Space Odyssey: Spectre -
Chapter 191 191: Making Friends
He moved toward the Mar'talic. Closing in so he was too close for the alien to use its spear. His knife was sparking as he brushed up the side of the spear. He stepped inside of the alien's space and elbowed it in the chest. Causing it to trip over his leg.
The spearman fell on his back while the Accer closed in to fight him off. Jace had to move back away from the collapsed Mar'talic. The sword sliced through the air where he was standing a moment ago.
He ran at the Accer hitting him with his shoulder forcing the Accer back. Then before the Accer could react Jace stabbed the knife into a gap between the armor. The shield glowed blue for a moment before it disappeared and then his knife disappeared into the gap between the armor.
The Accer screeched loudly as he scratched at Jace's armor. But the claw just bounced off of the yellow hexagonal pattern that appeared.
Jace pulled the knife through and a fountain of blood spilled out as Jace spun around turning his attention back to the Mar'talic which screeched and stabbed at him.
Jace dropped to the ground while grabbing the head of the spear. He kicked upward as he fell. The maneuver had him falling on his back but he was kicking the spear and the spearman through the window.
It yelled something as it flew out the window, flailing its hands. But Jace turned his attention to the bleeding Accer as even injured he was fighting back. "Human! Scum!" It spoke in a broken Vexical dialect.
Jace deflected one of its strikes using his knife. He then moved behind the Accer, using the chance to cut through another gap in his armor. As he moved around he avoided getting in front of the Accer. He had only fought them a few times but had noticed the flaw in the Accer race's fighting style.
Their fighting style fails to account for getting attacked from behind. Humans on the other hand have developed a vast array of fighting styles due to their years of infighting and backstabbing. On the other hand, Accers probably does not have such a history. Because instead of trying to get away, the Accer attempted to turn around.
Jace grabbed the bottom of the Accer's armored beaked mouth and then drove his knife across the Accer's neck. It dropped its sword and tried to stop the spray of blood. But it only took a moment before it collapsed on the ground.
Jace took only a moment before moving toward the next room. But before he ran in he saw the occupants turned to mist and broken metal as a barrage of bullets went through the room.
He stopped in his tracks and checked his heads up display. The ones firing into the room he was just about to run into were Ulin and Charlie. Seems they managed to take control of the rooms near the VIPs. "Have you finished loading the VIPs onto the ship?" Jace asked as he took a moment to catch his breath.
"Umm…" Vana did not even get a chance to respond before a new voice cut in.
"I ordered your squad to prioritize the injured-"
"Vana, get the VIPs on board. If I have to come over there, I will put a bullet in the injured heads so there would be no point in extracting them." Jace ordered, he saw the person speaking was labeled as the High Priestess, he then muted her comms before she could refuse or respond. But he could still hear the High Priestess yelling and cursing in anger in the distance.
"Already making friends?" Ulin chuckled.
"You have your orders. Drag them onto the transport if you have to." Jace ordered as he walked back through the rooms he tore through. He sheathed his knife as he moved back through. When he arrived back in the room he barged in through he saw a female Mar'talic yelling angrily at Vana as Vana forced one of the VIPs onto the transport which was hovering out of the window.
His HUD had her labeled as the High Priestess. He ignored her and instead looked at how many VIPs they had left to get on the transport. They had only three left including the High Priestess.
The transport was almost full with the door on the opposite side closed. So instead of being gentle about it he grabbed the other two, one of which was an old Mar'talic man who seemed to be trying to back up the High Priestess the other was a skinny four armed blue skinned alien he had yet to know the name of.
He threw both of them out the window and into the transport. Into the arms of a pair of soldiers who had the Cerberus emblem on their shoulders. "Strap them in!" Jace ordered and then turned to the High Priestess.
"I will have you know-" She began berating him now that he was in front of her.
"Spectre Jace! We have missiles inbound!" The human pilot yelled over the communication channel catching all of their attention. Jace cursed and threw the High Priestess over his shoulder. He then jumped out of the window and onto the edge of the transport entrance. He then tossed her into the bewildered arms of the others.
He slid the transport's door closed. "You are packed! Get back to the Venture!" Jace jumped off the side of the transport just as it ducked away. He landed on the slanted roof just in time to see the transport plummet down the side of the building.
Jace cursed as he saw the rockets that the pilot was talking about. There were three of them. Two of them began directing as soon as the transport moved. But one of the missiles stayed on course. "We have a missile inbound for the tower." Jace informed them. "Cerberus Squad members still in the tower. Take the injured up to the roof. Then take the ship up there to the Venture." Jace climbed up to the window and jumped back in.
"Understood, how much time do we have?" A voice who his HUD labeled as Nila asked with what sounded like an exhausted voice.
Jace looked at the missile, "it will destroy this side of the tower and at least one floor up and down in roughly one minute." He pulled the railgun off his back. He then turned to Vana and nodded up to where they were moving the others. She nodded and ran to help them.
Jace aimed the railgun and inserted a metal bullet into the firing chamber. He then channeled the electricity sourcing through his body into the railgun. He then felt the electricity coursing through the floor and pulled it into his body through the floor he was standing on.
The railgun began humming. The firing chamber and magnetic barrel began lighting up, glowing blue. After a few moments it began sparking with electricity arcing off the barrel and he took aim. He aimed toward one of the missiles that were redirecting toward the transport.
VROOM!
The railgun became red and the barrel and firing chamber began radiating heat. They were glowing red as a hissing noise could faintly be heard.
While the bullet he fired left a streak of blue in the air after he fired the railgun. It hit one of the missiles and the missile exploded with a plume of plasma energy. The streak of blue and presumably the bullet went beyond that, disappearing into the sky.
"What was that?" He heard a bewildered voice ask over the communication channel. They were just labeled as a guard and not a member of his squad, they were also clearly using a translator device.
"I assume that was the railgun, that was loud as hell." Charlie pointed out, "what did you do to get it to make a noise like that?"
"I supercharged the railgun. I will not need to do that again. I think I penetrated a ship that was in orbit around the planet." Jace chuckled as he held the railgun off to the side. It was cooling off slowly but he would still have an opportunity to shoot it again in a few minutes. But for the moment he could not attach it magnetically to his back. He walked to a window and jumped out.
He began sliding down the slanted roof. Then just as the missile impacted the side of the building he came off the roof and began dropping down to another slanted roof. The missile shook the side of the building and a bunch of debris came flying off.
Jace could hear people grunting over the communication link as the building shook and cracks spread throughout the building. Jace pulled out his knife and stabbed into the side of the building as he landed on the slanted roof. Preventing him from falling further down. He then backed up as the rubble crashed into the slanted part of the roof, sheathing his knife.
