Spy-x-War Showdown -
Chapter 121 - 120 Newcomer
Chapter 121: Chapter 120 Newcomer
Hamer Phil had been transferred away for three days, and during those three days, nothing happened. Yang Yi wanted to talk to Owen and approached the prison guards, but Owen avoided him at all costs.
Yang Yi wasn’t in a hurry, but he was very curious. He wondered what Owen was really up to.
It was another day for airing out, and Yang Yi sat on the same bench with Zhang Yong.
"Nice weather today."
"Not bad."
"What have you been studying lately?"
"I’ve been studying acting, haven’t I told you already?"
"I’ve been meaning to ask, is acting any use to a spy? You’re not planning to go undercover, are you?"
"I don’t know if acting is useful for a spy, but how would I know what a spy is supposed to learn? I think learning to act must have some benefits, right? Life’s a stage, after all, and it requires acting skills."
"You don’t need acting lessons; you’re already good enough. No one can outplay you. I think if you went undercover, you’d be an ace."
"Thanks for the compliment."
"No, I was actually taking a dig at you, haha."
Zhang Yong laughed heartily, and Yang Yi was puzzled about what he found so amusing.
"Brother Yong, can I ask you something?"
"Ask away."
"Could you tell me about Beast Wayne? I’m just curious."
Zhang Yong glanced at Yang Yi with an indifferent face and said, "Why ask about him? I don’t even want to mention that guy. He has nothing to do with you, stop being so nosy."
Zhang Yong’s acting skills were top-notch. Even though he hated Beast Wayne so much he wouldn’t have spared his life, his expression was totally indifferent, as if the person had nothing to do with him.
Yang Yi expressed his disdain, "Stingy, forget it then."
Suddenly, Zhang Yong spoke very seriously, "You know, little Ben, I’ve realized you’re a pretty strange guy."
"How am I strange?"
"You came to prison to learn, right? So why do you have the time to worry about other people’s business? In fact, it was just a casual mention on my part, but people who have been locked up for a while do become psychologically fragile. I just didn’t expect you’d be thinking about killing Beast Wayne; it’s making me start to regret telling you about him."
"No, no, I wasn’t thinking of killing him."
Zhang Yong said earnestly, "How’s your acting going?"
"It’s going alright."
"I don’t think it’s that great because I could tell right away that you were lying."
After saying that, Zhang Yong turned his head back, looking up at the sky with an indifferent expression, "Don’t be too meddlesome. Beast Wayne is mine, and no one else is allowed to touch him."
"I wasn’t thinking of killing him. Now that you’ve said that, why would I want to kill him? Besides, even if I did, I’d have to be able to, right?"
For Yang Yi now, lying was easier than drinking water, but he was curious whether Zhang Yong had really seen through his thoughts, or was just making an offhand remark.
All of Yang Yi’s minions gathered around him; there wasn’t much to do at the time but chat. It was just then that Yang Yi saw a line of prisoners being escorted by the guards slowly entering the gate.
New inmates have arrived.
Yang Yi’s lackey, Cliff, approached him and said, "Boss, there are new guys here, should I go and check out who they are?"
"Hmm, go ahead."
Yang Yi and the others were in the yard surrounded by wire fences, where inmates had to go through a series of procedures before being assigned cells. They walked along the road outside the wire fence. Most of the inmates in the yard were indifferent, but there were still some who were so bored that they grabbed the wire fence and shouted or threatened the newcomers.
One of the new inmates caught Yang Yi’s attention because the others were handcuffed, but this one was shackled at the ankles, taking very small and clumsy steps, walking with great difficulty, and appearing somewhat ridiculous.
Generally, only particularly dangerous convicts received the special treatment of leg irons. Yang Yi pointed at the shackled inmate and said, "Go ask what crime he committed."
"Sure thing, boss, I’ll go right now."
Yang Yi also had two new inmates under him, who had started following him right from their first day in prison.
Basically, there were all kinds of people in prison, and all kinds of inmates too, but Yang Yi had conditions for selecting people. First and foremost was having a skill, something he could learn from. He was always willing to take in such people.
Ordinary people seldom encounter talented criminals, but in Pelican Bay Prison, such individuals were a dime a dozen, which is why Yang Yi liked Pelican Bay Prison so much. The United States’ justice system had already filtered out the best teachers and minions for him.
But Cliff soon headed over to the guards, gave them a couple of packs of cigarettes, exchanged a few nice words, and after a brief chat, he quickly returned.
"Boss, I found out. The new inmates still don’t know what crimes they’ve committed, but the one with leg irons is an unlucky guy. He managed to escape, but he was caught right after his escape and then he was sent here," reported Cliff.
No wonder he was shackled with leg irons. He was a talent who had managed to escape. Such an inmate would definitely receive special treatment. Without saying anything else, even if it meant being transferred to another prison, they would have to show him who’s boss first, to make sure he wouldn’t dare think about escaping again in this prison.
"Oh, he escaped, did he? What did he do?" asked Yang Yi.
"He has escaped twice now, but he’s just a thief, reportedly a pretty good one. Nevertheless, he’s still just a thief. Oh, his name is Hank."
"A thief?"
Yang Yi couldn’t help but give the inmate another look of surprise. He couldn’t see very clearly from a distance, but he was curious about how a thief managed to escape twice.
"Yes, the guards don’t know much more, but he indeed escaped twice, once very successfully. This time, he was caught just as he got out and then he was brought here, because it’s impossible for him to escape from this place!" Cliff stated with certainty, due to the high security level of Pelican Bay Prison. While one might successfully escape from a mixed-bag prison like the ones in Los Angeles, it definitely wouldn’t work here.
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "He must be kept in the high-security area then. After he comes in, Cliff, ask him if he wants to join us. If he doesn’t want to, Rodriguez."
Rodriguez immediately stepped forward and said, "Boss."
"If he doesn’t want to join us, beat him until he begs you to let him join us."
"Got it, boss."
"Remember, warn the other gangs not to compete with us for people."
"I understand, boss."
Zhang Yong chuckled from the side, "What, you’re interested in him too?"
Yang Yi spread his hands and replied, "That’s right, I’m interested in him."
Zhang Yong said sarcastically, "What do you need a thief for? Are you planning on learning how to steal?"
Yang Yi replied proudly, "Exactly, according to my understanding, aren’t spies supposed to steal? That’s what they show in the movies anyway. Besides, be it intelligence or whatever else, when you strip it down, isn’t it all about stealing?"
Zhang Yong thought for a moment, then nodded, "You’re right. Well, bring him in. But from now on, I’ll have to watch my wallet to make sure you don’t steal it, ha ha."
