Chapter 1193: Chapter 1198: The Person Hiding Behind the Scenes

In New York, Yang Yi and his team really didn’t follow Tyler.

Logically speaking, giving up on tailing Tyler at this moment would make it very easy to lose the lead, but the thing is, Yang Yi and his team now had the support of the upper echelons of the Clean-Up Crew. It was as if they had gained a god’s-eye view, so how could they possibly worry about losing track of someone?

The only thing Yang Yi needed to do was to wait for news from Bonnie.

So Yang Yi even had time to stay home and accompany Petra.

Just as Yang Yi and Petra were having an intimate moment, his phone rang. After answering, Bonnie’s voice came through, steady but serious: "Boss, there’s something to do now."

Yang Yi replied casually, "What is it? Go ahead."

"Tyler is heading to Mexico City to meet with Gong Yang. We know Gong Yang is on that flight. Should we take the same flight as him?"

Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "Not necessary, I’ll handle it."

After hanging up, Yang Yi apologized to Petra with a slightly guilty look. "Looks like I have to head out again."

Petra looked visibly disappointed. She hesitated but ultimately only nodded her head.

Yang Yi embraced Petra and said softly, "This time it’s really not convenient to bring you along. Next time, when there’s a good opportunity, I’ll definitely take you with me—whether it’s for work or leisure, okay?"

"Alright, come back soon."

Yang Yi smiled, kissed Petra on the cheek, picked up his jacket, and left the house.

Driving to Anton’s safehouse, Yang Yi hurriedly asked as soon as he arrived, "What’s the situation?"

Bonnie replied with a calm expression, "Under our deliberate guidance, those in charge of protecting Gong Yang believe that Tyler is very dangerous and want to kill him to silence him. But Gong Yang disagreed, so they had to figure out a relatively secure way to neutralize the threat. Meeting Tyler in the United States was too risky, so they decided to meet in Mexico. Furthermore, Gong Yang will definitely be going to Mexico City."

"But isn’t Mexico essentially the CIA’s backyard?"

Yang Yi realized he misspoke as soon as the words came out. Mexico was the United States’ backyard, but New York was practically the CIA’s living room.

"Hmm. They’re meeting in Mexico. Does the Clean-Up Crew have any specific plans?"

Yang Yi asked Bonnie this second question, but she shook her head and replied, "I don’t know. The finer details are determined by those responsible for Gong Yang. Our limit is being able to track their movements. As for the specifics, we have no way to know."

There wasn’t much to deliberate. Yang Yi nodded and said, "We’ll head to Mexico. Have Aaron send in reinforcements. That way, we won’t need to get too close to Gong Yang ourselves."

Bonnie said in a serious tone, "The good news is, Gong Yang will be going alone, without anyone else."

Yang Yi immediately perked up, but Anton raised an eyebrow with a smile and said, "No Black Devil? That’s great—less pressure for us."

Bonnie glanced at Anton and then said coolly, "But the Clean-Up Crew is deploying far more people than usual to protect Gong Yang, an S-class client, covertly."

Yang Yi felt a bit tense. If they were to break ties with the Clean-Up Crew, they would inevitably need a solid excuse. Falling out with Gong Yang was straightforward, but turning it into a life-or-death feud would involve sacrifices.

As Elvin put it, sacrifices were the cost.

Yang Yi debated whether to involve Pandora Box, but he quickly dismissed the idea. The next steps would involve a direct confrontation with Aaron—on a psychological level, of course. It was certainly not the right time to bring Pandora Box into play.

"We need a scapegoat—one that can cause the Clean-Up Crew enough... loss without making us pay too high a price ourselves."

Yang Yi quickly made his decision.

But Anton simply smiled faintly and let out a soft breath.

Perhaps Anton also thought it wouldn’t be so simple. Yet Yang Yi couldn’t possibly make this drama convincing by sacrificing someone to die at the hands of the Clean-Up Crew.

"I’ll call Aaron. You get ready. We’ll head to Mexico City first and wait."

Anton raised a hand and said, "Wait. Don’t rush to make the call. Don’t forget one thing: if we notify Aaron now, the CIA might send a large team to the airport, and we have no idea how Gong Yang and Tyler plan to meet. What if they meet brazenly at the airport?"

Bonnie said indifferently, "If that happens, Gong Yang gets exposed. Don’t forget Elvin’s directive: do our best not to drag Gong Yang into this."

Yang Yi glanced at Anton and said, "We’ll try our best to avoid exposing Gong Yang, but... only try."

Bonnie spoke in a low voice, "But you’re not doing your best right now. Sorry, you might not understand the importance of an S-class client to us."

Bonnie, after all, wasn’t part of the Organization of Water. Her priority had to be the Clean-Up Crew’s interests.

Yang Yi exhaled lightly and said, "Alright, let’s head to Mexico City first. Once there, we’ll have Aaron send reinforcements."

Bonnie remained silent, while Yang Yi thought for a moment before saying, "We’d better bring weapons, just in case. I’ll make arrangements for the plane."

Xiao Ran stood up and said, "Bring bulletproof vests. Regardless of whether we use them or not, bring them."

Yang Yi rarely wore bulletproof vests; after all, he wasn’t someone who frequently engaged in direct combat. No, more accurately, the kind of combat he engaged in didn’t require bulletproof vests.

But since Xiao Ran insisted, Yang Yi decided to bring one along.

Yang Yi personally packed his belongings, finally bringing along the rifle he hadn’t used in ages, as well as the bulletproof vest he never had the chance to wear.

You couldn’t always hide in the shadows. When the moment came to step up, having a bulletproof vest brought a certain peace of mind.

Of course, Yang Yi’s go-to weapon was still his knife, along with a few small gadgets he didn’t frequently use but always carried with him.

Here’s an important fact: while spy gear in movies seems futuristic and capable of miraculous feats, in reality, the tools spies use are even more advanced than what’s shown in movies—at least ten years ahead in technology.

Reality is more exaggerated and unbelievable than fiction, but only within the realm of intelligence agencies.

It was just four of them, and with Bonnie being largely an outsider who wouldn’t participate in the main action, that left only Yang Yi and the other two. Even so, they could become the fuse that would change the history of the underground world.

Some wars are invisible but even more brutal.

In that moment before leaving, Yang Yi was filled with a sense of historical mission. He took a deep breath and was just about to push open the door when Xiao Ran suddenly said from behind him, "Don’t move."

Yang Yi paused. Xiao Ran stepped forward, reached out, and plucked a long strand of hair off Yang Yi’s back. She then said softly, "Alright, let’s go."
