Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 1205 - 1210: Astonishing Treasure

Chapter 1205: Chapter 1210: Astonishing Treasure

Yang Yi was gambling with his life.

And now, he’d won the bet.

Of course, it wasn’t purely a gamble—it was based on Yang Yi’s fundamental judgment of Aaron’s psyche.

First of all, Yang Yi held significant value. Whether as someone prepared to betray the Cleaners or as a Cleaner exposed by Aaron, his worth was undeniably high.

Additionally, Bonnie was also immensely valuable. For Aaron to claim he had no interest in Bonnie? That possibility seemed highly unlikely.

So Yang Yi dared to make a gamble. What was he betting on? He wagered that Aaron was again testing him—testing his character.

Sometimes, flaws in one’s character aren’t a bad thing.

Take, for instance, a spy. A spy isn’t supposed to be influenced by emotions. When faced with multiple choices, they should pick the option that best serves the mission. Personal feelings are meant to be suppressed, discarded.

But here’s the problem: humans have emotions. Some people are selfish, prioritizing their own interests, willing to kill anyone just to survive—that’s the choice most people would make.

So who makes a better spy? A robot devoid of any emotion? Or someone rich with feelings, vulnerable enough to make wrong decisions because of them?

Theoretically, a robot is more suitable. Yet throughout world history, those legendary spies have consistently been individuals driven by fierce passions and unshakable convictions—people willing to sacrifice everything for their homeland.

What are the chances that a person who would unhesitatingly kill his own woman to save himself would, when tested, sacrifice anything for his organization?

Yang Yi had made his assessment. So he believed Aaron wasn’t truly intent on killing Bonnie or himself.

Still, Yang Yi firing a gun at himself was undeniably a gamble. He didn’t know if the gun had bullets or even if it was functional, but he had no choice but to pull the trigger.

Sometimes, you just have to gamble. If you’re right, the path ahead becomes easier. If you’re wrong, you pay with your life.

Why? Because it wasn’t just Yang Yi who understood the importance of personality to a spy—Aaron clearly understood it too. And Aaron also knew Yang Yi would perceive this as a test.

So, if Yang Yi didn’t gamble, how could he convince Aaron that he would rather die than harm Bonnie?

But what if Aaron did truly intend for Yang Yi to personally kill Bonnie? That possibility loomed large—very large.

And so Yang Yi took the gamble, staking his life as a wager—and he won.

But having won the gamble, having passed the test, does it end here?

Of course not. This was merely a character test, nothing more. If Yang Yi could so easily gain Aaron’s complete trust, then the Cleaners wouldn’t need to expend so much effort.

"Was this a test?"

Yang Yi didn’t look particularly surprised. If he seemed overly shocked, it would’ve been an insult to Aaron’s intelligence.

Yang Yi spoke calmly: "Does it even matter? I said I’d prove my sincerity to you, yet you pull something like this—it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth."

Aaron smiled as well: "It was just a personality test. I don’t trust people who are overly cold-hearted—they’re impossible for me to rely on. You’ve passed the personality test, but I still haven’t seen your sincerity."

Yang Yi glanced at Bonnie. "What happens to her?" he asked.

Aaron thought long and hard, and finally said gravely, "We don’t have to kill her."

Yang Yi responded without hesitation: "Not an option. She’s my person—no, she’s my woman. She will remain mine. Her prior identity or rank within the Cleaners, whatever she did before, none of it matters anymore and has nothing to do with you!"

Aaron shook his head: "You know that’s impossible. My bottom line is letting her go after finding out what she knows."

Raising his right hand impatiently, Yang Yi said, "I know you’re trying to negotiate, to force me to pay a higher price. But it’s pointless. Right now, I don’t want anything from you—nothing. Honestly, I’m not even worried about you killing me afterward. All I care about now is making the Cleaners pay. So here’s my condition: my only condition, which will not change, nor will I compromise—it’s Bonnie."

Yang Yi stared at Aaron, and Aaron stared back at Yang Yi.

After a long contemplation, Aaron finally nodded and said, "I agree. I have the authority to make this decision, so rest assured—Bonnie will never face any trouble in the future!"

Aaron agreed. Now it was Yang Yi’s turn to prove his sincerity.

Everything discussed before, every test, hinged on how far Yang Yi was willing to go.

Yang Yi took a deep breath, then spoke slowly: "How long was I unconscious?"

"Fifty hours."

Yang Yi paused for a moment of thought. "Fifty hours... That’s a bit too long. But the person from the Cleaners in charge of contacting me will surely be waiting for my report. Even if there’s a possibility I’ve defected, he’ll still wait for my news."

Aaron nodded: "Understandable. You want to lure him out?"

"Exactly—to lure my contact out. He’s the one responsible for liaising with S-level clients. His position is high, his role critical. Through him, you could even reach the top tiers of the Cleaners!"

Aaron extended his hand to stop him: "Wait. Have you ever seen the higher-ups of the Cleaners?"

Without pause, Yang Yi replied, "Yes, of course. Twice, in total."

"What was their position?"

"Members of the Elder Council. One of the United States heads. There are two heads in the United States."

Aaron’s expression instantly turned serious. He gestured to Keaton, summoning him, then fixed his gaze on Yang Yi: "Your memory’s solid. Describe his physical characteristics."

Yang Yi exclaimed urgently: "No! It’s meaningless. Every time I saw him, he used disguises. Listen to me—stop thinking about targeting the higher-ups. What you need... No, what we need to do is launch a full-scale attack right now. Sever the Cleaners’ reach in the United States and Europe. I know a lot of details."

Aaron nodded: "Go on."

"I’ll contact Elvin—my liaison. It’s been too long now, and I’m unsure whether he’ll come personally or send someone to probe me first. If I’d only been unconscious for five hours, it would’ve been easier..."

Yang Yi looked slightly regretful. Aaron, in turn, reassured him: "There’s no other way—it was unavoidable. Your situation was extremely dangerous at the time. If we can fish out your liaison, that’d be ideal. If not, we’ll still gain something."

Yang Yi muttered softly: "Before meeting Elvin, you’ll need to launch a full-scale operation. How much prep time do you need? Once I meet Elvin, I might not get another chance. Your operation must be swift—time will be tight!"

Aaron appeared visibly stirred, though he tried his best to suppress his emotion.

"How much intel can you provide?"

Yang Yi looked at Aaron and then answered in a low voice, "Some are just leads, but others—I know the detailed situations of several Cleaners’ branches. Let me tell you this: you’ve hit the jackpot. Truly, once I hand over the intelligence, you’ll understand just how much of a treasure trove my mind holds!"
