warden.

Now Yang Yi got no special treatment at all, but thankfully no one wanted to provoke him, so even though Owen was gone, life didn’t much differ from before.

Other than Yang Yi growing increasingly anxious.

What Zhang Yong really intended to do about the beast, Wayne, Yang Yi still couldn’t figure out. He had asked many times, but Zhang Yong just wouldn’t tell him.

Zhang Yong was adjusting his condition, something Yang Yi could feel very distinctly.

Zhang Yong spoke less and less, and his gaze became more and more piercing, so eventually Yang Yi also began to consciously avoid bothering him.

After returning to his own cell from the special ward, Yang Yi tidied up casually and got ready to spar with Zhang Yong, as had become his habit.

But this time, Zhang Yong sat cross-legged on the bed and didn’t come down.

Just glancing at Yang Yi, Zhang Yong suddenly said, "What’s the date today?"

"Ah, today is August 16th."

Zhang Yong took a deep breath and said solemnly, "It’s time."

"Time for what?"

Yang Yi seemed somewhat nervous, but Zhang Yong didn’t answer his question, only saying indifferently, "I’m going back to my own cell now, I need to be alone for a few days."

Yang Yi cautiously asked, "What do you mean by ’it’s time’? Brother Yong, I consider you a brother, and you should too. I won’t say I’ll help you with anything, but at least tell me what it is you’re planning, okay?"

Zhang Yong jumped down from the bunk, stared intently at Yang Yi, and said gravely, "I’ll definitely let you know when it’s time. If I die by the hands of the beast, Wayne, then I’m counting on you to kill him for me. But don’t get involved in my fight with the beast."

Zhang Yong patted Yang Yi on the shoulder and turned around, pulling his neatly-rolled bedding from the upper bunk. Then he stood at the door of the cell and shouted loudly, "Officer! I’m ready."

A prison guard came over and unlocked the cell; Zhang Yong stepped out, and once the guard locked the door behind him, he looked back at Yang Yi, waved his hand, and then left with long strides.

Watching Zhang Yong’s retreating figure, Yang Yi felt he knew how Zhang Yong could enter the special ward now. Since he could bribe Owen to let himself work in the special ward, Zhang Yong could certainly bribe the new warden or someone else to get in. If Zhang Yong could easily switch cells at will, then he must have been able to accomplish that, it was just a matter of how much money it would take.

He just didn’t know when Zhang Yong was planning to make his move; Yang Yi felt it had to be in the next couple of days, or perhaps the day his job was supplanted by Zhang Yong.

Yang Yi still wanted to help; he didn’t believe that the feud between Zhang Yong and Wayne had to be settled one-on-one. To take down an enemy, every possible means should be employed, involving as many people as necessary, using whatever weapons available. Facing one’s enemy in a fair fight to settle a grudge was the silliest choice.

But there was only a need for one janitor in the special ward, meaning if Zhang Yong were to replace Yang Yi’s job to enter the special ward, then Yang Yi couldn’t get in, and if he couldn’t enter the special ward, how could he help Zhang Yong?

Feeling a mess inside, Yang Yi simply began to practice his boxing, continuing until his emotions returned to a calm state.

Thinking about anything now was useless, better to take things one step at a time.

He practiced from the afternoon until dinner time. After eating dinner, Yang Yi continued to practice late into the night until he was so exhausted that he could fall asleep.

But once he lay down, Yang Yi didn’t sleep well at all, his mind in constant turmoil until breakfast time.

Arriving at the cafeteria, Yang Yi saw that Zhang Yong had already taken his usual seat, and suddenly, Yang Yi felt a sense of peace descend upon him.

He wanted to greet Zhang Yong, and he also wanted to ask if Zhang Yong was really going to the special ward as he suspected, but seeing Zhang Yong calmly eating his meal, Yang Yi thought it would be better not to disturb him.

Asking Zhang Yong would yield no response; better to let him enjoy the quiet before the final battle.

After finishing the meal, as Yang Yi started to leave the cafeteria with the other prisoners, he noticed a serious problem.

Zhang Yong’s steps seemed unsteady.

Zhang Yong had already left the cafeteria.

After breakfast was time for fresh air, as well as the time for Yang Yi to go to work in the special section. He really wanted to catch up with Zhang Yong to ask what was wrong, but making a sudden move in the lineup could result in rebuke or even a beating from the guards, so Yang Yi had no choice but to walk out slowly, patiently waiting.

Once outside the cafeteria, away from the prisoner line, Yang Yi jogged over to Zhang Yong.

Zhang Yong was standing there, waiting for Yang Yi.

"What’s wrong?"

Looking at the anxious Yang Yi with furrowed brows, Zhang Yong smiled and said softly, "I’m fine. I know you have a lot of questions for me. Check under your bed after work, and you’ll find the answers. Now, go do what you have to do."

Yang Yi wanted to say more, but Zhang Yong’s face hardened, and he said sternly, "Get going!"

After speaking, Zhang Yong started walking towards his regular chair, ignoring Yang Yi, which made Yang Yi feel both angry and helpless as he shouted, "Can’t you be less cryptic? Is that too much to ask?"

Zhang Yong didn’t look back; he simply raised his hand and waved in the air.

Muttering his frustration under his breath, Yang Yi started walking towards the special section.

Just as he was about to exit the yard where the serious offenders were allowed their exercise, Yang Yi suddenly heard a buzzing sound that grew louder, accompanied by the surprised shouts of the prisoners.

Turning around in confusion, Yang Yi’s eyes widened in shock.

A helicopter had flown over the prison walls and was now hovering above the yard, flying low and fast, with a rope dangling from it.

The helicopter slowed a bit but didn’t stop. It quickly skimmed over a chair, and just as it passed, someone jumped onto the chair and grabbed onto the rope hanging from the helicopter.

Amidst the chaotic cheers and shouts of the prisoners, and the gunfire from the guards, the helicopter swiftly ascended with the person clinging to the rope, who waved down at the crowd below.

He was waving at Yang Yi because he was Zhang Yong.

Yang Yi was stunned for a moment, but he quickly raised his hand to wave back, saying goodbye to Zhang Yong as he watched the helicopter fly out of the prison.
