Chapter 273: Chapter 273: If You Miss Dad in the Future, Just Look at Me More
Four years later.
Inside the café.
An Yan wore a one-letter black AY dress that cinched at the waist, creating a stark visual contrast with her milky skin.
Her features were as picturesque as a painting, refined and ethereal, with seaweed-like raven curls draped around her waist, making her a striking scene to behold as she sat there.
She was flipping through documents, waiting for her business partner to arrive.
A shadow fell over her.
An Yan instinctively looked up, seeing a man in a tailored suit, warm and refined.
He nodded slightly, "Good day, Chairman Mu, I am Jin Hansheng from Sanshi Corporation."
An Yan nodded back, "Hello, President Jin. Please, have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"
Jin Hansheng sat opposite her and smiled, "I’ll have the same as Chairman Mu."
An Yan smiled faintly, summoned the waiter, and ordered two black coffees.
While waiting, An Yan shared her views on the collaborative project between the two companies.
She pointed out a few things, and Jin Hansheng expressed his agreement.
The two reached a consensus, ready to sign the contract at Fu Corporation next time.
Jin Hansheng said, "Actually, it was somewhat presumptuous to ask Chairman Mu to discuss the contract in a café, but I also have a personal reason. I wanted to use this romantic setting to get to know you better."
An Yan curved her lips slightly, "Did Old Madam Fu send you here?"
Jin Hansheng chuckled, "Indeed, she did show me the light, but mainly, I have long admired you, Chairman Mu."
At that moment, the waiter brought their coffees.
An Yan took a sip of her coffee, "Wouldn’t you like to try it, President Jin?"
Jin Hansheng took a sip, the rich bitterness assailing his taste buds, so bitter it involuntarily made one frown.
An Yan caressed the cup, "President Jin, food that doesn’t suit one’s palate can cause great distress, and so can people. I have never thought of being with another man. I love my husband, and I will wait for him forever."
Jin Hansheng poured himself a glass of water and took a few sips before the bitterness in his mouth faded, "But President Fu has been missing for five years. He might, sorry, I mean no offense, but you shouldn’t live in memories. That’s also what Old Madam Fu thinks."
An Yan gathered her documents, stood up, and picked up her bag, "The coffee is already paid for. President Jin, I hope our collaboration can continue. Moreover, my husband is definitely still alive; he has just temporarily forgotten his way home."
Having said that, An Yan turned and left.
Jin Hansheng watched An Yan’s retreating figure, finding her perfect in every way except for her excessive persistence.
An Yan got into her car and called Zhou Yi.
"Are you setting me up with a business partner or a blind date?"
Zhou Yi was a bit excited and somewhat guilty, "So, how do you feel? The young man is unmarried, healthy, and handsome. I think he’s quite good. You’ve been waiting for Shiyan for five years; how much longer will you wait? Yan, Mom worries about you! This is also what your dad thinks."
An Yan rubbed her temples, "Are you really Ayan’s biological parents?"
"We truly are," sighed Zhou Yi, "We just think it’s too hard for you to take care of Anan and Yanyan by yourself. Don’t wait for Shiyan any longer."
"Ayan will come back," An Yan pressed her lips together, "If he doesn’t, I will remain chaste for him. This is already the seventh blind date, please don’t worry about it anymore in the future."
Zhou Yi said okay, "Tonight, bring Anan and Yanyan back to the old house. I’ve made your favorite steamed pork ribs."
An Yan hummed in response, "Okay, thanks, Mom."
After hanging up the phone, An Yan let out a long sigh.
It had been five years since Ayan and she parted.
These five years, not a day had gone by without her thinking of him.
Never mind, even if another ten groups of five years pass, she would keep waiting for him.
Starting her car, An Yan drove into the stream of traffic, heading towards Jiangcheng International Kindergarten.
Standing at the kindergarten gate, she saw the children marching out in line.
Fu Jinyan was making heart gestures from a distance and throwing flirtatious glances, while Fu Mu’an, entirely in demeanor, looked on with a disdainful expression.
Although the brothers were only born ten minutes apart, their personalities were worlds apart, totally different.
Fu Mu’an was very much like Fu Shiyan, and as for Fu Jinyan, An Yan would absolutely not admit he resembled her.
After picking up the two treasures, An Yan kissed each on their little faces.
"I’ve missed you both so much, my little darlings!"
Fu Jinyan also kissed An Yan, "I missed Mommy too. Mommy, you look so beautiful today."
Fu Mu’an glanced at him, "Even though it’s the truth, you don’t have to say it every day, you sycophant."
Fu Jinyan huffed, pulling An Yan’s hand and marching forward, "Mommy, ignore him!"
An Yan was particularly exasperated, extending her hand toward Fu Mu’an, "Anan, let Mommy lead you."
Fu Mu’an, with his little hands buried in his pockets, looked haughty, "No need, you go ahead with that crybaby."
An Yan stifled a laugh, opened the car’s rear door, and the two little ones dutifully sat in their child seats, buckling the safety belts.
An Yan drove towards the old house.
Fu Jinyan was chuckling, "Mommy, today in our art appreciation class, we were drawing. Guess what I drew?"
An Yan glanced in the rearview mirror and smiled, "Let me guess, was it a vase?"
"No."
"Then was it a still life? Like apples or bananas or something?"
"No, our teacher asked us to draw people. I drew Dad based on brother’s features, and brother drew Mom based on mine. They all say we don’t have a dad, but if we don’t have a dad, where do we come from?"
Fu Mu’an stared at him, "Can’t you keep quiet for once? You chatter endlessly like a sparrow."
Fu Jinyan made a funny face, "Blah blah blah!"
Fu Mu’an furrowed his brow and said softly, "Don’t talk about dad anymore, it hurts mom’s feelings."
