Chapter 1061: Chapter 124 : Fear
*Lucas*
“We should have heard something by now,” I growled.
Sasha nuzzled her nose against my chest. “You think Stone will announce where they are going?”
I sighed and lazily stroked my fingers through her hair, staring at my bedroom ceiling.
“No, probably not. But we’re running out of options. Brady’s tracking abilities aren’t getting us anywhere. We don’t have the resources for this.”
Sasha slipped her arms around my chest and hugged me tightly. I smiled a little and gave her a squeeze. I promised myself I would never take these moments for granted again, not after being without her for so long.
“Maybe you should reach out to Xander and Lena. If it’s a resource issue, I’m sure they can help.” She pulled away from me and started getting dressed.
I held my arms out, silently wishing she’d return. “I don’t know. The two of them have helped us out a lot already. I don’t want to go crawling to them every time we need something.”
“Lucas, they are willing to help. This is their reality too, and if Stone is out there messing with the future orb again, they’ll want to stop it.”
I watched as Sasha put on her work clothes. She really did like the job that the alternate Sasha got for her and she was doing her best to make it work, despite everything else that was going on.
“You’re right. I should go to them.”
“I wish I could come with you, but I’m trying not to be a flaky employee. Once we have a baby to take care of, I’ll want to keep working.”
I got out of bed and pulled Sasha into my arms. “I wish you could come too. I’ll handle this. Just focus on your job.” I kissed the tip of her nose.
Sasha giggled and squirmed out of my grasp. “Say hello to Lena and Xander for me.”
“I will.”
I saw Sasha off to work and had Ian drive me to the palace. By now, Xander and Lena seemed to always expect us now. I’d never been turned away by them and hadn’t been making appointments.
“Lucas, welcome back.” Xander gave me a lopsided smile.
“I’m sorry to come by unannounced, but time does matter in this instance.”
Xander nodded. “I’m surprised I haven’t seen you sooner, given everything with the alternate Sasha at the Lycaon Church.”
“Yeah, and it just gets stranger. She’s run off.”
Xander blinked at me. “She ran away, with your baby?”
“Yes. Once my Sasha returned home... she couldn’t take it, I guess. I think she thought we’d live happily ever after and when that wasn’t possible, she ran.”
Lena came into the room, her face whiter than usual. She came right up to me and grabbed my hand. “The other Sasha and your unborn baby are in the wind?”
“That’s the current problem. We tracked her to a coffee shop and from there...”
I sighed and bowed my head. “She met up with Stone. In the security video, it looks like she left with him.”
“Stone?” Xander growled.
“Apparently, he’s still a major threat. We thought he was deep in hiding but he must have been watching us. That’s the only way he could know.”
“I doubt he was watching you on his own. Stone is connected to Morianne and she’s connected to the church. They have spies everywhere.”
“I let my guard down. It shouldn’t have happened. I find myself in need of your help once more.”
I dropped down on a knee in front of Xander and Lena.
Xander scoffed. “You don’t need to show us that kind of respect or formality, Lucas,” Lena said, touching my shoulder. “And you don’t need to ask. This is about your unborn child. We’ll help.”
“Agreed,” Xander nodded. “We all have reasons to want to see your child safe. We also have reason to want Stone out of the picture.”
“I think he has the future orb, too. Otherwise, where does he think he’ll hide her in this reality?”
“It’s a good bet,” Lena agreed. “Lucas, you have all our resources behind you.”
“Thank you.”
“I’ll send out some of our best trackers to go after Stone and the alternate Sasha. We’ll increase the number of guards on our patrols. I’ll even put out an urgent bulletin with Sasha’s description to keep all our citizens on high alert.”
“Thank you, both of you, again.” I bowed my head to them respectfully.
I was comforted by Xander and Lena’s willingness to help. They kept coming through for us, no matter the circumstances. I would never stop trying to pay them back for what they did.
When I got home, Sasha was there too. We had a quick dinner and laid down on the couch together. I hugged her against my chest and rubbed her back.
“So, we have Xander and Lena on our side?” Sasha asked.
“They’re going to do what they can. I’m still worried about our baby, Sasha.” I hugged her close and ran my nose through her hair.
“I’m worried too. I do think the other Sasha really wants to keep the baby safe.”
“That doesn’t mean Stone wants that, or that he’ll comply with her wishes.”
