Chapter 88: Disaster

Mo Chou and Reaper were both highly trained assassins after all, so they didn’t panic or fumble when they realized that they were being followed.

"Any idea who it is? Should I lose them?" Reaper asked in a calm voice.

Mo Chou replied, " I have no idea on who it is but there’s no need to lose the car. Just act as if you didn’t notice anything."

"Sure haha, do you want to teach them a lesson?"

"I just want to give them a little ’warning’". Mo Chou said as she cracked her knuckles.

Reaper smirked and kept driving but instead of heading back to the Liu mansion, he directed the car towards his house instead.

Mo Chou was monitoring the car through the rear view mirror. She couldn’t see the driver but she noted the car number plate.

"Haa, it seems like the person following us is quite clever, they seemed to have figured out that we noticed ’’ Mo Chou said with interest.

"Ohhh, They’re trying to run away now. Do you want me to chase the car"? Reaper narrowed his eyes on the car.

"No need, the person following us seems quite clever. I don’t want to waste too much time in a car chase" Mo Chou said while yawning.

"Okay but beware of your surroundings, you seem to attract trouble no matter where you go" Reaper told Mo Chou sternly.

"Okay okay, don’t worry my child" Mo Chou said in her granny voice.

Reaper rolled his eyes but Mo Chou could see that the corner of his lips were curled.

Since their little stalker was gone, Reaper redirected the car to the Liu Mansion again.

It had been raining quite a bit since the morning. Mo Chou looked at the sky full of dark clouds and asked,"what was the weather forecast for today? Do you happen to know?"

"I haven’t checked but it should be fine since we’re heading home. I know a shortcut here, we’ll reach there in no time" Reaper replied in a confident tone.

Mo Chou smiled when she heard Reaper call Liu mansion his ’home’.

The rain was continuously pouring down and didn’t look like it was going to stop any minute. Since there was nothing much to do, Mo Chou took her phone out. There was still some time left before they reached home. She started replying to her friends’ texts.

They were concerned about her because she had skipped classes. They were also aware that Mo Chou had been dragged into a recent scandal by a lunatic for no reason.

Although Mo Chou was harmed in any way, her friends were worried that she would be feeling down because of everything.

Mo Chou assured everyone that everything was fine and that she would be attending classes the next day.

She saw that Lu Jinhai had also sent her a text asking her if she was fine. She was about to reply when she heard Reaper sigh, "haa, the rainfall seems to be getting more intense now".

Mo Chou looked up from her phone to look out of the car. They were currently on a hill road. It was the shortcut that Reaper had mentioned.

The road was not often used and barely had any cars passing through. Reaper had thought that they would get home faster because of the almost empty road but due to the heavy rain, he was being forced to drive cautiously.

As she was looking out of the car, Mo Chou noticed something concerning. The trees by the side of the road were a little tilted.

She immediately voiced her concern to Reaper who cursed loudly. Mo Chou also noticed that a faint rumbling sound could be heard even from inside the car and there was mud and small fallen rocks on the road as well. All of them were signs of a landslide and both Reaper and Mo Chou were aware of it.

"Big brother, stop the car!!!" Mo Chou shouted all of a sudden. Reaper braked the car just on time as the landslip right in front. His heart was beating so fast that it felt as if it was going to jump out of his chest the next second.

Being in the middle of a life threatening situation was quite common for Reaper but he had never really had such a close call with a natural disaster before.

Mo Chou was still analyzing the situation. It was like a switch had been flipped and there was no sign of the playful and cheerful girl anymore, only cold and calculative.

"We need to evacuate the car, it’s gonna get swept away", Mo Chou stated while watching the upward slope of the hill. There wasn’t any time to waste. Reaper took his phone and said,"don’t leave my side, little one, I’ll protect you this time, I promise".

Mo Chou knew that she couldn’t afford getting emotional at a crucial time like this so she just nodded. "Let’s go".

Reaper and Mo Chou exited the car together and started heading towards the direction they came from since the front was blocked. Reaper let Mo Chou walk in front of him so that he could protect her just in case.

They were moving uphill to try and avoid the landslide. Since Mo Chou was leading the way, Reaper took his phone out to try and contact the authorities to rescue them. Because of the rain, the call was not going through.

After walking for a few minutes, the call finally went through. Reaper informed them of the situation and tried to give their exact location.

Since they had to move uphill, they were not on the road anymore, so Mo Chou was focused on clearing the path but she was also paying attention to Reaper’s call.

All of a sudden, she heard a roaring sound.

"f**k, a flood is coming" Mo Chou warned him. Reaper hurriedly relayed it to the call operator.

Before they could hear the reply, the flood arrived and swept them away.

Lu Jinhai was looking at his phone wondering why Mo Chou hadn’t answered his texts. She seemed to have been typing a reply but then she was gone.

Somehow, he got a bad feeling. When he saw that even after waiting for a while there was no sign of her online, he decided to call her. The call failed to go through.

Lu Jinhai frowned and tried again. But even after he tried multiple times, none of his calls went through which concerned him. He was about to try again when he got a call from Huo Jichen.

He picked up the call and asked "what is it"?

Huo Jichen heard his boss’s voice and got nervous but he had been ordered to inform him of everything even remotely related to Mo Chou so he steeled himself and said, "There was a landslide and flash flood near the Liu Mansion".

Huo Jichen only heard silence from the other end of the phone which concerned him.

Finally, Lu Jinhai replied with an icy voice, "check all the CCTV cameras near the flooded area for a car. I’ll send you the photo".

Huo Jichen immediately relayed the order and forwarded the photo. Lu Jinhai hadn’t ended the call yet so he could only sit there waiting for further instructions.

Huo Jichen personally oversaw everything as their men searched through the CCTV footage. He saw that the same car had indeed headed towards the same place and hurriedly reported it to Lu Jinhai, "It seems like the car did indeed go through the road and right before the landslide too".

Lu Jinhai’s pupils constricted as his phone fell out of his grip.