An Yan did feel distressed. No child doesn’t want a father. Fu Mu’an and Fu Jinyan had only been able to look at their dad’s photo and imagine what it was like to have a dad since they were young.
An Yan took a deep breath to settle her emotions and smiled, "Dad will come back."
Fu Mu’an said earnestly, "Ms. Mu Anyan, Jinyan and I don’t really care about not having a dad. For so many years, you’ve been both a mom and a dad to us. We just think you’re too lonely and working too hard. Other kids’ moms have dads to go shopping and play sports with, but you only have Auntie Su Yue and Sister Jinqiao."
Fu Jinyan nodded, "We might not have a dad, but you need a husband."
An Yan felt both warm and amused; two five-year-olds were advising her to find a husband.
Throughout the journey, the two kids kept working on changing her mind.
Until the car stopped in front of the old house.
She brought the two kids down from the car.
She bent down to meet their gaze, "Anan, Yanyan, I appreciate you both caring and considering for mom, but in this life, I only love your dad, so let’s not bring up the issue of me finding another husband again. Although dad hasn’t been with you for these five years, mom has been trying hard to fulfill the responsibilities your father should have. Most importantly, mom believes that dad will come back."
Fu Mu’an sighed softly, "Then when you think of dad in the future, just look more at me."
Fu Jinyan glanced at him, "Always saying I’m competing for favor, but I think you rely on your face to act cute!"
An Yan laughed aloud, ruffling their hair, "How can you be so adorable?"
"Yo, what’s going on here, have you been scolded?" Zhou Yi’s voice came from behind.
Fu Jinyan ran over and hugged Zhou Yi’s leg, "Grandma, Yanyan has missed you so much."
Fu Mu’an rolled his eyes and muttered, "Such a brown-noser."
An Yan chuckled and poked his face, holding his hand as she walked over to Zhou Yi, "They both missed you and grandpa a lot."
Zhou Yi beamed, "I missed you guys too. You two little ones, come on inside. I made you some delicious egg tarts. Eat up quickly, or else when Jinqiao comes back, you won’t have any left."
Fu Mu’an shrugged, "It doesn’t matter, as long as I call her ’Third Auntie,’ she will let me have them all."
Zhou Yi laughed; this little guy was just as sly as Shiyan from a young age.
Speaking of Cao Cao, Cao Cao arrives; Fu Jinqiao’s car drove through the carved gates.
Fu Jinyan pulled Fu Mu’an’s hand, "Hurry, the big eater is here!"
Zhou Yi watched the two kids run inside, laughing heartily, "In the blink of an eye, Anan and Yanyan have grown up so much. Once Jinqiao and Qianfan have another child, this house will be even livelier."
In the midst of talking, Fu Jinqiao got out of the car.
She gave Zhou Yi and An Yan a big hug each.
"Grandma, did you make egg tarts?"
Zhou Yi tickled her nose, "Little sniffer, always so effective."
Fu Jinqiao raised her eyebrows at An Yan, "Did you go to the café? Or is it black coffee? Did grandma set you up with another match again?"
An Yan gave a thumbs-up, "Absolutely right, you could be a detective."
Fu Jinqiao laughed, "I can’t be a detective, but I could be an archaeologist! Can Auntie help out?"
She walked with An Yan towards the villa.
An Yan glanced at her, "Whenever you call me ’Younger Auntie,’ it’s definitely for no good reason."
"Good reason, good reason. They found an ancient tomb dating back 1,500 years in Banqiao Town, Ningcheng, in the southwest. There are quite a few treasures there. Younger Auntie, come with me, it’ll give me some clout if you’re there."
Fu Jinqiao clasped her hands together, rubbing them, "Please."
Zhou Yi frowned, "That ancient tomb is creepy; I really don’t get what you’re so obsessed about. I remember you idolize that tomb robber named Tu Long, right?"
Fu Jinqiao objected, "Tu Long is not just a tomb robber; he is my idol. In the treasure appraising world, he’s a legend, right alongside you, Auntie."
Zhou Yi snorted, "He’s great at appraising treasures, but how come he keeps them for himself?"
Fu Jinqiao disagreed, "I’ve heard he sells those treasures to rich people, then donates the proceeds to associations for people with disabilities. That’s called robbing the rich to help the poor. Grandma, you don’t understand."
Zhou Yi felt that Fu Jinqiao was just blindly idolizing, deludedly so, and shook her head as she entered the villa first.
Fu Jinqiao winked at An Yan, "What do you think of Tu Long?"
An Yan nodded appreciatively, "Not bad, but I’ve heard that the stuff he sells to the rich are all found by fluke, and the stories about him have been blown out of proportion."
"Younger Auntie, will you come with me then? Maybe I’ll even get lucky and meet Tu Long."
An Yan poked her forehead, "If my third brother knew how crazily infatuated you are with someone, no matter if it’s a man or woman, he’d be so jealous."
Fu Jinqiao bit her lip, "Will you come with me?"
An Yan nodded, "Alright. When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow."
An Yan: "..."
After settling the children, An Yan and Fu Jinqiao headed to southwestern Ningcheng the next day.
Banqiao Town in southwestern Ningcheng is a quaint town rich in cultural heritage.
When An Yan and Fu Jinqiao arrived, the archaeology team had not yet arrived.
An Yan checked the time; it was already six in the evening. Even if the team arrived, it would be pretty late.
The two felt a bit hungry and decided to stroll around the town market to try some local specialties.
Night fell and the lanterns brightened, lively activity picking up in the night market.
Fu Jinqiao looked around curiously.
An Yan, however, was browsing casually.
Suddenly, her gaze locked onto the back of a man, and her heartbeat sped up.
She quickly walked towards the man.
