Chapter 87: No Girl on the Sofa
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: No Girl on the Sofa
In an instant, the light in An Yan’s eyes extinguished.
She felt as though her blood was flowing backward, her breathing rapid, and her heart seemed to be torn open, causing indescribable pain.
The man who had been whispering sweet nothings to her just a moment ago was now kissing another woman.
Enduring the sourness at the tip of her nose, An Yan turned around and left.
Unaware of all this, Fu Shiyan noticed Su Manxi’s approach, and he looked up at her with cold eyes.
Su Manxi hid her intentions very well, sitting up straight and smiling, "It’s cool and refreshing, what is this?"
"It’s a burn cream. Just apply it three times a day for a month, and your hand can be restored to its original state."
"Is it really that miraculous?" Su Manxi’s eyes sparkled, "Thank you, Shiyan."
"Don’t mention it. What would you like to eat? I’ll have Han Yang bring something back for you." Fu Shiyan screwed on the cap and put it on the table, tossing the cotton swab into the trash can.
Su Manxi shook her head, "I don’t feel like eating; I haven’t had much of an appetite lately."
Fu Shiyan spoke indifferently, "How would you like me to compensate you?"
Looking hurt, Su Manxi said, "Shiyan, I never thought about demanding compensation. I took that blow from the crutch willingly for you. After all these years of friendship, do you really think it should be measured in money?"
"I’m sorry, but this is the only way I can compensate you."
Su Manxi sniffed, "I want to open a design studio in Jiangcheng. If you really want to compensate me, then invest in it."
Fu Shiyan thought of An Yan wanting to go to Galaxy Design Studio, and since An Yan and the founder Su Yue were close friends, wouldn’t his investing in Su Manxi’s studio make them adversaries?
He declined, directly taking out a card from his wallet and placing it on the table, "There’s ten million in here, consider it compensation for your hand. I’m very sorry you were hurt."
Su Manxi could tell that Fu Shiyan was rejecting her on account of another woman.
Even now, with all her pains and twice using the ploy of self-injury, he remained so cold and ruthless.
It seemed she needed to thoroughly figure out how to use the last bit of sympathy Fu Shiyan had for her to its maximum, most damaging effect.
A pale Su Manxi squeezed out a faint smile, "I’ll take that as your investment."
Fearing what else Fu Shiyan might say, she quickly added, "Shiyan, could you help me lie down? I’m a bit tired."
Fu Shiyan nodded, stood up, flattened the pillow that was under her waist, and helped her lie down.
Su Manxi immediately closed her eyes, fearful that Fu Shiyan might say something more to reject her.
Fu Shiyan walked to the window, looking out at the street scene enveloped by twilight. He wondered if ’his little one’ had made any meals yet and casually sent a WeChat message.
"Have you eaten yet?"
After a long wait, An Yan did not reply.
Fu Shiyan thought that An Yan might be cooking or might have fallen asleep watching a movie. She would surely reply after seeing it.
Thinking of the girl’s soft and gentle demeanour, he couldn’t help but curve his lips into a smile.
Half an hour later, Su Bingcheng and his wife along with Han Yang returned to the ward.
Fu Shiyan explained the method of applying the ointment and things to watch out for before leaving.
Han Yang followed Fu Shiyan to the hospital entrance, his brows furrowed, "President Fu, I’m very sorry, I didn’t expect..."
Fu Shiyan gave him a cold look, "If there’s a next time, you can settle up with finance."
Han Yang watched as Fu Shiyan drove off, only then noticing the cold sweat on the tip of his nose.
Inside the ward.
Ailin looked at Su Manxi’s scarily burnt hand, "Manxi, you can’t keep hurting yourself to make Fu Shiyan come see you; it’s not a long-term plan."
Leaning against the headboard, Su Manxi looked coldly at her hand, "I saw An Yan earlier. She must have misunderstood that Shiyan and I were kissing."
Her lips curled into a pleased smile, "The biggest taboo for a couple is guessing, doubting, arguing, and then separation. Soon, I will get them to the third step."
...
Fu Shiyan drove to Moon Restaurant, picked up a bag of pastries, and hurried back to Bishui Bay.
