Chapter 1306: Chapter 1311: Each Does Their Best
A day has passed without any progress. Yang Yi isn’t anxious, but he’s quite worried.
Worried about Anton, worried about Gong Yang, worried about Satan, worried about Tartar.
There’s actually no need to hide in Baghdad, but Yang Yi is putting pressure on Aaron. He doesn’t always want to show his capability; he wants to apply some pressure on Aaron to prompt him to fulfill his promises faster.
Yang Yi could only call Grevatov, because aside from Grevatov, he had no one else to ask.
There are very few people who can actually gather intelligence in Mosul now, aside from the Organization of Water, which is the Black Devil.
Grevatov quickly answered Yang Yi’s call.
"Brother, any news?"
"No."
Yang Yi sighed. Just when he was about to hang up, Grevatov continued, "There’s something I want to discuss with you."
"Go ahead."
"We want to enter Mosul."
Yang Yi thought for a while and said, "You want us to help?"
Grevatov continued in a deep voice, "This isn’t a request, just a trade-off. We’re heading to Baghdad, and after gathering in Baghdad, we’ll find a way to enter Mosul."
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "What’s the point? I know the strength of the Black Devil, but the problem is, this kind of rescue operation really can’t work with too few people."
Grevatov said deeply, "How many personnel can the Organization of Water deploy?"
Yang Yi had people, he really did. The result of his long-term operation is that he could deploy nearly three hundred people at any time. Although their strength isn’t particularly high, he could use them.
"Two hundred people, but employing them comes at a great cost."
Grevatov thought for a moment and said, "First, we need to know Satan’s position. Assuming Satan is still besieged, we first need to know their location, then we can launch a rescue operation."
Yang Yi continued calmly, "It costs a lot. My personnel are mercenaries. You know the driving force behind mercenaries. In such a highly dangerous operation, I need the full payment upfront - two hundred people. How much do you think it will cost?"
Grevatov thought for a moment, then said softly, "I think we can afford it."
Yang Yi responded without hesitation, "Pay me two hundred million US Dollars upfront, and my people can gather and be ready to launch an attack within two days. During the operation, you must pay me another hundred million US Dollars. If casualties exceed twenty percent, you must add another hundred million. If you’re talking money, then this is the final offer."
Favors are favors, business is business. Yang Yi could choose to help as much as he could within his capabilities, but if it’s a matter of money, then there’s nothing else to say - pay up first.
Yang Yi wasn’t asking an outrageous price because this kind of operation is extremely risky. Without a high enough fee to transcend the threat of death, no one would dare to do it.
Grevatov thought for a moment, then said softly, "I need to consider it. Can we meet? I will arrive in Baghdad as soon as possible."
"Meeting is inconvenient. Contact me again when you arrive. If possible, I’ll meet you. But my current suggestion is to at least ascertain Satan’s position before the rescue operation; otherwise, there’s no way to carry out the rescue operation."
"Understood, I’ll contact you again."
Yang Yi hung up the phone and then gently put it back on the table.
Brian whispered, "No news is actually good news. If it was over, the electronic interference should have ended."
Indeed, if the electronic interference in Mosul is lifted, then there are only two possibilities: either Satan destroyed the source of electronic interference, or Satan was finished, and ISIS would naturally cease the interference.
Yang Yi tapped his fingers lightly on the table and then murmured, "It’d be good if we could conduct some aerial reconnaissance..."
Using planes for aerial reconnaissance is of course a quicker way, but where would the plane come from, and using civilian airliners for reconnaissance could indeed be akin to suicide.
Civilian airliners, whether large or small, certainly wouldn’t have dedicated reconnaissance equipment. If using visual methods for reconnaissance, they would need to fly very low to see clearly, because it’s not about just getting a rough idea; to accurately determine Satan’s surrounded position, they’d have to fly very low.
The airliner’s maneuverability is already poor; flying over Mosul for low-altitude reconnaissance, isn’t that just asking for trouble?
Using drones, well, electronic interference isn’t just for show, and drones can’t be controlled at all. Then the simplest problem - those large reconnaissance drones are one of the core military equipments; where would Yang Yi get one from?
So what Yang Yi said was pointless, but Brian said, "If we use satellites, we might give it a try."
"Reconnaissance satellite? The Russian one?"
Yang Yi thought for a moment. He felt he didn’t have the clout to request a temporary orbit change of a US reconnaissance satellite.
Satellites operate along fixed orbits. Nowadays, satellite signals are sent very quickly, but to reconnoiter a specific location, it must move to that orbit, which first takes time, not to mention a military reconnaissance satellite’s temporary orbit change costs a lot of money.
The simplest example would be if a satellite is worth a few hundred million dollars, its lifespan in a fixed orbit is five years, but if it temporarily changes orbit, it consumes fuel. Fuel, of course, isn’t worth much, but once it’s used up, the satellite loses its ability to change orbit and becomes virtually useless. A satellite initially planned for a five-year lifespan would need to be scrapped after one or two years; it’s not just the cost of the satellite itself, but it also affects the whole reconnaissance satellite system.
So any country’s military reconnaissance satellite requires Ministry of Defense approval for a temporary orbit change, and Yang Yi clearly doesn’t have that ability.
There aren’t many countries with reconnaissance satellites, and Yang Yi felt the only one possibly using a satellite to reconnoiter Mosul would be Russia, because it’s already supposed to focus on this area.
You never know unless you try; Yang Yi picked up the phone and said softly, "I’ll call Grevatov and ask if there’s a possibility of using Russian satellite reconnaissance."
"Russian satellite resolution is too low. Deciding whether to go to a particular location for a rescue operation based on a satellite image, I’m unwilling to take that risk."
Yang Yi said softly, "You have to try."
Brian said nothing, just told Yang Yi, "The important thing now is what you’re going to do next. You can’t stay hiding here forever."
Yang Yi nodded and said softly, "Another night, we’ll leave here tomorrow."
"Where to?"
"I don’t know, I haven’t decided yet."
Yang Yi also felt helpless. He now needed to buy time, and as for where to go, it didn’t seem to matter much. Every particularly safe place seemed a bit disadvantageous to him, so he unexpectedly hoped someone would come to give him something to do.
