Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Did You Really Just Happen to Pass By Today?

Upon arriving at the police station, Fu Shiyan and An Yan were taken to separate reception rooms to give their statements. Half an hour had passed by the time they were finished.

Director Li shook hands with Fu Shiyan, "It’s troubling that you had to come in person. The suspect, Hu Jie, is now receiving medical treatment in the hospital, but the general situation is clear, it’s a case of malicious assault. We are still investigating the specifics to determine whether it was a crime of his own volition or if he was instructed by someone else. His family has requested a psychiatric evaluation."

Fu Shiyan’s cold eyes narrowed slightly, "Are they trying to use this evaluation to get a chance for acquittal?"

Director Li nodded, "If he is diagnosed with a mental illness, that’s indeed the case."

Fu Shiyan’s eyes, hard as gemstones, turned towards a middle-aged man and woman, around fifty, who were looking over in this direction, he asked, "Are those the suspect’s parents?"

"Yes."

Fu Shiyan turned and walked over to them, his expression dark, "I advise you not to think about exploiting legal loopholes, otherwise I will make Hu Jie’s feigning become reality!"

The man, agitated, exclaimed, "You’re threatening us!"

Fu Shiyan’s formidable face was intimidating, a chilling aura swirling around him, "Do not try to test my limits!"

He looked back at An Yan with a softer voice, "Let’s go."

An Yan nodded and followed his lead.

As they passed by Hu Jie’s parents, Hu Jie’s mother suddenly grabbed An Yan’s hand, "Miss, my Xiaojie is a good kid, can you give him another chance, please?"

An Yan pried the woman’s fingers off one by one, "I can understand your feelings as a mother who loves her child, but he has broken the law. If he had succeeded today, I could have been disfigured or even in life-threatening danger, which would have ruined my life."

"But you are standing here unharmed now! Please have pity on my heart as a mother, I am begging you." The woman fell to her knees, "Xiaojie has some extreme thoughts usually, but he would never hurt someone for no reason, he must have been manipulated by someone."

Fu Shiyan grabbed An Yan’s wrist and walked away.

Hu Jie’s parents wanted to persist, but Han Yang intercepted them, "You two should go to the hospital and properly counsel your son, to tell the truth. But it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t confess, we will find out everything clearly."

Upon leaving the police station, Fu Shiyan let go of An Yan’s wrist and quickly put distance between them.

An Yan watched the man get into the back seat of the car, feeling an unprecedented sense of defeat sweeping over her.

On the way back, Assistant Han glanced through the rearview mirror at the two people in the backseat who were strangers to each other.

What had happened?

They had been fine when they went to Bishui Bay together to treat the wound, right?

Now, the relationship between the two of them had plummeted to a freezing point.

Soon, the car stopped downstairs at Bishui Bay.

Fu Shiyan, hidden in the shadows, his tone dark and cool, said, "Han Yang, take her upstairs."

"No need, I can go by myself..."

The man’s voice was unequivocal, "Han Yang!"

"Understood!" Han Yang quickly got out of the car to open the door for An Yan, "Miss An Yan, this way, please."

An Yan turned and looked deeply at Fu Shiyan, and then turned away, "Younger Uncle, I won’t say those nonsensical things anymore or do things that trouble you and make you uncomfortable."

After An Yan got out of the car, Fu Shiyan called out to Han Yang with a hint of warning in his tone, "Don’t talk nonsense."

Han Yang nodded, "Understood."

As An Yan entered the building’s door, Fu Shiyan’s gaze inadvertently followed her for a moment before he looked away.

An Yan stepped into the elevator, with Han Yang following in.

He couldn’t help but say, "Miss An Yan, actually President Fu is quite good to you."

"I know," An Yan asked, "Were you really just passing by today?"

Han Yang sighed internally, how could it be just passing by.

After work, Fu Shiyan said they were going to Wanjiang Banquet.

He originally thought they were going there for a meal, but upon arriving, Fu Shiyan had him hide the car behind a stone pillar. He didn’t get out of the car, instead, they just sat there quietly waiting.

At first, he was clueless and didn’t dare to ask.

It was only when An Yan and Bai Qinghan came out together and drove off that Fu Shiyan told him to follow them.

Then it dawned on him, they were here not to catch a cheater but to track them.

No, to follow them covertly.

Afterward, the moment Fu Shiyan saw someone trying to harm An Yan, he didn’t even wait for the car to stop properly before charging up.

He felt that Fu Shiyan had never shown interest or concern for any woman other than his female relatives, and An Yan was the first.

As an observer, he could clearly see that Fu Shiyan’s care for An Yan was more than just a senior’s concern for a junior.

After all, the two of them had shared some unspeakable moments, and the emotions involved were definitely not simple.

He originally thought An Yan could end up with Fu Shiyan, but today, seeing her dining with Bai Qinghan, he couldn’t help but suspect that An Yan might be playing both sides. He sort of felt the need to speak up for Fu Shiyan, which is why he mentioned how good Fu Shiyan has been to her.

