Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Taking Care of Yanyan Until She’s Fair and Plump
Bi Mang felt shocked upon hearing this.
"They aren’t, Yan’s biological parents?"
Fu Shiyan did not conceal anything from Bi Mang and relayed exactly what An Zaili had said to him.
After hearing this, Bi Mang furrowed his brow, "An Zaili’s words cannot be trusted. Don’t tell Yan about this for now. You can’t choose your parents, but I don’t believe those people are Yan’s parents. Keep investigating."
Fu Shiyan nodded, "I understand."
The two of them put aside this topic and started to talk about other things.
Inside the kitchen.
Lu Yun passed a bowl of potatoes to Han Yang, "Young man, you peel the potatoes."
Han Yang, holding a peeler, squatted next to the trash bin and began to peel.
When An Yan came in, she found the scene amusing.
The mighty executive assistant reduced to a peeling robot.
She wrapped her arms around Lu Yun from behind, "Grandma, I’ve missed you so much."
"Hmph, you just know how to sweet-talk me every day," Lu Yun said with feigned disdain, but she could not hide the smile on her face.
"Grandma, I want to eat fresh flower cake."
Lu Yun laughed, "Then come pick fresh flowers with Grandma."
The two went out to the backyard greenhouse, where a whole field of roses came into view.
Lu Yun, with gardening shears in hand, An Yan following behind with a flower basket, walked in.
"Does he know your identity?"
An Yan replied, "He doesn’t know. I haven’t told him. Michael still hasn’t been caught, and I don’t want Ayan to get involved in this mess."
Lu Yun placed the cut roses into the basket and sighed, "You always want to bear everything on your own, child."
"If it weren’t for Ayan saving me back then, I wouldn’t be in this world anymore."
Lu Yun asked, "So when are you two planning to hold the wedding?"
"Let’s deal with Michael first, and, Fu Family doesn’t yet know about our marriage certificate, I’ve asked not to tell them."
Lu Yun frowned, "So you are not planning to have a baby anytime soon?"
An Yan nodded.
"What if you never find Michael? Will you just keep everything secret, not host a wedding, not have a baby?"
An Yan noticed Lu Yun was getting angry and quickly linked her arm, "Grandma, please don’t be mad. I’m only twenty years old; it’s not too late to talk about this later. Besides, I’ve sent people to look for Michael, and I expect to have results soon."
Lu Yun held her hand, "Promise Grandma, even if he is found, you won’t personally go after him. It’s too dangerous. Grandma can’t bear to lose you or Bi Chong again."
An Yan nodded, "Okay, I know."
The two picked a basket full of roses and returned to the kitchen, plucked all the petals off, and began to crush them.
As Lu Yun kneaded the dough, An Yan praised her, "Grandma makes the best fresh flower cake in the whole world."
"You just know how to flatter me."
"So are you happy or not?"
"You cheeky girl, I actually fall for your flattery every time."
The grandmother and granddaughter laughed heartily together.
Han Yang, who was peeling potatoes on the side, was also infected by the laughter and his lips curved in a slight smile.
Lunch was served in the side hall.
Bi Mang and Lu Yun piled the plates in front of An Yan high with food: poached chicken, stir-fried bamboo shoots with pork, chili with cured meat, spare ribs with Hericium mushroom soup...
"Grandpa, Grandma, am I back to gain weight?"
Bi Mang laughed, "Eat more, you’re too skinny. Shiyan, you have to keep an eye on her too from now on, make sure she eats more."
Lu Yun, "Yes, I only have this one granddaughter; you must take good care of her."
Fu Shiyan nodded, "Grandpa, Grandma, rest assured, I will definitely take care of Yanyan and make sure she’s healthy and plump."
Han Yang lowered his head to eat, noting that the usually stern and rigid President Fu was now lowering his stature quite a bit!
After the meal, An Yan took Fu Shiyan to her room.
Although she hadn’t been back for a long time, the room was still neat, as Lu Yun would clean it every two or three days.
The outside was antique, but the interior was girly, with everything pink.
"Before, this place was decorated with red sandalwood furniture, but since I arrived, all those old antiques were moved out. Grandpa, Grandma, and my brother doted on me, and the only brother who bullied me was also put in his place by me."
Fu Shiyan asked, "Brother?"
"My brother was Bi Zhan, who passed away two years ago."
Fu Shiyan hugged her, gently stroking her hair, "What was the cause of his death?"
The image of Bi Zhan’s death surfaced in An Yan’s mind, making her breath catch.
Her tears fell uncontrollably, possibly because returning here stirred up her emotions.
Fu Shiyan felt the person in his arms trembling incessantly and quickly let go, bending down to wipe the tears from her face, "Don’t cry now."
An Yan buried herself in the man’s embrace, trying hard to calm her emotions.
She said, "He died of an illness, and he was very kind to me. Even though I was adopted, he treated me like his own sister."
"Yanyan, don’t cry anymore. If he knew, he wouldn’t want to see you so upset."
An Yan nodded, wiping away her tears, "Let me take you out for a walk."
The courtyard was right at the border of Xiangcheng and Sucheng, at the foot of Daqing Mountain.
The trees on the mountain were lush, and the air was exceptionally good.
Fu Shiyan and An Yan climbed the mountain hand in hand. Since stone steps had been laid out, climbing wasn’t tiring at all.
It was past five o’clock when they reached the top of Daqing Mountain, right at sunset.
There was a swing hanging from a poplar tree on the mountaintop.
An Yan sat on it, while Fu Shiyan gently pushed her.
"When I was little, my brothers and I would often come here to play." An Yan looked at the sunset in the distance, enveloped in orange light, her entire being aglow with a golden hue. "At first, I would let my younger brother have the swing, but it was my older brother who taught me that if you like something, you should fight for it. If you always give in, the other person will start to take it for granted. Gradually, I stopped letting my brother have the swing, and then he’d complain to Grandpa and Grandma or my older brother, and I’d end up being lectured. My younger brother grew up, and then he stopped competing and began letting me have the swing instead."
She turned back with a smile, "I’m very grateful to Grandpa and Grandma for adopting me, they gave me a home."
Fu Shiyan stood silently behind her as An Yan blinked, put her foot out to stop the swing, and it came to a halt.
She stood up and walked over, "Now you’ve given me another home, thank you, Ayan."
Fu Shiyan embraced her, filled with compassion, "After you graduate, we’ll have our wedding, and then have a whole soccer team of kids."
"A soccer team? Do you see me as a sow?"
Fu Shiyan’s laugh was low and magnetic, "Then how about two? One boy and one girl for a good combination?"
"Two might be something to consider."
The two held each other tightly, not letting go until dusk had enveloped the ridgeline, and then they descended the mountain.
The Fu Family’s old residence.
Fu Haichuan and Zhou Yi were enjoying tea while Fu Chenyu strode in.
He slouched on the sofa, unable to hide the joy in his eyes.
Fu Haichuan glanced at him, "What, you’re happy about becoming a dad again?"
Fu Chenyu immediately frowned, "Grandpa, why would you say that?"
"But I’m not wrong," retorted Haichuan.
Fu Chenyu cleared his throat, "Grandpa, do you know that Younger Uncle went to Xiangcheng for a project discussion?"
