Chapter 1310: Chapter 1315: Return Flight
Military transport planes do indeed have parachutes because the possibility of an attack is quite large.
Jason had already put on a parachute, Yang Yi thought for a moment and decided to accept the parachute Jason handed him, then put it on.
No harm in being prepared.
He pulled the door, and it unexpectedly opened; it wasn’t locked inside. He didn’t know if this was an oversight by the pilot or if the door was deliberately left open for Yang Yi.
The pilot on the main seat tilted his head to one side, the copilot’s seat was empty, and the loadmaster sat in his own seat, already dead.
Yang Yi took one glance and could see the current situation. The reason the door wasn’t locked is that someone killed the pilot and the loadmaster in the cockpit. They first killed the loadmaster, using blunt force to hit him on the head while he wasn’t paying attention, killing him with one strike, then immediately turned to hit the pilot on the back of his head.
Open the door, see the situation inside, and then Yang Yi immediately crouched down.
The door is left unlocked, waiting for someone to open it and then shoot the moment they enter the cockpit.
This is a military aircraft; it’s very normal for pilots to be armed.
Sure enough, just as Yang Yi crouched down, gunfire erupted above his head.
Yang Yi crouched, peeking quickly.
The copilot was a bit far from Yang Yi, out of reach of his knife.
Standing guard behind the door, shooting at point-blank range is foolish because if you miss, someone can grab the gun; keeping a distance of a couple of meters makes it out of reach for someone trying to grab the gun, and shooting from a distance doesn’t make a difference.
Yang Yi couldn’t reach, but at that moment Reggie entered too.
To be precise, it was Reggie’s arm that entered.
First shoot, then go inside. Reggie was a bit flustered, reacting like any normal person would, but the problem was he was now in the airplane cockpit.
The copilot fired again, while Yang Yi plunged forward, grabbed the shooter’s leg, and pulled hard, then lunged again, stabbing a knife into the pilot’s neck.
Pulling the knife back, blood sprayed out suddenly, and then Yang Yi shouted, "Cease fire! Cease fire!"
Reggie ceased shooting, and Yang Yi yelled, "Don’t fire, it’s safe, put your gun away, oh, shit..."
Reggie, panting heavily, looked around, then immediately said weakly, "Oh, shit..."
The entire flight crew was dead, but that wasn’t the biggest issue; the biggest problem was that a cockpit window had been shot.
A plane’s windshield is extremely strong, and those on military transport planes are even tougher. Although one window’s glass had been shot, the glass hadn’t shattered completely but had formed a spider-web pattern turning white rather than staying transparent.
Reggie took a deep breath, glanced at the glass, and softly said, "It shouldn’t break, right?"
Jason followed inside, looking helpless and whispering, "It’s like this, it’s really like this... What do we do! We don’t have a pilot!"
Jason covered his eyes with his hand, paused for a moment, then dropped his hand and said wearily, "Guys, should we parachute out now?"
Reggie shrugged and said, "There’s some good news; do you want to hear it?"
"Are you a pilot?"
Reggie nodded and said, "Correct, I am a pilot. Although I haven’t flown a C-17, I am indeed a pilot. I think I can fly this plane to the United States and land it, but there’s a tiny bad news, which is this glass could break at any moment, with a snap, break, and then we’ll have to continue flying in the sub-zero gust somewhere impossible. So we have two choices now: either bet the glass won’t break and proceed with planned flight, or turn back before the glass breaks."
"I think you should start operating the plane first, and then we can discuss whether to continue with the planned flight or turn around."
While Reggie and Jason were discussing, Yang Yi had already dropped the head-broken pilot from his seat.
Jason breathed out and said, "I haven’t flown a C-17; it’s a big aircraft, but I think..."
Yang Yi sat in the main seat, looked at the flight instruments, and matched them against the flight plan, then softly said, "Everyone, our flight path has been altered, although I’m not sure where this guy planned to go, we certainly can’t get to the United States with this direction."
Yang Yi’s actions were very skillful, Reggie was a bit stunned and said, "You haven’t flown a C-17, right?"
"No."
"Transport planes are quite similar, but why do you look so proficient?"
"I’ve read the flight manual."
Reggie shrugged, then Jason was taken aback and said, "Just a suggestion, shouldn’t a professional pilot operate the plane?"
Reggie sighed, took the copilot’s seat, and then said to Jason, "I also haven’t flown a C-17, but though my flight hours are longer, he has read the flight manual, so let him operate the plane."
Jason urgently said, "Guys, this is a serious matter, you’re flying a very large and advanced plane, very costly, and importantly, I think our lives are quite precious, so shouldn’t you consider letting someone experienced fly?"
Reggie sighed and said, "Um, under normal circumstances, yes, but... he’s read the flight manual."
"Just reading the flight manual means what! I’ve read books on how to be popular with women, am I popular!"
Reggie simply turned to Jason with an expression of helplessness and said, "Some people, they read the flight manual once, and they know how to fly the plane, just as some learn to charm women without needing a book. This is the difference, do you understand? I’m a pilot, but I trust him, feel he’s more suitable to operate it, so I think you needn’t worry."
Yang Yi calmly said, "Alright, do we turn back or continue flying?"
Jason sighed and said, "I think we should continue as planned since you both can pilot the plane."
Yang Yi seriously said, "Two issues: one, the glass could explode; and the second is, aren’t you worried this guy planted some bomb or something on the plane? If we follow the original plan to the United States, it takes quite a long time."
Jason swallowed, then sighed and said, "Fine, I think you’re right to be concerned, then we should turn back, hmm, let’s turn back."
