Chapter 1040: Chapter 1045: The Sixth Sense
There have been too many UFO sightings from ancient times to the present, so much so that even Su Shi, a great poet of the Song dynasty, had an experience of witnessing UFOs. He even wrote a poem about it.
"At that moment, the newfound moon’s glow faintly lit up the sky,
In the second watch, the moon set and the sky turned pitch black.
It seemed as if torches glowed bright on the river,
Flying flames startled perched birds by the mountains, casting their light.
With a heavy heart, I returned to my bed, my mind unable to discern,
Neither ghost nor human, what on earth could it be?
If the landscape isn’t inviting, don’t return to the mountains,
The river god shows me wonders, warning against my obstinance."
Of course, Yang Yi could recite this poem about You Jinshan Temple, but he wasn’t interested in aliens and unidentified flying objects.
Why? Because even though there have been stories of aliens for so many years, there hasn’t been any evidence of aliens doing anything to humans.
If it’s all false, all just rumors, then there’s no need to worry or to pay attention, right?
But Petra is interested, especially since Aaron actually brought out archives from the KGB, which means they are paying attention.
Petra’s thoughts aren’t important, but although Aaron helped forge some so-called evidence, it doesn’t mean that he’s interested in aliens. Maybe those archives eventually ended up in the CIA’s database, and were casually taken out to be used.
But, is this really just a coincidence?
Subconsciously, Yang Yi always felt that the emergence of these photos was a little too coincidental, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what was wrong.
What else could he do? He had to put it aside for now.
Setting his doubts aside, Yang Yi continued to prepare for his next meeting with Petra, needing a change of clothes which required shopping, but thankfully this time, he only needed clothes, which was relatively simple.
Since he was going to buy clothes, of course, he had to bring Bonnie along. There was no special reason, it’s just that since Yang Yi had this beauty by his side, it would seem very unreasonable to ignore her.
Moreover, having a beauty with you while shopping goes along with the image Yang Yi currently portrays.
Yang Yi drove to pick up Bonnie himself, he didn’t go to her house, just made a phone call.
When Bonnie got in the car, Yang Yi felt something was off with her gaze, and she also made a very subtle gesture.
"Speak, what’s wrong?"
Bonnie whispered, "Someone is investigating me."
Yang Yi thought for a moment, then whispered, "What aspects are they investigating?"
"My family background, and also... I feel like I’m being followed, but it’s just a feeling, I have no proof."
Yang Yi frowned and said, "Followed? That’s serious. Didn’t you notice anything?"
Bonnie whispered, "I have no security personnel around me at all. If someone is secretly protecting or surveilling, don’t you think the risk of exposure is too high?"
Yang Yi sighed, "Is your intuition accurate?"
"I don’t know, this is the first time I’ve felt like I’m being monitored."
Without any evidence, just a feeling or intuition, Yang Yi would never dismiss Bonnie’s words. The right choice is to treat these ethereal feelings as realities, which is the attitude a spy should have after all; they’re not in a horror movie.
"People say a woman’s intuition is accurate, so let’s assume your feeling is correct. If someone is monitoring you, then what do they want to find from you? Logically, your identity and background are impeccable, but if they still doubt you, then the issue is serious."
Bonnie said gravely, "Yes, it is very serious. I have already reported this to the higher-ups."
"What did they say?"
"Continue observing, be careful."
If they arranged for someone to protect Bonnie or to counter-surveil, it’s indeed possible that it would expose vulnerabilities from the higher-ups. But the "cleaners’" response was also too nonchalant. Be careful – that’s just saying she won’t get any help from the cleaners, isn’t it?
But there’s no need for excessive anxiety right now. After all, even if someone is monitoring Bonnie, it’s not worth making a big fuss, as long as Bonnie herself doesn’t slip up.
"So... just be careful, you know how to handle it, right?"
Yang Yi looked at Bonnie, and she nodded, "Of course."
Yang Yi sighed, "I’m going to a party, a cocktail event. I still don’t know the identities of the other attendees, but I need to catch a woman’s attention and have her develop a greater fondness for me. So, do you have any suggestions for my outfit?"
Without looking at Yang Yi, Bonnie softly said, "Everyone has their taste. If you want my advice, I can only choose clothes for you based on what most young women would appreciate."
"A banker’s daughter, Petra Roy."
"I get it. Then I should dress a bit younger."
With nothing more to say, Yang Yi stopped talking to Bonnie, as he didn’t know what to say.
He shopped for clothes with Bonnie and, quite ungentlemanly, let Bonnie go back by herself. He returned to the hotel with his newly bought clothes, and just as he arrived, he received a call from Petra.
It wasn’t strange for Petra to call. She needed to formally extend an invitation to Yang Yi, at least to clarify the time and place.
"Hello, I’m Petra. I hope this call isn’t disturbing you."
Yang Yi wasn’t too enthusiastic, but he smiled, "Oh, of course not. I’m very happy to receive your call."
Petra said softly, "My father has invited some friends for a get-together at our house in Long Island. It’s just a small cocktail party, tomorrow evening at seven. I hope you can honor us with your presence."
It was very clear from Petra’s words that it was her father’s cocktail party, not her own. The biggest possibility was that Petra really wanted to see the so-called evidence Yang Yi had, but didn’t want to meet him privately. Thus, using her father’s cocktail party as an opportunity to meet was very suitable.
Yang Yi immediately said, "Of course, I will definitely come tomorrow."
Petra seemed very happy and said, "That’s great. I’ll send you the detailed address via text message. So we’ll see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
After hanging up, Yang Yi knocked on Ferguson’s door, and waited for him to open it. Holding his clothes, he whispered, "You guessed right, tomorrow’s cocktail party is hosted by Petra’s father. I think there’s a good chance I could be alone with Petra."
Ferguson laughed and said, "As expected, it seems you have a great opportunity tomorrow. Oh, Ms. Bonnie didn’t come back with you?"
Yang Yi dismissively said, "At this critical moment, how could I let her come? Please, she’s just for fun during my downtime, did you really think I can’t do without her? I need to start getting ready. Hand me the perfume, would you?"
