Chapter 136: Whose Daughter Am I After All?

Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Whose Daughter Am I After All?

Fu Shiyan turned around and walked over to An Yan, taking her trembling hand.

He said softly, "Yanyan, I’m right here."

An Yan looked up at him, desperately trying to control her emotions, but she couldn’t hide the dimness in her eyes.

Her face was pale, yet she managed a smile, "I’m fine."

Fu Shiyan was filled with heartache; he had been worried that something like this would happen, which is why he had not left and had been waiting all along.

After Bi Chong had sent him a message, he had rushed over immediately.

He had thought that this was merely a struggle over share ownership, but he hadn’t expected that it would involve An Yan’s parentage.

He glanced at everyone, "I will buy all of Miss Xu Zhen’s 25% shares. if anyone wishes to compete with me, I will see it through to the end."

He looked at Zhang Yufeng, "Please take care of the follow-up matters, Lawyer Zhang."

Zhang Yufeng nodded, "Rest assured."

Fu Shiyan left with An Yan, and Bi Chong followed closely behind.

In the conference room, Han Yang showed the share purchase contract to the directors present.

Zhang Yufeng spoke with a grave tone, "So, now, with 42% of the shares, Miss An Yan has become the chairman of An Corporation. Do any of you still have objections?"

Who would dare to object now? That would be openly challenging Fu Shiyan.

Seeing that everyone had quieted down, Zhang Yufeng formally announced that An Yan had become the chairman of An Corporation.

Down at the An Corporation Mansion.

Fu Shiyan helped An Yan into the passenger seat and turned to Bi Chong, "Go check if An Yan’s grandmother is in the psychiatric hospital. I’ll take An Yan to find An Zaili."

Bi Chong nodded and, without delay, drove off to investigate.

Fu Shiyan got into the car and headed to the detention center.

"Don’t think too much about it for now, Yanyan. What An Jincheng said might not be true."

An Yan’s eyes were downcast, and after a long while, she said, "An Zaili and Yang Suhua have never liked me, and it’s because I’m not really his daughter. Everything makes sense now. But if I’m not his daughter, nor Xu Zhen’s daughter, then whose daughter am I?"

Fu Shiyan gripped her cold hand with one of his, "Yanyan, don’t think too much about it right now."

An Yan nodded, but she couldn’t stop herself from thinking about it.

Soon, the car arrived at the detention center.

An Zaili, Du Xinlan, and Yang Suhua had been serving a three-month sentence here.

The prison guard escorted An Zaili to the visitation room.

An Zaili’s hair was gray, his cheeks hollow, giving the impression that he had aged almost a decade since the last time.

He hadn’t expected An Yan to be willing to see him, especially not with Fu Shiyan in tow.

He sat down in the chair, his handcuffed hands on the table, "An Yan, you’re finally willing to see me. Have you forgiven me? I have reflected on my actions, truly. From now on, I will treat you well, alright?"

An Yan responded coldly, "An Zaili, who am I exactly? Whose daughter am I really?"

An Zaili was taken aback, "What are you talking about? Of course, you are my daughter!"

An Yan explained everything that had happened, "You put my grandmother in the psychiatric hospital, didn’t you? Then why did you say she was dead? What exactly are you hiding?"

An Zaili shook his head, "I don’t understand what you’re saying, really. Believe me."

Seeing that she couldn’t get any answers from him, An Yan said directly, "Then let’s do a paternity test. The data won’t lie."

After watching Fu Shiyan and An Yan leave, An Zaili slumped back into his chair.

Soon, Fu Shiyan arranged for someone to draw blood from An Zaili and send it to the hospital for a paternity test alongside An Yan’s blood.

The noon sun was harsh and blinding, but An Yan felt entirely cold.

She sat in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, knees drawn up, her face buried.

Fu Shiyan walked up to her, lifted her into his arms, "Even in summer, sitting on the floor can make you catch a cold."

An Yan leaned on the man’s chest, "Ayan, I’m a little scared."

"Don’t worry, I’m here," Fu Shiyan said as he carried her towards the bedroom and gently placed her on the bed. "Get some sleep first, I’ll go cook you some noodles."

An Yan shook her head, grasping his hand. "I have no appetite at all."

Fu Shiyan bent down and kissed her smooth forehead. "Then just get some sleep, I’ll be right here watching over you."

An Yan hummed in agreement, closed her eyes, and soon after, the sound of her even breathing could be heard.

The vibration of a mobile phone broke the silence, and Fu Shiyan answered the call.

"President Fu, An Jincheng died in a car accident. A drunk truck driver ran over his car from the back, causing instant death. The police are still investigating for more details."

Fu Shiyan narrowed his eyes. "Check the truck driver’s connections and recent account activity."

"Yes."

Just as An Yan’s past was revealed, An Jincheng met his demise, it seemed like someone didn’t want these matters to come to light.

Fu Shiyan looked at the sleeping face of An Yan, her brows still furrowed, and he stepped forward and gently smoothed them out.

The next day.

Fu Shiyan took An Yan to the hospital’s forensic department, receiving a test report from the staff.

As An Yan stared at the results on the paper, her fingers trembling slightly.

She had never doubted that she was An Zaili’s child, despite the way he treated her.

But the results told her she had no blood relation to An Zaili.

For twenty years, she had lived in lies and deception.

Fu Shiyan took the report, folded it neatly and placed it in a file bag, then wrapped his arm around her waist and guided her forward. "Bi Chong has gotten back to me, I’ve found your grandmother, I’ll take you to see her now."

Jiangcheng Third Psychiatric Hospital.

Accompanied by Fu Shiyan and Bi Chong, An Yan walked into the hospital ward.

There she saw an elderly lady with graying hair and sunken cheeks, strapped to a bed, muttering to herself.

Bi Chong said, "There are only two psychiatric hospitals in Jiangcheng, I checked every patient’s record and finally narrowed it down to someone fitting the age requirement. After comparison, this elderly woman is most likely the person we are looking for, since all her expenses are covered by a relative of Yang Suhua who lives afar."

An Yan stepped forward, seeing the old woman staring straight at the ceiling.

Bending down, she heard the woman murmuring, "A Zhen was murdered, A Zhen died so miserably, give my A Zhen back to me..."

Hearing this, An Yan’s brows locked in concern, could it be that her mother, Xu Zhen, was killed?

That year when she was five, An Zaili told her that her mother had passed away from lung cancer.

She was too young then to have any suspicions.

Later, she was sent to the countryside, and she only heard about her grandparents’ deaths after being adopted by Bi Mang.

She hadn’t expected that her grandmother hadn’t passed away at all, but had instead been committed to a mental hospital.

There was a problem here.

What was An Zaili hiding?

An Yan called for the doctor to inquire, "Does she say these words every day?"

The doctor nodded, "Indeed, since I took over this patient ten years ago, she repeats these words every day, appearing very frightened."

An Yan asked, "Is it possible to find the doctor in charge before you from ten years ago?"

The doctor shook his head, "I’m sorry, I really don’t know about that."

An Yan nodded slightly in acknowledgment and thanked the doctor.

Fu Shiyan placed his hand on her shoulder, "Let’s do a blood test first, and we’ll talk about what to do next afterward."

An Yan nodded.

The medical staff took blood from both the grandmother and An Yan and sent it to the hospital’s forensic department.

The next day, the test results came back.
