Chapter 74: Threat

Mo Chou finally took a long and relaxing bath, this time the butler had come to personally deliver clothes for her, even bringing five sets for her to choose from.

Mo Chou had chosen a t-shirt and shorts which were comfy. After finishing her bath, she wondered what Li Chen and Huang Chunhua were doing all this time. It was almost time for dinner so she went to their room to call them.

Mo Chou knocked on the door and a little tired looking Huang Chunhua opened it. She immediately found out as to why Huang Chunhua looked tired as she saw Li Chen jumping on the bed.

"Ohh, Mo Chou is here, come join me boss, the bed is so huge and bouncy. I absolutely love it" Li Chen called Mo Chou over.

"No thanks, aren’t you hungry yet"?

Li Chen seemed to have realized something all of a sudden and held her stomach, "ohh, I’m so hungry man, I could eat five bowls of rice. I wonder if dinner is ready yet".

Mo Chou laughed and answered, "It’s ready I guess, let’s go now Lu Jinhai is probably waiting for us".

Li Chen got excited again when she heard that the food was probably ready, "let’s go then, what are you waiting for"?

She didn’t forget to pull Huang Chunhua along as she exited the room. Huang Chunhua gave Mo Chou a helpless smile and tried to keep up with Li Chen.

’How can someone have that much energy?’ wondered Mo Chou.

The girls didn’t actually know where the dining room was located but when they went downstairs, they saw that the butler was waiting for them at the end of the stairs.

"Everyone must be hungry, please follow me. I will guide you to the dining room" the butler started walking after finishing his words.

Li Chen turned around and wiggled her eyebrows and pretended to fix her invisible bowtie making them giggle.

When they finally arrived at the dining room, they were almost dazzled by the sheer amount of food that was laid out on the table.

Mo Chou looked at Lu Jinhai who was already seated on a chair and asked, "we will not be able to finish all this food, it’s way too much. Won’t it go to waste"?

"Don’t worry, the leftover food will be distributed to the staff working in the mansion. Nothing will go to waste" Lu Jinhai reassured her.

Mo Chou nodded as that was what they did at Liu mansion too.

Everyone sat down and started piling up their plates without hesitation as they were used to eating together almost daily.

Li Chen was the most talkative one of course and kept praising the food, she even put on a badly butchered french accent making everyone laugh. Mo Chou was happy, Li Chen and Huang Chunhua had been a little reserved when they first started talking to her but now they were both completely at ease.

Today has been a memorable day for everyone.

After dinner was over, Li Chen proposed that the girls have a sleepover. Her and Huang Chunhua were already staying in the same room and she didn’t want Mo Chou to be alone. The bed was big enough to fit all three of them with plenty of space still left.

Mo Chou agreed but told her jokingly that she hoped that she would not keep her awake the whole night.

Lu Jinhai felt a little jealous when he heard their conversation but he couldn’t do anything about it, ’forget it, I already had a really good time thanks to my little rabbit’.

He told Mo Chou that there were extra blankets inside the closet just in case they needed more as it had started raining quite heavily now.

Mo Chou shifted her things to the room where Li Chen and Huang Chunhua were sleeping in.

Li Chen actually kept her promise and slept quietly after talking to them for a little while, she might have been really tired too.

Huang Chunhua pulled the blanket on Li Chen’s body considerably and whispered a good night to Mo Chou before she fell asleep too.

Mo Chou answered a few texts she had gotten from Mo Li and Liu Dai mainly asking if she was having a good time.

Finally, she put her phone down and slowly went to sleep.

Lu Jinhai’s room was on the same floor as the girl’s room. He had just finished taking a bath and was towel drying his hair when it started thundering.

’I hope my little rabbit is not scared of thunder,’ he thought. How he wished he could hug his little rabbit to sleep. She was so near but far at the same time.

All of a sudden, he heard a loud thunder accompanied by lightning and the lights in the room went out.

Lu Jinhai would have normally just let the servants fix it, but he was concerned about Mo Chou and her friends so he exited his room and started heading downstairs to see what the problem was.

He had walked just a few steps when his phone started ringing. He paused his steps as only the calls from a few selected people would make his phone ring, especially his private phone.

Lu Jinhai took his phone out from his pocket and looked at the caller id. The incoming call was from someone unexpected, ’she doesn’t usually call me, is there an emergency’?

Lu Jinhai had no choice but to pick up the call as he could not ignore her calls without bringing trouble onto himself.

’I hope she makes it quick, I need to fix the lights’.

Lu Jinhai pressed the answer button, before he could say anything or even greet her, the person on the other end said, " I hope you don’t disappoint me by making me regret my decision to let you act freely my son".

Lu Jinhai got a little angry, this woman who called herself his mother but he had never gotten a single ounce of love or heard any motherly words from her.

"I don’t think you have the right to take away my freedom, I am not that little kid who was always scared of you anymore and I have my own things, don’t act like you care and forget about interrupting my life" Lu Jinhai said vehemently.

"Haa, it seems like the maids’ words were true, you truly have been bewitched by some little girl. You know me the best, don’t you dear son. I hope that girl, whoever she is,doesn’t come seeking you again and stays away from you or I will have to take some measures myself. You know what I am capable of after all".

With that, the person on the other side cut the call.

Lu Jinhai felt his anger rising to the point of no return, he didn’t even want to hear anymore words from his ’mother’. His fists were clenched so tight that his phone was actually crushed but Lu Jinhai didn’t realize it.

He took his anger out by throwing his phone which ended up hitting the decorative vase kept in the hallway and shattering it.

Mo Chou was woken up by a loud noise, it sounded like something shattering. Li Chen and Huang Chunhua were deep asleep but Mo Chou who had always been alert was immediately awoken by the noise.

Countless possibilities went through her head regarding the noise but she decided to check it out herself.

Without making any noise, she opened the door to the room and went out.

To her surprise, she saw Lu Jinhai in the hallway standing still as if he was frozen. She looked around and saw the broken vase and damaged phone and figured out what had made the noise.

It was a little dark but Mo Chou’s vision was spectacular and she could still see pretty clearly due to the lightning flashing as the windows weren’t covered.

Mo Chou was a little concerned so she approached Lu Jinhai slowly and said in a low voice, "Lu Jinhai? Are you okay?"

To her surprise, Lu Jinhai didn’t answer her, in fact he didn’t show any indication that he had heard her, he just seemed to be in a daze.

As Mo Chou came closer, she saw that Lu Jinhai’s hand was actually bleeding, ’did he crush his phone with his hand? What exactly happened all of a sudden’.

"Jinhai, your hand is bleeding. Let me treat it for you", Mo Chou said a little loudly and even snapped her fingers making Lu Jinhai finally come out of his frozen stage.

He seemed surprised to see Mo Chou and looked at his hand which was bleeding.

"Let’s go to your room, I’ll treat it there" ordered Mo Chou.

Lu Jinhai didn’t say anything and just turned around and went to his room with Mo Chou following behind.

Mo Chou entered his room and told him to sit down on his bed, and then without saying anything, she entered his bathroom and rummaged around for the first aid box.

After she found it, Mo Chou sat beside Lu Jinhai and silently treated his wounds.

Mo Chou knew that Lu Jinhai was probably not in a state where he wanted to talk so she just silently gave him comfort the best she could.

After she was all done, Mo Chou presumed that Lu Jinhai probably needed some space, so she stood up to go but suddenly Lu Jinhai held her hand and pulled her into his arms.

"Don’t go just yet, please stay".
