Chapter 35: Surprise surprise

Mo Chou felt something brush past her face, it was soft and a little ticklish. She frowned in her sleep but didn’t wake up. She was having a nice dream of relaxing on the beach when she felt something on her neck, she immediately woke up and sat up on the bed. To her horror, the little devil kitten was on her bed, sleeping on her pillow.

Mo Chou immediately jumped up and got out of the bed without making any noise. She was scared that she would wake the kitten up and it would chase after her. After successfully getting out of the bed, she calmed down a little. ’How am I going to get rid of this ’devil’?

She couldn’t let anyone know that she was terrified of cats, as it would be too unusual. She thought for a while and had an idea. She had a little snack corner in her room where she kept all kinds of snacks.

Mo Chou took a packet of beef jerky that was in the snacks corner and lined it up on the floor carefully. She then took the rest of the beef jerky in her hands and went inside her closet. Her closet was huge and could easily fit her and there was a door as well. She didn’t completely close the door and left a little space to fit her hand.

Mo Chou then took a piece of beef jerky and threw it at the little kitten but Baobao didn’t even move. Frustrated, she tried again and after three more times, Baobao finally woke up. First it finished stretching lazily and then finally started eating the jerky.

After Baobao finished eating the piece, Mo Chou threw another one on the edge of the bed just in case. To her relief, Baobao followed the pieces of beef jerky and walked to the door. Mo Chou watched from her hidden spot as the kitten finally went outside the room.

’Why did it feel like the kitten gave me a funny look before it went?’

Mo Chou didn’t think about it as it was probably her overactive imagination and silently walked to the door and locked it.

"Phew, that was a close call".she said as she patted her chest. ’How did it enter the room anyway? I always lock the door before sleeping and my room is on the second floor, ’ Mo Chou wondered. It was really a mystery.

She decided that she would make an excuse to lock the cat in its room and not let it out so that this wouldn’t happen again.

Mo Chou looked at the time and started getting ready for university, usually she would laze around in bed a little after waking up but she didn’t want to today due to the fright she just experienced.

She looked at the closet and wondered what to wear. She had completely gotten rid of her old clothes and filled her closet with stylish but comfy clothes. There were also a lot of dresses, mostly given to her by Mo Li.

Mo Chou usually wore something basic and comfy and wondered if she should try something different. She finally decided to wear a dress given to her by Mo Li, it was white with peach colored flowers and hit her knees. The material was comfy and the dress was pretty modest, only revealing her slender neck.

Mo Chou suddenly remembered that she hadn’t opened the present that Lu Jinhai had given her. She had pretty much forgotten about it and felt guilty. Lu Jinhai had even posted about her presents on his moment and she hadn’t even bothered opening his.

Mo Chou opened it and found a delicate looking necklace inside. It was a teardrop necklace. She looked at it closely and found that she liked it very much. She decided to wear it as it would look good with the dress she was wearing.

When Mo Chou looked at herself in the mirror, she was stunned. ’I-I look gorgeous’, She couldn’t stop admiring herself. ’I am going to turn into a major narcissist,’ she thought to herself.

Mo Chou then headed to the kitchen to have breakfast, to her surprise everyone was already there but hadn’t started eating yet. When everyone saw her after she entered the dining room, they were stunned.

Mo Li was first to recover and immediately started praising Mo Chou’s looks which made her blush. "My genetics are really the best," she said, praising herself in the process too.

Everyone else: ’...’

Liu Dai and Liu Qiang did agree on the fact that Mo Chou looked beautiful. Liu Qiang even wanted to take a photo of her so that he could show off his daughter to his friends. Liu Dai on the other hand got a little worried, his sister was already outstanding now and if she even dressed up like this, she might get stolen away.

He really liked this new feeling of closeness with his family and didn’t want it to be disrupted just because of some ’brat’.

Still, Liu Dai knew that Mo Chou loved her freedom and he couldn’t stop her from dressing up.

Everyone had breakfast happily except for poor Liu Dai.

Mo Chou headed to Capital University after saying goodbye to everyone. Lu Jinhai was actually waiting for her again at the entrance of the University. Mo Chou felt strange, ’Doesn’t it seem too much like a boyfriend waiting for his girlfriend?’she thought but quickly shook her head.

’I really shouldn’t entertain such thoughts, Lu Jinhai and I are purely friends’.

When she reached Lu Jinhai, the tips of Mo Chou’s ears were red. Lu Jinhai gave her a knowing look before saying "good morning" which made her even more embarrassed.

Lu Jinhai on the other hand kept a straight face but only he knew that his heart was racing. His little rabbit looked absolutely adorable today and she had even worn the necklace that he had gifted her. The jade-like skin on her slender neck made him want to bite it. If not for his out of the world self control, he would have really done something absurd.

Still, Lu Jinhai calmed himself. After walking a little with Mo Chou, he actually started frowning. Mo Chou really looked like a fairy today and the students around couldn’t help but stare at her. She was already very popular in the entire university and some students were even secretly taking pictures of her.

Lu Jinhai felt that it would have been better if she had dressed like how she usually did. She already looked eye-catching and this took it to another level. ’Should I get her a coat?’ He thought but rejected it as it would attract even more attention with the hot weather. A coat wouldn’t be enough to hide her beauty anyway.

Lu Jinhai could only try to block everyone’s view of Mo Chou. They met up with Li Chen and Huang Chunhua as usual who showered Mo Chou with compliments. They asked her where she had gotten her dress from and praised Mo Li’s taste when they heard that it was given to her by Mo Li. Mo Chou was also very happy with all the praise from her friends. ’I should dress up like this more often’.

They all headed to their respective classes like everyday. Lu Jinhai was like a bodyguard and would give anyone who looked at Mo Chou a frosty look, scaring the person but Mo Chou had no idea as she was busy talking to Li Chen.

Lu Jinhai only relaxed when the class started and everyone’s attention was on the teacher. He could finally admire his rabbit in peace. He took a strand of Mo Chou’s silky hair and played with it the entire class enjoying her little blush and how she would give him a disapproving look every time he pulled it a little.

The rest of the day went similarly and Mo Chou couldn’t wait to get home by the end of the classes. She felt that she was going to turn into a tomato permanently the way she kept blushing. She couldn’t help but let her thoughts wander when she felt Lu Jinhai play with her hair but every time she sneaked a look at him, his face always had a normal expression of boredom. ’Ugh, I’m going to go insane, don’t forget that you are a badass assassin Mo Chou, not a love struck little girl’.

She hurriedly headed home after saying goodbye to everyone. When she reached home, she took out her frustrations by working out till her muscles screamed in pain then she took a long cold shower and finally cleared her head.

Looking at the time, it was already time for dinner, so she headed to the dining room. No one had actually mentioned it but everyone who was at home would arrive for dinner everyday at around the same time since the first family dinner after her parents had come back from abroad.

Dinner went like usual, everyone ate and talked mostly answering Mo Li as she questioned each of them about their day.

Mo Chou finally felt calm and relaxed during dinner surrounded by her family. After dinner was over, Mo Chou and Liu Dai stood up from their chairs to go to their room when Mo Li nudged her husband. Liu Qiang looked at her questioningly then finally remembered something.

"Ahem, sit down both of you, I still have something to say"

Mo Chou and Liu Dai looked at each other and sat down. Liu Qiang then said "We are expecting a guest in two days".

Liu Dai asked, "Who is it dad"?

"Your fiance".
