Chapter 1227: Chapter 1232: Perform Well
What is faith?
For those without faith, faith is nothing. Whether it’s religious belief or any other kind of faith, it’s something unnecessary, so naturally, it’s meaningless.
For those with faith, faith is everything—it’s life, it’s something more important than life itself. Faith can be varied, which is why the word "faith" exists as a way to encompass all of it.
For those with faith but who lack conviction, faith is something dispensable—something to be used when needed and discarded like an old shoe when not.
Yang Yi is someone who falls between having faith without conviction and having none at all. His purpose is revenge. Unless something unexpected happens, revenge is his faith, and he will carry it out to the end.
But if something more important than revenge comes up, Yang Yi would abandon revenge, whether willingly or not, because the living are more important than the dead. A great number of living people outweigh Yang Yi’s already deceased parents. On this point, Yang Yi is always clear-headed.
However, Anton, and Annastasia, and Brian—these are people whose faith is unwavering.
Elvin’s faith is The Cleaner—specifically, the ideals and goals for which The Cleaner fights. Because of this, Elvin is a person of faith. He was able to face torture head-on and embrace death without hesitation, even sending out the false intelligence he aimed to convey. So Elvin’s death has meaning.
Anna’s faith was the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is gone.
Brian’s faith is Anna. So now he’s living very well—even if he dies immediately, he wouldn’t have any regrets.
But what about Anton? Anton’s faith was the Soviet Union. Yet the Soviet Union is gone, and his faith also included Yarebin.
Yarebin, the king of Black Devils—he was the faith of the Black Devil. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he became the remaining faith for the remnants of Black Devil.
Now, Yarebin is dead. Anton’s faith is entirely lost—whether it’s the Soviet Union or Yarebin, his faith has been completely obliterated.
This truly causes Anton great suffering—immense suffering, extreme pain.
Yang Yi doesn’t know how to comfort Anton. He thought about it for a long time and finally said to Anton, "Then make the Organization of Water your faith. Help it grow and thrive; create your own legend."
Anton was startled for a moment, then shook his head and said, "Sorry, I can’t do that—not now at least—because you don’t yet have that level of personal charisma. I can help you, but you’ll never replace Yarebin in my heart. I’m an atheist, but Yarebin is my god!"
Yang Yi shrugged, smiled, and said, "I never intended to replace Yarebin for you. I only hope you can treat the Organization of Water as your driving force, the reason to strive and fight. Let’s work together to make the Organization of Water our collective faith."
Anton took a deep breath, gently shook his head, and then said softly, "Yarebin is dead. I don’t even know how his funeral will be conducted, but I must attend his funeral—I absolutely must. I need to see how people will treat him. Little Egg, Yarebin dedicated his entire life to the Soviet Union. Now that the Soviet Union is gone, we must ensure he gets the treatment he deserves. Because the Soviet Union is gone, all that remains is us!"
"If Yarebin’s funeral leaves you feeling..."
"Then let the world reacquaint itself with the name Black Devil!"
Anton said this with determination—it wasn’t an empty threat, but Yang Yi believed it was undoubtedly one of the most intimidating threats in the world.
"Who told you about Yarebin’s death?"
Anton replied softly, "A Black Devil, one of them."
"So who is handling Yarebin’s final affairs?"
After a brief pause, Anton said softly, "Gong Yang."
Yang Yi let out a breath, then said to Anton, "If Gong Yang’s efforts don’t satisfy you, what will you do?"
Anton replied expressionlessly, "Gong Yang was chosen by Yarebin as his successor. If he fails to meet Yarebin’s expectations, I won’t have much to say about that. My target would then be Russia. If Russia fails to satisfy Gong Yang, I’ll make Russia pay! Since Russia inherited the position and legacy of the Soviet Union, Russia must assume the responsibilities it should bear."
Yang Yi nodded and then smiled at Anton, saying, "Whatever you decide to do, the Organization of Water will fully support you!"
Anton froze for a moment and asked, "Full support? Why?"
"No reason—because you’re part of the Organization of Water. Also, I’m serious—Brian, Anna, and I all owe Gong Yang a debt. Since this matter has fallen to Gong Yang, repaying that debt to him is only right."
Anton exhaled and said, "Thank you."
Yang Yi waved dismissively and said, "Before you truly take action for Yarebin, go to Ukraine and find someone. I think the Organization of Water needs to expand its high-level combat capabilities. We need to recruit, and these recruits will be led by you. I only want the best—you’re responsible for finding them."
"How many?"
"As many as possible."
Anton nodded, then asked, "Who am I looking for in Ukraine?"
"That guy whose bones were all broken. I didn’t ask his name at the time, so I don’t even know what he’s called..."
Anton nodded and said, "A tough guy, huh? He’s good. I can have him work for me. Ability is secondary—I admire his toughness, his refusal to crack even after all his bones were broken."
After speaking, Anton suddenly turned to Yang Yi and said, "I might need to postpone because I’m heading to Russia right now—immediately. I understand what you’re thinking, but I don’t want to wait."
Yang Yi quickly shook his head and said, "You’re mistaken. I wasn’t trying to come up with excuses to delay your trip. I simply wish you could bring more people, especially if you can recruit two more Black Devils. If not, bring someone as backup—that’ll be helpful and serve as a test too."
Anton nodded and said, "Got it. I’ll head out immediately. Let’s hope Yarebin receives the treatment he deserves; otherwise, the consequences might truly be severe."
Yang Yi spoke solemnly, "You go first—I’ll follow you shortly. As a spy, I hold Yarebin in high regard. And moreover..."
After sighing, Yang Yi murmured, "Should we inform Brian?"
Anton spread his hands and said, "No need to ask. Just tell Annastasia—she’ll know what to do, and she’ll decide whether to inform Brian or not."
Yang Yi picked up his phone, and at that moment, the satellite phone that Aaron had given him suddenly rang.
Yang Yi gestured, then answered the call. He immediately heard Aaron’s low voice say, "I’ve received some news—apparently, the Black Devil King Yarebin has passed away. But the source is complicated, and I’m not entirely sure. Can you check to confirm whether Yarebin is truly dead? And if so, see how his funeral is being handled—it’s very important!"
Yang Yi paused for a moment and then asked, "Why me?"
Aaron sighed and said, "The guy under your command is a Black Devil—did you think I wouldn’t notice? So this is something only you can handle. Give it your best effort."