But he couldn’t speak for Fu Shiyan, nor could he guess the other’s real thoughts.

Moreover, President Fu didn’t allow him to speak carelessly.

She answered, "Yes, we just happened to be passing by."

An Yan had initially indulged in fantasy, thinking that Fu Shiyan had come specifically for her.

With difficulty, she mustered a smile at the corner of her lips, "I understand. Assistant Han, please be careful on the way back."

Once she returned home, An Yan composed herself, sat down at her computer desk, turned on her computer, and began investigating Hu Jie’s past, his accounts as well as his recent call list, message records, and whereabouts.

After a series of investigations, it turned out that Hu Jie was an obsessive fan of An Yirou.

An Yirou was an internet celebrity with a million followers, highly popular online, with many people supporting her.

Recently, her relationship with An Yirou had intensified, so the possibility of fans seeking revenge was exceedingly high.

However, she didn’t dismiss any possibility and discovered a burner number that had been in frequent contact with Hu Jie lately.

Her fingers flew across the keyboard as she entered lines of code; soon, the program she was editing automatically traced the ID of the other party.

Sun Xun, male, 34 years old, proficient in computer programming.

Following this lead, An Yan found that his account had received five hundred thousand a week ago, and the sender was named Zhou Huai’an, the owner of Gold Shadow Bar.

An Yan thought it over; she had never offended this person, so it was very possible that someone had hired Zhou Huai’an to cause her trouble.

She hacked into Zhou Huai’an’s phone, checked his WeChat and call logs, and found a familiar name—Jiang Nan.

An Yan let out a light ’hah’, so it was her.

She located Jiang Nan’s current position, briskly got up and went into the cloakroom, donned a black coat, put on a mask, a cap, took a pair of white gloves, and left.

Gold Shadow Bar.

The smell of tobacco and liquor permeated the air, and deafening music assailed people’s eardrums.

Men and women in colorful attire danced passionately on the dance floor; a woman in a hip-hugging miniskirt, sexy and fiery, tossed her long wavy hair with abandon as she moved to the thumping rhythm.

When she got tired, she left the dance floor to join a man with yellow-dyed hair in a private booth.

"Sister Nan, don’t worry, tonight that little bitch will be disfigured."

Jiang Nan took a sip of Bloody Mary, lit a lady’s cigarette, and blew out a puff of smoke upwards, "Competing with me for a man, she’s overestimating herself! That hacker didn’t leave any traces, right?"

"When I handle things, you can relax. He just stirred up that fanatic, there’s no substantial evidence, they definitely can’t trace it back to him or us."

Jiang Nan’s red lips curled up, giving the man’s shoulder a pat, "Thank you, Huai’an."

Zhou Huai’an smiled and said, "Just don’t forget about me when Sister Nan strikes it rich."

"Of course!" Jiang Nan stood up, "You have fun, I’m going to touch up my makeup."

Suddenly, her eyes widened in terror, and she whipped around, pointing at the fully geared person walking toward her, "You, you, you, who are you?"

Behind her mask, the corners of An Yan’s lips curled up, and she shook her neck making a cracking sound.

Jiang Nan’s hands trembled non-stop, and her lipstick dropped to the ground with a clatter as she desperately rushed towards the exit.

Her hair was yanked forcefully, bending her neck backward, and she cried out in pain, clutching her head, "Don’t, don’t hurt me, I have money, lots of money, you can have as much as you want!"

With a forceful toss from An Yan, Jiang Nan stumbled and slammed into the washbasin, her lower abdomen aching.

She turned around, clasping her hands in front of her chest, "Who hired you, I’ll give you double, five times, ten times?"

An Yan raised her hand and delivered a resounding slap, then backhanded another.

She grasped Jiang Nan’s neck and slowly applied pressure, with Jiang Nan frantically slapping An Yan’s arms.

Not until Jiang Nan’s face turned from red to purple did An Yan release her grip.

Jiang Nan collapsed onto the floor like a heap of soft cotton, coughing violently.

An Yan tilted her head to look at her.

Jiang Nan violently shook her head, breaking down in tears, "I beg you, don’t hurt me."

An Yan bent down and shushed her.

Jiang Nan nodded incessantly, "I won’t cry, I won’t scream."

An Yan gave her a thumbs up, signaling approval.

What followed was a series of slaps to the face, until Jiang Nan’s face swelled like a pig’s head, blood streaming from her nostrils.

An Yan looked at the barely conscious Jiang Nan, picked up the lipstick from the ground, and drew clown-like corners on her mouth.

Bangs and thuds came from someone banging on the door.

"Sister Nan, are you alright?"

"Sister Nan, speak to us!"

...

An Yan slapped her face hard three times and then swiftly got up and jumped out of the second-floor window.
