Chapter 1112: Chapter 1117: Once Again
"The plan failed, Sea God didn’t chase after me; he realized it was a trap."
Cupid spoke calmly, his heart even calmer, but Nicholas urgently said through the walkie-talkie, "Failed? Didn’t you say it would definitely succeed? Why did it fail? Or was the plan never successful to begin with?"
"It was partially successful. Sea God indeed discovered me, and he attempted to intercept me. If I had intended to take him out from behind, I would certainly have met him face to face. But while he did come, he didn’t appear where I had anticipated, so the plan failed."
"Tell me what to do now! That’s all I care about!"
Cupid promptly said, "Have your men kill him. He’s right here, and you have many men. Launch a forceful attack and kill him-forcefully."
"Don’t you see? This guy has a lot of snipers, he has many good gunmen, and my men have suffered heavy casualties. Those bastards are too scared to move forward. Buddy, they’re here to make money, not to die! And I haven’t even surrounded Sea God yet. Even if I truly sent people to attack and somehow succeeded, Sea God would still escape, you know that!"
Cupid responded indifferently, "He won’t escape, not if you’re here. He probably wouldn’t run. You have a lot of rocket-propelled grenades. Why not use them?"
"Of course I’ll use them, but the problem now is that we can’t determine the enemy gunmen’s positions. What’s the point in using them if we’re not sure?"
Cupid continued indifferently, "There’s another way. Allow Sea God to track your position, giving him an opportunity to shoot at you, but only from a position where he has to change location to take the shot."
Nicholas’s voice turned colder, he said flatly, "I understand, but I won’t do that. Now that you’ve failed, I should call my people back. Let’s call it quits."
Cupid responded solemnly, "Hold on a second, I’ve studied the terrain nearby. I know a spot that seems absolutely safe but actually offers a chance for a shot. If the enemy has studied the terrain here, they would know this vulnerability. If they haven’t studied the local terrain, then they wouldn’t exploit it."
"How is that different from gambling? And the stake is my life. Enough, I won’t take personal risks anymore."
"Hear me out, do you want to take one last shot, or do you want to give up? You call this gambling, but I don’t think so. Gambling relies on luck, but those who truly win money rely on skill. Right now we’re setting a trap for Sea God. Do you really think you’ll give him the chance to shoot you?"
Nicholas fell silent, and Cupid continued indifferently, "There’s only one place from which he can shoot. We should send people there to wait. As soon as Sea God shows up, take him out without giving him a chance to shoot."
Nicholas remained silent, and Cupid didn’t speak either. After a while, Nicholas said through the walkie-talkie, "I’ll trust you one more time. I’ll lead him over."
Cupid smiled and then said indifferently, "Smart choice. I’ll arrange the gunmen and then tell you the exact location."
The conversation ended. Cupid let out a sigh of relief and quickly walked to someone lying on the roof, whispering, "Follow me."
Cupid didn’t carry a gun. Two men followed behind him, and the three moved silently to a spot. Then Cupid pointed to the rooftop of a two-story building, saying, "Stay on top. If Sea God shows up later, don’t hesitate, shoot to kill immediately. Everyone else is irrelevant; your only target is Sea God."
After that, Cupid walked away quietly on his own and then entered a dark shrubbery.
A box was hidden amongst the shrubs, which Cupid opened and took out two guns from inside.
One was an HK-416 rifle, the other an HK417. After placing both guns in front of him, Cupid lay down on the ground.
Cupid didn’t like using guns, but he wasn’t averse to them when necessary.
Sacrifice his life to complete a mission? What a joke. Cupid wasn’t that kind of person. He preferred to give everything to complete a mission but never at all costs.
So using himself as bait was real, but Cupid would never consider himself as bait that was sure to die.
It would be good if Sea God fell for it, but if not, Cupid would have to keep using Nicholas as the bait.
It all depended on how greedy Sea God was. If he was greedy enough not to pass up an opportunity, Cupid was confident he could take out Sea God.
In Cupid’s mind, this setup was impossible to decipher.
Indeed, the plan was a bet, simply betting on whether Sea God’s instincts were sharp enough.
If Sea God’s instincts were as sharp as he expected, then Cupid could guarantee Sea God wouldn’t miss the chance. But if Sea God failed to seize the opportunity, then Cupid’s plan would fall through. So it was a trap based on how formidable the enemy was.
If Sea God was formidable enough, the trap would work. If not, Cupid would have waited in vain.
Cupid was ready, so he whispered through the walkie-talkie, "I’m ready. Now, you need to go back to your men and urge them to attack, disregarding casualties. They must attack at all costs. Then, you’ll retreat to that safe spot to hide."
Nicholas let out a soft sigh, then said in a deep voice, "I’m betting on this. I hope you won’t disappoint me this time. Also, remember, you’re risking your employer’s life to cooperate with your mission."
Cupid answered indifferently, "Don’t pay the final installment. Completing this trade is enough for me."
"Good, remember your promise."
Nicholas ended the conversation, took a deep breath, and then said to the driver in front, "Go back, tell those guys to buck up and attack for me. Fuck! So many people, and they can’t handle just a few? What’s the use of paying them so much!"
"Boss, are we really doing this? It’s too dangerous. Sea God’s team is all snipers."
"They don’t have missiles, they only have guns, and this car is bulletproof! Drive over!"
The sedan once again entered the danger zone because it was within range of Yang Yi and his team’s sniper rifles, hence the danger.
Nicholas lowered the car window a crack, and then he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Move in for the attack! Surround them, kill them. A few people have scared you to this? Kill them. Listen up, if you take down Sea God, I’ll give you a fifty million US Dollar reward, on the spot!"
