Chapter 1061: Chapter 166: Not a Sworn Warrior

Assassins come in many varieties.

Some are willing to go to any length to complete their mission, readily sacrificing their own lives just to kill the target. The moment they strike, they fulfill their task but at the cost of their own lives. This type of assassin is known as a death wish assassin.

Professional killers are different. As professionals, their trade is to make money by killing people; killing is a means, while making money is the goal.

Since it’s about making money, professional killers naturally avoid situations where they might earn but not live to spend. They would not accept missions with certain death, nor would they strike without ensuring a safe escape afterward.

Killing the target while preserving their own safety is the professional killer’s style. Staking their own life just to assassinate a target is definitely not something a professional killer would do.

That’s why Yang Yi has not encountered any assassination attempts these past days, nor has he even sensed danger. It’s very possible that the killer hasn’t found the perfect opportunity yet.

What kind of opportunity? Naturally, one where he can kill Yang Yi and then escape safely.

The killer hasn’t found the opportunity, so Yang Yi deliberately creates one for him.

In the morning, Yang Yi left the house, Petra’s place—now also his—and found a fast-food restaurant nearby with a large flow of customers, where most of the staff were part-timers. If the killer were to make a move, this would be a good spot.

Yang Yi ate a burger while Petra also held one, but her brow was slightly furrowed.

"Dear, eating this kind of food in the morning isn’t good for the body, and more importantly, it’s easy to gain weight."

Petra ultimately couldn’t bring herself to eat the burger, her upbringing and environment had allowed her to accept this kind of food, but not the high-calorie burgers from a fast-food restaurant.

"Ugh, I’m just used to it. Do you not like it? It’s okay, I can go with you to eat something else after I’m done."

Petra hesitated, then took a bite of the burger and nodded, "Not bad."

Yang Yi wiped Petra’s mouth with a napkin, then smiled and said, "As long as you like it. The burgers here are good, I’ve decided to come here every morning."

"Uh, is that necessary? I can make you breakfast."

"Can you?"

"I can learn."

"Alright, but before you learn, I’ll still come here. Uh, do you have work today?"

"I don’t feel like going."

"Okay, I have some things to handle, just go home and wait for me."

Yang Yi was becoming more and more accustomed to whispering sweet nothings to Petra. At the start, he felt a bit of a struggle inside, but now, he could no longer distinguish whether these words were intentional or purely subconscious reactions.

After finishing breakfast and sending Petra back home alone, Yang Yi picked up Anton in Petra’s car.

Driving Anton to the hotel where Bonnie was being sheltered, Yang Yi whispered, "I think the killer might have realized your existence."

Anton whispered back, "Yes, we’ve been in contact quite frequently these days. If someone is secretly watching, my presence won’t go unnoticed."

"As long as you’re here, I think the killer won’t make a move easily. He should have the basic judgment to know that you’re skilled."

Anton spoke solemnly, "You want me to leave?"

"Yes, and it’s not just about keeping a distance. I think you should take a long trip, or at least stay at a distance where you absolutely can’t provide immediate assistance. Let the killer track your movements and know where you are. Only when he feels you’re far enough away from me, he might consider striking."

Anton looked at Yang Yi, "Of course, I understand this, but can you handle it alone?"

"You’re underestimating my ability."

"I’m not underestimating you. But a killer won’t warn you before striking. You could be silently killed. Even if you’re confident in your ability, what’s the point if you can’t use it?"

Yang Yi sighed, "We have to take this risk. I can’t always have a killer by my side. At least I want to force him into the open."

"I disagree. This is suicide."

Yang Yi shrugged, "Trust me, trust my judgment."

"What’s the use of judgment when someone shoots you in the back of the head?"

After a moment of thought, Yang Yi said, "It’s dangerous, but do you really think this killer is the type to kill with a gunshot?"

Anton hesitated, then responded, "Most of the killers I know don’t like to use guns. It’s a matter of habit because guns have too many limitations. They’d rather use knives than guns, and if possible, they’ll use any means that doesn’t easily alert others, not guns or knives."

"Do I need to say more? If someone shoots me from dozens of meters behind, I indeed can’t defend. But since few professional killers use this method, the risk is worth taking."

Anton fell silent for a moment, then said, "What do you want me to do? Do you have a plan?"

"Yes, protect Bonnie. They’re planning to set a trap for me using Bonnie. Satisfy them, but it will be you instead of me. Protect Bonnie these next few days, and you should be able to fool the killer."

Anton thought for a moment, then agreed, "Okay."

"I think within three days is the best timing for the killer to act. I will keep going to the same restaurant. After a while, I’ll be familiar enough with the place to recognize even new staff members, and if it is too soon, the killer won’t have time to set up, so the day after tomorrow will be the best opportunity for him to strike."

"Are you sure you don’t need me nearby for protection?"

"Yes, I have it all figured out."

Nothing more to say, Yang Yi took Anton to the hotel where Bonnie was, and then went up to knock on Bonnie’s door himself.

Bonnie opened the door; she seemed very happy, but once inside, her expression turned somewhat dim.

Yang Yi adjusted his tie, then sat on the sofa casually and said, "I just came from Petra’s place, told her I’m going for a business talk."

Bonnie just nodded, "Okay."

Yang Yi turned to glance at Bonnie, sensing that her expression was unnatural. After careful analysis, he figured Bonnie was probably feeling jealous.

There’s nothing to be done about jealousy; truly, there’s no solution.

"There’s a killer trying to take me out, hired by Nicholas, no information on him. Could you please help me investigate?"

Bonnie was moved, "A killer?"

"Yes, a killer."

Without hesitation, Bonnie said, "I’ll help you inquire right away."

Yang Yi smiled, "Aaron said it’s an extraordinary killer, but he also said he didn’t know who the killer is. I can’t tell if he really knows, but if it’s an extraordinary killer, he should be famous, so, I think something should turn up. I’m counting on you."