After entering the passcode, he walked in and found the movie still playing on the screen, but the girl was nowhere to be seen on the sofa.
He set the pastries down on the coffee table, checked the kitchen, the rooms, and the bathroom, but there was no sign of An Yan.
He called out a few times for Yanyan, but no one responded.
Fu Shiyan dialed An Yan’s phone, but nobody answered.
He became anxious, fearing that An Yan had encountered the same issue as earlier that afternoon.
He deeply regretted listening to An Yan and not insisting on assigning her a bodyguard.
He anxiously returned to his car and drove around aimlessly.
Half an hour later, he pulled his car to the side of the road and called Si Heng.
The other party answered the call, his voice sounding somewhat weary, "Shiyan, what’s up?"
"Are Su Yue and An Yan together?"
"I just got off the operating table, I’m not sure, let me ask for you."
"Okay."
Fu Shiyan pressed his hand against his temples, then dialed Han Yang asking him to locate An Yan’s location.
Soon, Si Heng called back, "Shiyan, Su Yue didn’t answer her phone."
Fu Shiyan grunted, then abruptly ended the call.
His fingertips kept tapping on the steering wheel, his thoughts in turmoil, now he could only wait for Han Yang’s response.
But before he received a reply from Han Yang, he got a call from the police station saying An Yan and Su Yue were at a bar, targeted by a few thugs, and An Yan had beaten several thugs until their faces were swollen.
Twenty minutes later, Fu Shiyan strode into the police station while Si Heng and lawyer Song Chao also arrived and entered with him.
The interrogation room door opened, and An Yan and Su Yue looked up to see the three men standing at the doorway.
An Yan was startled at first, then turned to Su Yue, "Did you secretly notify them?"
Su Yue also looked bewildered and shook her head.
Fu Shiyan looked at An Yan, "Come here."
Su Yue nudged An Yan’s arm with her elbow, "Go, even if it’s a breakup, you should clarify it, right?"
An Yan stood up and walked to the door, and Fu Shiyan unapologetically grabbed her wrist and led her out.
Director Li chuckled, "It’s not easy to be here twice in one day, I was the one who contacted President Fu."
Fu Shiyan nodded slightly, "Thank you, Director Li."
Director Li, "You’re welcome, after all, Miss An Yan is President Fu’s niece."
Fu Shiyan turned to Song Chao, "As for those scumbags, better not let them out if possible."
Song Chao nodded, "Yes, President Fu."
Fu Shiyan pulled An Yan out of the police station, and An Yan immediately shook off his hand.
"Why go to the bar? Why didn’t you answer my call?"
Confronted with his questions, An Yan’s eyes seemed to harbor grievance, accusations, and sorrow, "Fu Shiyan, I ask you, what else did you do after visiting Su Manxi at the hospital?"
Fu Shiyan furrowed his brows slightly, "I didn’t do anything."
An Yan narrowed her eyes, "Nothing at all?"
"Nothing."
An Yan turned her face away, scoffing lightly, then looked at Fu Shiyan, "Since you’re not being honest, I have nothing more to say. I will move out of Bishui Bay as soon as possible."
With that, she turned, got into a black Mercedes, and drove away.
Fu Shiyan stood still, his gaze locked on the red taillights of the car, then he got into his car and followed.
The car window was half down, allowing the cool night breeze to enter, lifting An Yan’s hair by her temples.
As she looked in the rearview mirror and saw Fu Shiyan’s car close behind, she pressed a black circular button on the control panel, and her car suddenly accelerated, leaving the car behind far in the distance, quickly making a right at the intersection.
Seeing this, Fu Shiyan also stepped on the gas, but after taking a right at the intersection, he found An Yan’s car had already vanished.
He contacted Han Yang to locate An Yan’s position.
Ten minutes later, Han Yang relayed a response from Hacker S, telling him An Yan was heading towards Flat Peak Mountain.
Fu Shiyan made a U-turn and sped off.
He was very frustrated. He didn’t know why An Yan was angry, why she questioned what he had done at the hospital?
He had clearly done nothing.
No, he had applied ointment to Su Manxi.
But it was just ointment, why was An Yan so upset?
He thought, there must be some misunderstanding.
With that thought, he pressed harder on the accelerator...
