Chapter 1210 - 1215: Meeting Again

Chapter 1210: Chapter 1215: Meeting Again

Many are destined to die, they will perish easily, but every death carries meaning.

At least, this is what every dying person believes before their final moments.

Yang Yi was perplexed.

What is it that makes members of the Cleaners and the Grey-cloaked People so indifferent to death?

When one member after another can rush to their deaths without hesitation for their beliefs, defeating such an organization becomes almost impossible.

But with both organizations equally fearless and brave, Yang Yi realized why the Cleaners and the Grey-cloaked People had battled for decades, yet neither could decisively defeat the other.

Yang Yi’s wounds were being tended to, while Aaron sat across from him.

As the highest-ranking CIA official, Aaron was ill-suited to appear here, but as the highest-ranking Grey-cloaked operative in the United States, he had no choice but to be present.

Someone else was responsible for handling the aftermath of the café incident; at this moment, Aaron was solely fulfilling his duties as a Grey-cloaked operative.

Of course, Aaron had never formally admitted his identity as a member of the Grey-cloaked People—not directly, at least.

Keaton’s corpse lay there, Aaron gazed at Keaton’s lifeless body silently, lost in thought.

Finally, once the doctor finished treating the wound on Yang Yi’s neck, he quietly stepped away.

"Keaton had been with me for many years. I need a convincing excuse to explain why he died within the borders of the United States."

Although his tone was calm, Yang Yi could discern Aaron’s profound pain and sense of loss. The bond with Keaton must have been truly significant.

Aaron lifted his head, looking at Yang Yi, his arm gesturing aimlessly before he said in a low voice, "Keaton’s death, however, was meaningful. He protected Elvin, enabling us to capture the most important live target in our history. His sacrifice was worth it."

Yang Yi still remained silent.

Aaron exhaled softly and said to Yang Yi gently, "I’ve started receiving updates—operations across various locations are proceeding smoothly, except for Paris. The situation there doesn’t align with what you reported. Our casualties have been considerable. But of course, this isn’t your fault. Such outcomes are entirely possible, and the brighter side is that we successfully intercepted the Cleaners. Though there were losses, the gains were greater—we captured four injured, but surviving, targets."

Yang Yi took a deep breath before closing his eyes. He murmured, "So, do I still have any value? Oh, you haven’t verified Elvin’s identity yet. I’m curious though, just how do you plan to confirm it?"

Aaron smiled and said, "We can certainly prove his identity; trust me, it isn’t that difficult."

Yang Yi nodded lightly, then looked at Aaron, speaking casually, "And what do you plan to do with me?"

Aaron pointed at Yang Yi, his expression serious, "You’re important. Very important. So, how we arrange for you requires careful planning."

Yang Yi let out a long sigh before smiling bitterly, "Honestly, I regret it a little. Anger clouded my judgment, and I made hasty decisions. But looking back, what good outcome could ever come from being a traitor?"

Yes, a traitor—what good outcome could possibly await?

Aaron frowned slightly, "Oh? And what outcome do you think you’ll face?"

Yang Yi turned his head away and chuckled, "I don’t know what you’ll do. But typically, isn’t it standard procedure to put me under house arrest, wait for my wounds to heal, then proceed with torture to extract every piece of information I know, and finally eliminate me once I’ve exhausted my utility? That’s typical for someone deemed useless, right?"

Aaron pointed at Yang Yi, "That’s exactly why I’m worried about you thinking like this. So, I just told you—you are important, very important."

Aaron walked up to Yang Yi. He intended to pat his shoulder, but upon seeing Yang Yi’s injured left shoulder and bandaged neck, he found there wasn’t an appropriate place to do so.

Clearing his throat slightly, Aaron said gravely, "Traitors are indeed mistrusted, but you are different. You have value, capability, and strength. So you truly don’t need to worry. The Cleaners value you, but we value you even more. Let me be blunt with you..."

After pausing for a moment, Aaron took a deep breath and continued, "Your arrival and the contributions you’ve made are our greatest gains in years—our most significant triumph. From every perspective, we cannot erase your achievements, because we need you to serve as... a demonstration effect, showing other members of the Cleaners that defecting to us brings concrete benefits."

Yang Yi chuckled, "Oh, a ’Thousand Gold for the Bones of a Dead Horse.’"

"Hmm, what do you mean?"

"Nothing—it’s the same idea as what you just said. Please, continue."

Aaron shrugged, "How to best accommodate you hasn’t been decided yet; we need time to figure it out. But I can assure you—not only are you safe, but you’ll have a far brighter future. Our working methods differ from the Cleaners, but the trust and support we can provide you will far exceed theirs, far exceed anyone’s."

Aaron thought for a moment and added, "Additionally, we now believe you’re truthful—you understand what I mean, right? Because we’ve confirmed Elvin’s identity, and he’s currently undergoing interrogation."

Yang Yi remained silent for a long time, then said softly, "This for me... well, Elvin isn’t my friend. Betraying him doesn’t make me... not... but still, I feel an inner sense of guilt."

Aaron said flatly, "I must interrogate him immediately. The longer we delay, the smaller the losses for the Cleaners. So I’d like you to meet him; it might help us break down his psychological defenses faster."

Yang Yi froze for a moment, staring at Aaron with an angry expression.

Aaron shrugged slightly, "I hope you’re willing to help—but I won’t force you. If you truly don’t want to, then don’t."

Yang Yi quickly said, "Fine, I won’t go. Because of guilt—although Elvin isn’t my friend, he’s never harmed me. Do you understand?"

Aaron spread his hands, "Alright, I understand how you feel. If you don’t want to, we’ll leave it at that."

Yang Yi breathed heavily twice, then slumped and said, "Since it’s already done, acting regretful now only invites ridicule. Alright, I should bid farewell to Elvin. I’ll see him!"

Aaron nodded, "Wait a moment."

He opened the door and gestured; a middle-aged man entered, and Aaron said solemnly, "Wheel him over. We’re going to see Elvin."

Yang Yi sat in a wheelchair, pushed along behind Aaron. After traveling for quite a stretch, they arrived at a hospital operating room.

Aaron opened the door, and Yang Yi was wheeled inside, stopping in front of a surgical bed.

There was no screaming, no blood, but Elvin’s expression was contorted with pain. Aaron waved his hand, and the two attendants near the bed stepped aside.

Yang Yi spoke softly, "Hi, Elvin."

Elvin glanced sideways at Yang Yi, then smiled weakly, "Hello, Sea God. Never thought we’d meet again so soon!"
