Chapter 254: Blueberries?

Chapter 254: Blueberries?

At the beginning of their journey. Emily had held on to the hope that they were not going anywhere too far. That wherever it was that Derek had decided that the two of them just had to be. It was at most around 30 minutes out of the city. Given the slow, leisurely pace that Derek was driving at, she had assumed that that would be the case.

Emily had never known him to be patient when it came to long car trips, so she had been banking on that. As it turned out, she had been very wrong.

Her mistake had been in assuming that, Derek, just because he hated being cooped up in a car for too long while working. Would also hate the feeling when traveling for leisure.

Clearly she had been wrong. In her defence, Emily had held on for as long as she could. She had lain in her seat, her eyes closed.

Just enjoying sensing things around her. Then she had even taken some time to enjoy the music. Singing along with Derek until that too had gotten boring. Then of course she had passed time by feeding him. Not stopping until she was certain that he was satisfied.

Only then had she turned to herself, enjoying the snacks that she had brought along with gusto. But now Emily was beginning to wonder if maybe she should have saved some of the food, and water that she had brought along.

They were inching closer to the hour mark. Trees and buildings that had been off in the distance, were now disappearing behind them. But still Derek showed no sign of slowing down or stopping. He drove and drove until Emily began to feel antsy. What if Derek’s idea of going out was actually a cross-country road trip. What if he had decided that they needed to go over the border in order for him to show that he could be romantic.

Just to be on the safe side, Emily decided to just go ahead and ask Derek.

"Where exactly is it that we are going? As scenic and peaceful as this drive has been. I think it would be even better for me if I knew what the final destination was," She told him. In response he shrugged. The car slowing down a bit.

"I can’t tell you where we are going. It is a surprise," He told her.

Not willing to give up that quickly, Emily decided to go a different route. "Alright, since you cannot tell me, how about I try to guess?" She asked him. He merely shrugged. And she took that

as a, yes.

"Are we going somewhere with lots of water?" She asked. Derek laughed.

"If I were to take you to a factory that sold bottled water, would that be romantic?" Emily rolled her eyes.

"Derek, you know very well I did not mean that kind of water. I mean are we going to the beach? Is it a lake? Or are you taking me to some river?" She asked. Eyes on the road, Derek smiled.

"Would I really be cruel enough to take my girlfriend who cannot swim. To places that are well known for being where swimming occurs as a first date?" He asked.

Emily had to give it to him. He was right. Going someplace with water would not be a good date at all.

Moving on, she started throwing more questions at him. Hoping that he would slip, and give away information that she could use to guess where he was taking her.

" Are there children?" She asked.

"Everybody is somebody’s child, so we are all children in a sense," Biting back a frustrated groan. Emily tried something else.

"Are there animals?" Again, he shrugged, his answer evasive.

"Human beings are animals. Do you mean you and I? Or do you mean animals like sharks and bears,"

Emily was pretty sure that if she disqualified people as being counted amongst the animals, and tried to narrow down what animals, if any, could be there. Derek would find a way to twist it all around, and leave her more confused. So she let that topic go.

Going out on a limb, she decided to pick a subject at random. One that would not be so easy for him to talk his way around.

"Are we going blueberry picking?" She asked him. Blueberry muffins were Derek’s favorite food. It would make a whole lot of sense for him to take her blueberry picking.

Emily could just see it. The two of them walking amongst the fields. Tiny baskets in hand. Then later on, their faces, hands and clothes just stained through. They would head back to the penthouse and try their hand at baking.

Enjoying the literal fruits or in that case berries of their labour.

Instead of instantly saying something that would leave her confused like he had the other times. Derek stalled, humming under his breath as he thought. Then he glanced over at her before going back to the road in front of them.

"Blueberry picking, huh. You know that is actually not a bad idea. We should definitely try that some other time. I can picture us out there. Just spending some time picking the berries, and then afterwards laying down on a picnic blanket and just enjoying the harvest," He said, his gaze distant.

Emily had to admit it sounded pretty good. Even better than the fantasy she’d had of the two of them baking with the blueberries.

She could just imagine Derek feeding her blueberries. While the two of them enjoyed the nature all around them. If she closed her eyes she could almost see it. Could almost imagine the way that Derek’s fingers would look as they held the delicate berries out for her to eat. She found herself wondering what it would be like if she smeared some blueberry juice on her lips and kissed Derek’s cheek. Just the thought of marking him like that.

Even if it would only be temporary, made her smile. Her thoughts turning dirty as she wondered what other parts of him she could mark with her blueberry-covered lips. Almost entirely against her will. Emily’s eyes opened and they slid towards Derek’s groin. Her imagination running wild.

So engrossed in what she would do if she ever got her hands on some blueberries. Emily was startled when Derek’s voice reached her.

"We are here," He said, and she instantly cast her gaze up, and her breath stalled in her throat.

"Oh," she breathed, her face lighting up as she recognised exactly where Derek had taken her.

It was a fair, stalls and tents set up in a field. But even as they pulled into the parking lot, Emily knew exactly what kind of fair it was.

A craft’s fair! The man really knew how to get her excited.
