Chapter 264: Chapter 264 Lu Lianlian

After breakfast, Lun Wanli handed the car keys to Lu Ruisheng, "If you two need anything, just go out and buy it."

Lu Ruisheng didn’t want to go out; their goal was focused on Lun Wanli’s phone calls and meetings, those work secrets.

So he said, "Grandpa, we don’t need anything; we’ve just arrived, so we should spend more time with you at home."

Lun Wanli was naturally pleased and nodded repeatedly, "Good, good, stay at home then."

Huang Suzhen wanted them to go out, so she could have her grandson show off his skills in front of the old man, but why wouldn’t these two leave?

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng sat down beside Lun Wanli very naturally, and began to discuss their thoughts about the apocalypse with him.

Lun Wanli really enjoyed hearing their insights, and at this moment, Lu Ruiming seemed quite out of place.

In order to give her grandson a stage on which to display his talents, Huang Suzhen remembered that Lu Ruiming used to play Go with Lun Wanli frequently as a child. When Lu Ruiming was abroad, Huang Suzhen would remind him on every phone call not to forget to improve his Go skills—it was the easiest way to grasp the old man’s heart.

So she quickly found the Go set, "Mingming used to love playing Go with you, Grandpa. It’s been so many years; hurry and have a match with him."

Lu Ruiming’s face was becoming the color of a purple eggplant; the little Go he knew as a child had long been forgotten, and he hadn’t liked it in the first place. It was just a hobby class that his grandmother had signed him up for as a child—what could a kid do but go along?

He hadn’t learned particularly well, but he was young back then, and his grandfather playing Go with him was essentially just spoiling him.

Later, after leaving the Capital City, whenever his grandmother called, she would nag him to learn Go. After hearing it so often, he started to resent it, so he tossed everything related to Go away, and now it seemed he had no memory of Go at all.

At this moment, he didn’t even know how to refuse; he really looked terrible.

Huang Suzhen hadn’t noticed this and happily placed the Go board on the coffee table.

Lun Wanli really did like to play Go, and hearing Huang Suzhen’s words, he too remembered Lu Ruiming playing Go with him as a child—weak and small, with a face covered in red spots, sitting across from him, and now, in the blink of an eye, the child had grown up.

He called to Lu Ruiming, "Mingming, come and play a few games with Grandpa."

Lu Ruiming hesitated and didn’t want to go over.

However, Huang Suzhen didn’t think much of it at the time and pulled Lu Ruiming to sit across from Lun Wanli.

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng also sat down beside them, more curious than ever—how could someone like Lu Ruiming calm down to play chess?

Sure enough, while they were perplexed, they watched as Lu Ruiming played a mess of a game, sweating profusely with a flushed face.

Now Huang Suzhen realized something was wrong, too, and quickly looked for an out, touching Lu Ruiming’s forehead, "Mingming, are you sick?"

Lu Ruiming finally found an excuse and quickly nodded, "Yeah, I think I might have a cold."

Lun Wanli’s brows knitted tightly; a cold didn’t mean he couldn’t play—Lu Ruiming’s moves didn’t follow any principle; it was almost as if he didn’t know how to play.

He felt more and more disappointed with this grandson; until now, aside from being able to talk, he seemed unable to do much of anything.

Watching Huang Suzhen help Lu Ruiming upstairs.

Lu Ruisheng took a seat opposite Lun Wanli, "Let me play a game with Grandpa."

Lun Wanli nodded without much expectation but as they played, he became increasingly tense—he was already at a disadvantage.

After Huang Suzhen helped Lu Ruiming upstairs and closed the door, she asked, "What’s the matter?"

Lu Ruiming said awkwardly, "I haven’t played Go for many years. I had no one to play with when I went abroad, and after the apocalypse, there was even less opportunity."

Huang Suzhen was furious, "Do you know that playing Go is the best way to build a relationship? You ignored all the advice and nagging—why didn’t you listen?"

Lu Ruiming had never thought that one day he would need to use this to curry favor with people. What could he say now?

Huang Suzhen told Lu Ruiming to rest; she planned to hurry downstairs to help Lu Ruiming explain things to Lu Wanli.

Yet, when she had gone downstairs, she saw Lu Ruisheng and the old patriarch deeply engrossed in their conversation, with the old man’s eyes filled with nothing but admiration for Lu Ruisheng.

Huang Suzhen felt like she was going to die of anger. Lu Ruisheng, who had been brought up in the orphanage, why was everything about him so exceptional?

Gu Pan looked at Huang Suzhen and saw the bitterness in her eyes, but it didn’t matter. They had also come for revenge, so it was a matter of who was more formidable.

The day passed relatively peacefully; by evening, Lu Jianshe and Su Qing had both come back for dinner.

However, that day, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng didn’t get much more information. Of course, they couldn’t rush things.

Two days later, after midnight, the sky started to darken. Although it would become light quite early the next day, Gu Pan knew that the polar day was ending, and soon it would be polar night.

Meanwhile, the headquarters had begun preparing for the polar night.

Naturally, these two days also saw an increase in phone calls from Lu Wanli.

Lu Ruisheng had left a recording pen in the old patriarch’s study, knowing some of the headquarters’ responses to the polar night, but they had yet to obtain the coordinates for Mount Everest.

Nevertheless, they had gained another useful piece of information: the base was building escape pods, and both Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng wanted one. They needed to figure out a way to get one without exposing themselves. They had space, but their friends and Lu Jianguo did not. If there really was an urgent situation, it could save their lives.

By evening, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng met their nominal aunt, Lu Lianlian, for the first time.

Lu Lianlian had come by herself, dressed in professional attire, looking very capable.

She entered the room and headed straight to Huang Suzhen, "Mom, I heard Shengsheng has been found. Why didn’t anyone let me know?"

Huang Suzhen took Lu Lianlian’s hand: "We knew you were all busy, and since they’ll all be here from now on, there was no rush."

Lu Lianlian looked at Lu Ruisheng: "So this is Shengsheng?"

Lu Ruisheng greeted her politely: "Hello, little aunt, I am Lu Ruisheng."

Naturally, Gu Pan also followed with a greeting: "Hello, little aunt, I am Gu Pan, Lu Ruisheng’s wife."

Lu Lianlian smiled, "Good, good. Look at me, I came here unprepared. I’ll make up for the welcome gift later."

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng hurriedly said it wasn’t necessary with polite modesty.

At that time, Lu Ruiming came over with red eyes: "Little aunt, I’ve missed you so much."

Lu Lianlian went over and hugged Lu Ruiming, patting his back: "You rascal, why do you still look so young?"

Although her words were drenched in affection, Lu Ruiming really didn’t like to hear that.

Huang Suzhen disliked it too: "Who speaks of their nephew like that?"

Lu Lianlian said with a smile: "I’m just joking, aren’t I?" After speaking, she looked around and asked Huang Suzhen, "Mom, where is dad?"

Huang Suzhen replied, "Your dad’s upstairs in the study, he’s been busy these past two days. Do you have something you need from him?"

As they were talking, Lu Wanli came down from the stairs: "You never think to come back unless you need something."

Lu Lianlian went over, helping Lu Wanli down the stairs with a flattering tone, "Dad, it’s not like what you said, is it?"

To this point, neither Gu Pan nor Lu Ruisheng could ascertain Lu Lianlian’s character, but she didn’t seem to place much importance on family ties.
