Chapter 65: Just Missing You
Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Just Missing You
An Yan gurgled as she rinsed her mouth, placing her pink tooth mug next to Fu Shiyan’s blue one.
She guessed, "An Yirou?"
"You really guessed it right! This is the application form she submitted last Friday, only saw it today when they were all sent to me." Su Yue sipped her cappuccino, "Honestly, these few design drafts of hers really do meet our Galaxy’s standards."
"Then let’s keep her," An Yan said after washing her face. "We wouldn’t want her going around claiming Galaxy uses its power to bully people."
Su Yue clicked her tongue, "Hard to deal with—she’s the very definition of that. But after last night, there might be gossip about you joining Galaxy."
"I don’t care. You can’t control what others say—they have their own mouths."
"Or just reveal that you are Galaxy."
An Yan walked out of the washroom to the dining room and began her breakfast, seeing an array of dishes on the table. "Once it’s revealed, you can’t imagine how much benefit the An Family will gain using my name, and they will entangle me. I hate troubles. I’ll pack up and send you my recent design drafts later."
After hanging up the phone, An Yan looked at several missed calls.
Some were from Bai Qinghan, and others were from unknown numbers—she could easily guess they were from An Zaili, calling to demand an explanation.
She first sent Fu Shiyan a message: Good morning, Ayan.
Then she returned a message to Bai Qinghan: Sorry I missed your messages and calls last night, I went to sleep early.
Bai Qinghan called back quickly.
An Yan knew she owed him an explanation for using him the previous night, so she answered the call.
"An Yan, my mom wants to meet you. I explained, but she just doesn’t believe me."
An Yan hadn’t expected Bai Qinghan’s mother to be the toughest to deal with, "This is indeed my fault, then I will explain it to your mother personally."
"I’ll come and pick you up."
An Yan refused, "No need, I’ll just take a taxi."
Bai Qinghan understood An Yan’s temperament a bit, the sort of person whose word was final, "Then let’s meet at Jiudao Cafe at ten in the morning."
"Okay."
An Yan pressed her temples, turned on her computer to fill in the application form, polished the drafts and sent the package to Su Yue.
At this moment, Fu Shiyan’s call came through.
An Yan answered and reported her upcoming itinerary.
There was silence from Fu Shiyan’s end.
An Yan could imagine the man’s face turning dark.
"I’ll send someone to pick you up at eleven, and order the stir-fried beef with hang peppers that you like."
His true intentions weren’t on the meal, An Yan laughed, "Do you need to be that strict?"
"It’s not that I’m keeping an eye on you, I just miss you," Fu Shiyan’s voice was gentle.
"I miss you too, see you later."
An Yan put on a white cotton dress and walked out the door with her bag.
Jiudao Cafe.
After getting out of the taxi, An Yan saw Bai Qinghan standing at the entrance, smoking a cigarette.
As she approached, Bai Qinghan immediately stamped out the cigarette, smiling and rubbing his hands as he came forward, "You’re here."
An Yan nodded, "Sorry for the trouble I’ve caused."
"It’s nothing, it’s just my mom who won’t believe it."
"Then I’ll explain it to your mother clearly."
The two entered the cafe and saw a dignified and elegant woman sitting at a corner table.
She was stirring her coffee with a small spoon, beside her lay a custom Hermes matte black short-snout crocodile bag and a pair of sunglasses, a very stylish woman indeed.
Tang Wanqiu looked up at An Yan, her face lighting up with joy, "Baby Yan!"
An Yan was momentarily taken aback before sitting opposite her.
Bai Qinghan took the seat next to Tang Wanqiu.
Tang Wanqiu extended her hand, "I often hear Qinghan mention you, and meeting you yesterday was truly a revelation. Such a young girl and yet so knowledgeable about cultural relics."
An Yan shook her hand, "Thank you, Auntie."
Tang Wanqiu asked, "What would you like to drink?"
"Lemonade will be fine."
Bai Qinghan, who sat nearby, hurriedly summoned a waiter and ordered a glass of lemonade.
Tang Wanqiu, "I heard from Qinghan that you’re studying fashion and jewelry design, and you’re about to start your internship, right?"
An Yan nodded.
"Bai Corporation owns a fashion and jewelry company. Although it hasn’t become an international top brand, it’s still far ahead domestically. You can intern at Bai Corporation, and after graduation, you can stay on as a designer."
