Chapter 474: Chapter 474 Mu Shaoci & Shen Lu 19
Shen Lu stopped by the supermarket on her way home and bought ribs, Chinese yam, bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, and baby cabbage—ingredients that Mu Shaoci was fond of.
When she got home, she immediately disappeared into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
She cooked braised ribs, stir-fried Chinese yam, bok choy with shiitake, and dry pot baby cabbage.
While simmering the mushroom soup, she stared at the clay pot and zoned out.
She didn’t even notice when Mu Shaoci came up behind her until a pair of male hands wrapped around her waist.
Shen Lu snapped back to reality and turned her head with a smile, "You’re back?"
Mu Shaoci nibbled at her pale neck, a spot that was sensitive for Shen Lu.
His hands also started to wander, causing the person in his arms to go weak at the knees.
"Shaoci, I still need to tend to the soup," Shen Lu said, her eyes misty with tears.
Mu Shaoci kissed her lips, murmuring indistinctly, "But I really want to eat you."
Shen Lu hadn’t anticipated the man’s appetite would be so strong after getting a taste.
She whispered, "I’m still sore."
"I’ll just hold you, kiss you, won’t touch you," Mu Shaoci turned her around to face him, looking into her eyes, "Lulu, you’re truly beautiful."
Shen Lu tugged at his shirt with both hands, "So you’re all about looks?"
Mu Shaoci chuckled, "I liked you not before you became beautiful, when you wore those thick glasses and sported straight across bangs, you were very alluring to me."
Shen Lu pouted, "You’re just good with words, who knows when you took an interest in me. And maybe it was these hands of mine that captivated you."
Mu Shaoci held her soft hands, his eyebrows lifting playfully, "Indeed, I am captivated. Your cooking is delicious, and you’re excellent in other aspects as well."
Shen Lu could easily decipher the man’s insinuation, her cheeks suddenly blushing, "The soup is ready, I need to turn off the heat."
Mu Shaoci didn’t tease her any further, watching her turn to turn off the stove and ladle the soup, with an even bigger smile on his lips.
Going to work at the office every day, returning home to a delicious meal, and having someone to embrace at night.
This was the life he wanted.
The two of them brought the food and soup to the dining room, sat down across from each other, and enjoyed the dinner together.
Shen Lu cautiously guarded her emotions, fearing an inadvertent facial expression would reveal her true inner thoughts.
"Is it good?"
Mu Shaoci nodded with satisfaction, "Very good."
Shen Lu smiled at him, her eyes filled with love.
After dinner, they stuck together washing dishes.
Shen Lu laughingly asked, "We have a dishwasher, why bother washing by hand?"
Mu Shaoci stood behind her, holding her as they washed together, "Because I like holding you this way."
Upon hearing that, Shen Lu’s heart felt both sweet and sour.
She thought, in the future, when Mu Shaoci got married, he would also be this affectionate with his wife.
Thinking this, her eyes suddenly reddened, and a tear dropped into the sink.
Mu Shaoci didn’t notice her upset, "Let’s go skiing in Switzerland together this winter."
Shen Lu hummed in response, "But I can’t ski, I’m so clumsy."
"It doesn’t matter, I can teach you. I have a lot of patience for you."
Shen Lu hummed softly.
In the quiet of the late night, with the steady breathing of the man behind her, Shen Lu didn’t dare move, as she was tightly locked in his embrace.
Looking at the bright moon outside the window, her heart was filled with an unstoppable desolation.
The next morning, Shen Lu woke up to find the other side of the bed had already gone cold.
She grabbed her cell phone from the nightstand and glanced at the time—it was already eight o’clock.
By this point, Shaoci would have already gone to the office.
"Damn it!" she sat up, running her fingers through her hair, "He hasn’t had breakfast yet."
She had fallen asleep late into the night as the sky began to show the first light of dawn, hence why she hadn’t woken up earlier.
She called Shaoci, but after he hung up, he sent her a text message.
[In a meeting right now. I’ve already made breakfast, eat up and go back to sleep if you’re still tired. Don’t come over at noon, President Guo and I are having lunch at Huating Mansion.]
Shen Lu replied, [Got it, don’t drink too much.]
[Okay.]
Shen Lu got out of bed to freshen up, and when she walked into the dining room, she saw two plates of sushi, each with a different flavor.
Shaoci could make simple meals, but he rarely cooked.
Shen Lu picked up a piece of sushi and tried it—it tasted not bad.
Just then, her phone rang—it was an unfamiliar number.
She answered, and a woman’s voice came through.
"Assistant Shen, this is Zhou Jiaqi."
Shen Lu had no desire to engage with this woman, "What can I do for you, Miss Zhou?"
"Oh, indeed there is something very important, like, for instance, the diamond necklace."
Shen Lu’s grip tightened on her phone; since Zhou Jiaqi could contact her about this matter, it was very likely she also knew about her father’s gambling debts.
"What does Miss Zhou want?"
"No. 9 Cafe, ten o’clock."
Shen Lu looked at the phone as the screen went dark, a deep sense of powerlessness washing over her.
She leaned back in her chair, staring blankly for quite a while before getting up.
Cleaning the room and washing up, she didn’t delay at all.
At 9:30, she applied light makeup, dressed in a thin cardigan, jeans, and topped it off with a beige trench coat, stepping into a pair of ankle boots before heading out the door.
She arrived at the cafe right at ten o’clock.
In the corner, Zhou Jiaqi was already sitting there, sipping her coffee.
She wore a lambskin jacket paired with a long red dress, both vibrant and seductive.
She waved at Shen Lu, as if seeing an old friend after many years.
Shen Lu walked over and sat down opposite her.
"What would you like to drink?" asked Zhou Jiaqi.
Shen Lu cut to the chase, "Miss Zhou, if there’s something you want to say, just say it."
Zhou Jiaqi twirled her red lipstick, smiling, "I suppose Brother Shaoci doesn’t know about your dad’s situation yet. Getting involved with your kind of people is really such bad luck."
Shen Lu pursed her lips, "That’s my family’s business, and it has nothing to do with Miss Zhou. There’s no need for you to criticize if you want to."
Zhou Jiaqi scoffed sarcastically, "Anxious? To do such disgusting things and not even allow people to talk about it? Leave Brother Shaoci, and I’ll give you twenty million."
She took out a check from her bag, placed it on the table, and slid it towards Shen Lu, "Take this, redeem the necklace, and you’ll still have seventeen million left. Whether you sell the necklace or what, it’s up to you. If you leave Brother Shaoci on your own, at least you’ll leave him with a good impression. You know very well he won’t marry you. Men always have calculations and cost in mind, if he knows about your dad’s situation, he won’t spend any more on you."
Shen Lu looked at the check as if she had been loudly slapped across the face.
She pushed the check back, "Miss Zhou, not everything or everyone in this world is up for trade. I will leave President Mu, but definitely not in such a disgusting way. From what I know of President Mu, he would absolutely never like someone like you. I know I’m not worthy, but you’re even less so. Aside from a good family background, what else do you have? You’re just an idler, and an overbearing one at that!"
Zhou Jiaqi had never been humiliated like this before, so she splashed the coffee in her cup towards Shen Lu.