“I can try to connect with her again. I mean, I have all the powers of a goddess, right? Shouldn’t I be able to do something?”
“Don’t push yourself, Sasha. We’ll need all our strength and your power once we find her and Stone.”
She nodded against my chest and let out a long, slow breath. Her entire body relaxed against me, turning into a puddle of mush in my grasp. I inhaled her delicious scent and rubbed her back gently.
The mate bond thrummed between us. We fell into a perfect moment of silence. I just enjoyed the moment, feeling our mate bond strengthening as we lay together. It was a perfect, peaceful moment with chaos all around us.

*Sasha*
There weren’t any peaceful, tranquil pools here for me to sit by while accessing my powers. I’d been able to control them so well in the Realm of the White Queen. I hadn’t tried to use them here yet.
While Lucas was out tracking with Xander’s best trackers, I headed to the campus. There was a fountain in the quad with some benches around it. In the warmer weather, they put goldfish in the fountain.
It was a weekend and the campus was mostly empty. I sat on one of the benches and stared at the swimming goldfish. They circled this way and that, fluttering about. Every now and then, one would poke its mouth out of the water and make kissy faces.
I closed my eyes and thought of the tranquility I felt when I was in the Realm of the White Queen.
That warm, comfortable, peace came over me and I reached deep inside my well of magic and drew out my power. I thought of the alternate Sasha and of making a connection with her.
Flickers of images and visions flashed in my mind. I saw several versions of myself across many realities, but I knew right away none of them were the Sasha I was looking for.
I saw one playing with a young child, Lucas standing in the yard and watching them together. I saw another Sasha working hard on blueprints, Lucas leaning over her, brushing his fingers through her hair. There was another Sasha sitting with her mom on a porch while Lucas played with two children in the front yard.
Tears pricked my eyes as I saw all the beautiful realities where Lucas and I were happy and had a family.
The images shifted. There were other Sashas that didn’t look so good.
I saw one version alone in a dark place. She was huddled in a corner. There was another Sasha that was sitting alone in a rocking chair, her face pale. She had a blanket wrapped around her but just stared off into space.
My heart went out to all of them, the ones going through the highs of life and the lows. There was a part of me that wished I could go to each reality where a Sasha was struggling and help her.
I knew I couldn’t do that. It would put more strain on all the realities.
The visions flickered by so quickly. I could barely see anything beyond the first image before it was gone.
Suddenly, I slammed back into my body.
“Dammit!” I groaned and slumped forward. Something was blocking me. Did that mean I was getting close to finding the Sasha I was looking for?
Stone had her hidden well. He’d probably learned about some ways to hide her with magic while he was hanging around with Morianne and the Lycaon Church.
Between the church and the future orb, he had a lot of power and could hide Sasha effectively.
I wasn’t going to let this defeat me. I closed my eyes again and took another deep breath. I had the power of a goddess, and I wasn’t going to be stopped by some creep like Stone who had a few tricks up his sleeves.
I focused on the alternate Sasha and the moment that my powers had been blocked. Quickly, I came up against the block again. My focus was only on the alternate Sasha, so I knew she was behind the block.
I called on more of my power. All this time, I’d been holding back because I didn’t want to lose control again. I forced myself through the barrier and instantly connected with the alternate Sasha.
My heart fluttered. She wasn’t trying to block me this time, I could tell. She was open and receptive to my presence, but I couldn’t see her like I could the other Sashas.
As quickly as my relief came, it pulled out from under me like a rug. I was overwhelmed as the other Sasha’s panic and fear overpowered me. I could barely focus on her and I couldn’t see anything.
She was panicking, trying to hold onto me.
I tried to soothe her with my thoughts and ask her to calm down, but I couldn’t get through.
Her fear overpowered my thoughts and I could finally tell why she was so afraid. She wasn’t worried about where she was or who she was with. She wasn’t even worried about her own safety. It was all fear for the baby.
My heart pounded and I tried desperately to hold onto my connection with Sasha through her fear. I wanted to know what was threatening the baby that had her so worried.
The connection started to slip.
“No, don’t let go,” I whispered. “I’m right here. I’m coming for you and the baby. Don’t let anything happen!”
Our connection broke. I gasped and panted. Pitching forward, I fell off the bench and landed on my hands and knees on the stones of the quad.
Desperation filled me. What was wrong with the baby?
