Chapter 103: Chapter 102: Turns Out I’m Quite the Fighter
Yi suddenly spotted the knife, and indeed he was startled, but his movements didn’t slow down.
Striking more quickly than his opponent could react, before the man in front of him could stab with the knife, Yi had already landed a punch on the black inmate’s eye, then he launched a kick to the man’s knee. As the man leaned forward, Yi brutally punched him again in the temple.
With a flurry of sounds, Yi fought while retreating, taking down anyone he encountered without even knowing how many he had laid out, until he realized that suddenly there was no one in front of him—all the attackers were down on the ground.
Fighting for real was much more exhausting than training. Yi’s physical condition couldn’t be said to be particularly strong, but definitely not weak; yet he was now panting heavily, unable to catch his breath.
Every day, Yi was badly tormented during sparring sessions with Zhang Yong, and he didn’t know his own strength. But now, looking at the black inmates lying on the ground, writhing in pain, Yi was stunned.
There had to be at least over ten people on the ground, Yi was shocked at himself.
"Damn! Am I really this good at fighting?"
Just as he exclaimed in surprise, Yi felt a sudden, severe pain in his back, but when he turned around, there was no one there.
And just as Yi turned around, he felt another sharp pain in his chest, followed by his leg, causing him to involuntarily fall to the ground.
"Get down! Don’t move! You want a bullet, huh? Want to taste lead? I’ll shoot anyone who moves!"
A guard shouted frantically from an elevated position beside the cafeteria, aiming his gun, along with his partner, at Yi.
This was a prison, Pelican Bay Prison to be exact, and the section for inmates with severe sentences. If there was any commotion, the guards wouldn’t hesitate to shoot.
Of course, the guards would first use rubber bullets as a warning, not live ammunition. Otherwise, Yi would already be dead.
Even though they were rubber bullets, getting hit by them was truly painful, excruciatingly so.
It’s said that being hit by a rubber bullet hurts even more than a real bullet because rubber bullets can’t penetrate the skin. Therefore, all the kinetic energy is absorbed by the skin, making the pain more intense than a gunshot wound from a real bullet.
Yi was in so much pain he wanted to roll around, but the guards had already warned and fired shots. Any further movement could mean getting hit by more rubber bullets, so, in spite of the pain, Yi dared not move.
The black inmates continued to howl in pain. One of them, supporting his right arm with his left hand, yelled, "Doctor! Doctor! Take me to the doctor! My arm’s broken! My arm’s broken, ah! It’s killing me!"
A bunch of guards with shields and batons charged over, but they really didn’t need to control the situation anymore since the fight had ended.
But the first guard to arrive started hitting Yi aimlessly on the back and thighs.
"Stop it! Stop, enough already!"
Yi was capable of taking down the guards without any effort before being hit by the rubber bullets, but he wouldn’t dare to fight back now, as this was in prison.
No matter how tough or vicious you are, you only use that against other inmates. To attack a guard would truly be the end of you.
Yi was supposed to receive a good beating, as he was the one who had started it after all. However, a loud cry from him instinctively made the beating guard actually stop.
Fuming with anger and urgency while looking at Yi lying at his feet, the guard exhaled sharply and then shouted loudly, "Take them all away, take everyone away!"
After more than four months, Yi saw Owen again.
Yang Yi had been waiting for quite a while, at least two hours, during which time two prison guards kept watch over him. Although their gazes were truly unfriendly, they neither hit nor cursed him.
Yang Yi found this surprising; why weren’t the guards roughing him up?
It wasn’t that Yang Yi was itching for a beating, but in prison, any inmate who dared to stir up trouble usually got a thorough beating, so the fact he got off with just a few shoves was very abnormal indeed.
Finally, Owen arrived, his face seething with rage.
"Cuff him to the chair, and you two, get out!"
Owen looked extremely displeased, with anger slowly etching itself across his face.
"I warned you not to make trouble for me! Fuck! Do you really think this is a place where you can do whatever you want? Then you’re wrong! Wrong!"
Owen couldn’t wait to start berating Yang Yi. He walked up to Yang Yi, his face fierce, and said, "Seventeen people, all injured, two with broken arms, two with broken nasal bones, and another four dislocated, you think you can fight, huh? You think you’re tough?"
Yang Yi smiled apologetically and said, "I think twenty thousand US dollars is a nice number, don’t you?"
Owen was taken aback, then quickly put on a stern face and said in a low voice, "You’re planning to... no, that won’t work!"
Yang Yi looked around and then whispered, "It’s just the two of us here. I think a small disagreement among inmates, a very common conflict, such things are quite normal, right?"
Owen’s complexion grew ugly, but he did not bellow again.
"Normal? They need to go to the hospital! This kind of large-scale assault must be investigated, do you think..."
"Officer, do you think thirty thousand US dollars is a pleasant number? I quite like that number, what about you?"
Owen was taken aback again, then he stepped back, sat in his own chair and said with a solemn face, "I prefer the number fifty thousand."
Yang Yi smiled apologetically and said, "Thirty thousand, thirty thousand is good, it’s a very common fight, no one died, and there’s no serious injury, so thirty thousand is nice."
Owen, with a solemn face, said, "Thirty thousand, sounds pretty good, but I like my own thirty thousand, not someone else’s."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "An account number would be your liked thirty thousand."
"So when can I have my liked thirty thousand?"
"Well, I’ll make a call."
Owen exhaled and then looked at Yang Yi and said, "Why are you in here? If you can just pull out thirty thousand dollars like that, then you shouldn’t be in this prison."
Yang Yi smiled gently and said, "Of course, there’s a reason. I can take the chance to come in and still make money, which is better than committing a crime and then being convicted to get in, don’t you think?"
Owen, with a solemn face, said, "What are you really up to? Tell me, what do you want to do!"
Yang Yi thought Chris’s words made a lot of sense; he’d been so busy he had forgotten about Chris, but now that it was time to lie, he remembered the trick Chris had taught him.
Just treat the person you’re deceiving as an idiot.