An Yan took the lemonade from the server, thanked them, and then turned to Tang Wanqiu, "Thank you for your gracious offer, Auntie, but I’ve already prepared to intern at Galaxy."
Galaxy Design Studio is a top-notch studio in the country, and its designer Galaxy is an international leading master designer.
Of course, becoming a designer at Galaxy would be the most ideal choice, as she would be highly sought after at any company afterward.
After last night, Tang Wanqiu also knew that An Yan and the founder of Galaxy, Su Yue, were best friends, so it was normal for her to go there.
Seeing this opportunity blocked, Tang Wanqiu had to implement another plan, "Qinghan’s grandfather acquired ’Mountain Temple Spring’ two years ago, and we’re not sure if it’s authentic. Could you help us take a look?"
An Yan looked into her sincere eyes and, feeling embarrassed to refuse, nodded in agreement.
Tang Wanqiu gave a meaningful look, and Bai Qinghan went to fetch the car.
She clipped her sunglasses onto her head, carried her handbag, and looped her arm with An Yan’s as they headed for the door. They seemed very close; who could have guessed it was their first meeting?
An Yan spoke up, "Auntie, actually I came here today..."
"I know what you want to say, that you and Qinghan are just friends. I understand, relationships between people are a matter of fate and can’t be forced. I simply like you and admire your talent. Let’s be friends."
What could An Yan say? She was at a loss for words.
She smiled and followed Tang Wanqiu into the car.
On the way, An Yan messaged Fu Shiyan, saying she had clarified things with Mother Bai.
But now she needed to visit the Bai Family mansion to examine a painting for Grandpa Bai, and she would go directly to Fu Corporation afterward, so there was no need for him to send someone to pick her up.
Fu Shiyan’s face instantly turned grim when he read the message, as he was in the middle of a meeting.
This silly girl, lured into the enemy’s lair, was blissfully unaware of the danger.
In his eyes at that moment, Tang Wanqiu was like a heinous human trafficker.
His fingertips tapped lightly on the desk, and the meeting room fell silent as a tomb.
Suddenly, he stood up, announced the meeting adjourned, and strode out of the meeting room.
Han Yang followed close behind.
Fu Shiyan ordered, "Bring over the Xinyang Tea that the Service Department delivered this morning, and head to the Bai Family mansion."
"Yes."
At the Bai Family mansion.
Everyone gathered around a table, watching An Yan, wearing white gloves, and examining the painting with a magnifying glass.
Before long, An Yan looked up at Old Master Bai, " ’Mountain Temple Spring’ is a work from Zhang Daqian’s period in Brazil and marked the grand debut of his splash-ink painting style. There should be a base of dark brown and green between the foreground and the middle ground, with layers of heavy green building up over thin layers, and finally, dark ink to give it weight. It’s clear that this painting lacks the grandeur it should possess; the water and rock textures do not contrast sharply, and the brushwork is chaotic. Grandpa Bai, this painting is a fake."
Old Master Bai nodded repeatedly, "Although the painting wasn’t very costly, I am very fond of Zhang Daqian. I always felt something was off and consulted two experts, but they might not have been particularly knowledgeable about Zhang Daqian, so they couldn’t identify the problem. Your explanation makes a lot of sense to me now. An Yan, you’ll have to accompany this old man to auctions in the future."
An Yan smiled, "As long as Grandpa Bai trusts me, that’s enough."
"Do you do restoration work?"
An Yan nodded, "I can do restorations."
Old Master Bai’s eyes lit up, "I have a painting by Zhao Chang, ’Life Sketch of Butterflies,’ but some of the butterflies are damaged. Do you think you could repair it?"
An Yan replied, "I would need to take a look at it first."
Old Master Bai returned to his study and brought the scroll back himself.
An Yan looked at the painting; it was a genuine piece by Northern Song Dynasty painter Zhao Chang, but some of the butterflies were damaged, affecting its beauty and value.
Old Master Bai lamented, "I’ve asked several painting restorers, but none were confident they could restore it to its original state."
An Yan nodded, "If Grandpa Bai trusts me, I will surely restore it to its original form for you."
"Good, take it then. The fee is one million."
An Yan packed the painting carefully, "There’s no need, Grandpa Bai. I owe Young Master Bai a favor; consider this as repaying him."
Old Master Bai was taken aback, internally sighing that his grandson had likely missed his chance.
Just then, a servant approached, "Old Master, President Fu has arrived."
