Chapter 104: Chapter 103: Strength is More Important
Playing mysterious is easy, but without corresponding strength, it is very easy to be exposed, and then one will face deserved consequences.
But Yang Yi certainly had the credentials to play mysterious because as soon as he arrived, he killed the Boxing King. He also spent seven days in solitary confinement without a hitch, and now, he had taken down seventeen people by himself.
So, of course, Yang Yi had the credentials to be enigmatic, and others had no choice but to believe him.
"Boss, I think it’s best you don’t know what I’m here for. I’ll leave once I’ve done what I need to do, so how about we keep things as they are now, what do you think?"
Owen’s face looked awful, but when he spoke, he was more polite to Yang Yi.
"Who do you want to kill? Gang revenge? Or are you being paid to do a job for someone?"
"No, no, no, you’ve got it all wrong. I’m not killing anyone. Well, sometimes accidents are unavoidable, but I promise the thing with the Boxing King won’t happen again."
Owen thought for a long time, then suddenly said, "Raymond sent you in here, he broke the rules."
Yang Yi said helplessly, "He didn’t know. Trust me, he really didn’t know. Believe it or not, but he didn’t know who I am. In fact, none of you know who I am."
Owen’s face grew even worse. Yang Yi twisted his neck and then said with a nonchalant tone, "See, none of you know who I really am, but I know you. Oh, not now, but I know your name is Owen, isn’t that enough?"
Owen lowered his voice and said, "You’re threatening me!"
Yang Yi looked innocent and said, "What are you talking about, man? If I were threatening you, I would tell you what your wife’s name is, where you live, what your children are called, do you have children? So of course this is not a threat, because I haven’t investigated you at all. Doesn’t that show my sincerity? Actually, there’s no need for me to do that, right?"
Owen said nothing, and Yang Yi continued with exasperation, "Hey, buddy, I was talking about money, it was you who changed the subject, so how about we get back on track?"
Owen sighed, then suddenly said, "One hundred thousand, one hundred thousand US dollars is a nice number."
Yang Yi let out a wry smile and said, "Oh man, being too greedy isn’t good."
Owen said sternly, "This time it was a fight between inmates. Some people got hurt, but it’s not serious, and such things are common, but what about next time?"
Yang Yi asked with interest, "What do you mean?"
Owen looked very calm and said, "I don’t care what you’re here to do, maybe you really are here to kill someone, but I’m transferring out in a year."
"Oh?"
"During this nearly one year, you can do whatever you want."
"Oh, that sounds nice."
"But you can’t kill anyone. If someone dies, I can’t cover it up, and it would be hard to explain to the warden, and it’s best if there are no serious injuries either."
"That... shouldn’t be a problem."
Owen sighed, then said in a deep voice, "So one hundred thousand US dollars is a good number, don’t you think? I won’t extend your sentence, nor will I hand you over to the Justice Department. You do your thing in prison, just don’t cross the red lines I draw. How about it?"
Yang Yi said without hesitation, "The only requirement is that I want to have a phone brought in for me, and you can’t block it."
Owen said expressionlessly, "There are plenty of phones, I can give you one right now."
"No, I can only use my own phone, which shouldn’t be a problem for you. That is my only requirement. Okay, we have a deal."
Owen stood up without hesitation and said, "Deal."
Yang Yi smiled and replied, "I’ll get the phone, and you’ll have the money within a week. I hope you have a secure account to receive it."
Owen nodded, then said in a low voice, "This time you’re in solitary confinement for three days. That’s not a problem, right?"
"What? Solitary confinement again?"
Owen spread his hands and explained, "I can’t break the rules, I can’t disrupt the ecological balance of the prison. If I break the rules, it would be difficult for me. You need to understand that you’re not the only person with power in this prison. You shouldn’t feel anything about three days in solitary confinement, and this is the lightest punishment I can give."
"Alright, I respect your rules. So be it. I’ll stay in solitary for three days. After I get out, I will make a call. How do I let you know when I’m ready?"
Owen thought for a moment and said, "Tell the guards you’re feeling unwell, and they’ll take you to the infirmary."
"Good, it’s settled then."
Watching Yang Yi still smiling, Owen sighed and then walked over to open the door, saying angrily, "Take him to solitary confinement, three days!"
Yang Yi wasn’t afraid of seven days in solitary, let alone three.
Besides, now Yang Yi exercised every day. Prisoners could work out anywhere, so he wasn’t worried about having nothing to do. However, being locked in the cramped solitary cell was always unpleasant, especially when he could only have one meal a day—that was the most painful part.
Returning to the familiar place, Yang Yi worked out for a while, thinking he would have to go hungry tonight. But to his surprise, just as it was getting dark, a guard knocked on the iron door and called out loudly, "3387, time to eat!"
The small window on the door opened, and a plate was passed through. Yang Yi was delighted to find not only that he had dinner but also that it was more lavish than usual.
Although it was still prisoner’s food, the quantity was much larger and the quality much higher. After he had cheerfully finished his dinner, he politely asked the guard to take the plate back. As the guard was collecting the plate, he suddenly lowered his voice and asked, "Want a book?"
"Hm? What?"
"Do you want Playboy?"
Despite asking Yang Yi if he wanted it, two rolled-up magazines had already been pushed through the small window. Most considerately, the light on the ceiling of the solitary cell, which was almost never turned on, was now lit.
Yang Yi felt incredibly fortunate, truly fortunate.
It turned out that money really could make things happen.
Looking at the cover girl on the magazine, Yang Yi walked over to the iron door, knocked on it, and the small window opened quickly. The guard whispered, "What is it?"
Yang Yi said with a smile, "Nothing, just wanted to say thank you."
The guard chuckled and replied, "Don’t mention it. You deserve special treatment. Just make sure you don’t tell anyone else and especially don’t let our boss know. I believe you’ll keep this a secret for me, right?"
Yang Yi was taken aback, as he had thought all this was arranged by Owen, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.
"Oh, of course, how could I possibly betray you? Rest assured, buddy. I’ll find a way to thank you when I’m out. Thanks, mate."
The guard laughed, "I’ll be on duty tomorrow. I’ll get you a soft mat so it won’t be so uncomfortable to sleep. I wasn’t prepared today, so you’ll have to put up with it for one night. My shift is almost over, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
After the guard had closed the small window, Yang Yi sat down on the floor with the magazines and suddenly felt that although money was important and indeed could make things happen, perhaps strength was even more significant.
