Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 238: Game?
Chapter 238: Game?
He and Emily were official. It was great news, splendid even. But Derek had to admit, from an outsider’s point of view. The two of them were a bit of a mess.
They had been working together for two years before they realized that both of them were battling the same ailment. The two of them so stubborn that they had been able to keep it secret from one another for so long. And then when they had finally realized that they were both having sleep problems.
They’d had a long drawn out, torture session, trying to figure things out. Until they finally got their act together and decided that sharing a bed would be best for them. Then it took them months of pining and an accidental kiss which had sent Emily running for the two of them to finally decide to become an official couple.
But even if from an outsider’s point of view, it was an absolute hot mess. It was their hot mess. And Derek loved every single bit of it. He would not change any of it for the world. And he was not just saying that.
It might have taken them a while to get there. But all of the little mishaps that they had. The ups and downs, from Emily quitting and becoming a waitress. To her coming back, and them realizing that they needed each other.
Those had all been important building blocks in their road to becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. Without those hurdles. Derek was pretty sure that he would not appreciate how much it was a miracle for him to look over at Emily and think, that is my girlfriend. A no-doubt dumb smile playing on his lips. His heart feeling as though it were about to burst.
If his relationship with Emily had come easy. Then Derek was pretty certain that he would not have appreciated what a miracle it was. But now Derek knew just how blessed he was, and he was not about to waste any moment with her.
If ever there was an opportunity to spend more time with Emily, then he would take it. Were it up to him, most of that time would be spent in bed, the two of them alternating between cuddling and kissing. But Emily had other ideas. After breakfast, when Derek had tried to head back upstairs, she had pulled her hand out of his, her hands going to her hips.
Her head tilted to the side.
It had almost looked as though she were bracing for an argument, and Derek had searched his mind frantically.
They had been a couple less than 48 hours. What could he have done to upset her in such a short period of time? Not only that, they had been asleep through the night.
There was absolutely no way that he could have done anything to upset her during the hours in bed. But luckily for him. Before he could open his mouth and begin apologizing for things that he had not done. Emily had started talking, saving him the embarrassment.
"I have a better way for us to spend the morning," She told him, and Derek folded his hands over his chest, interested.
"Do you want to go out?" He asked. She shook her head.
"Do you want to do some online shopping?" Again she shook her head. "Watching TV then," That was met with another negative answer. And Emily moved forward, placing a gentle hand on his chest. And Derek instantly unwound his hands.
giving her better access. Leaning up, she planted a kiss on the corner of his mouth.
"I have a better idea in mind," She told him. Tapping the pads of her fingers against his muscles. Derek’s breath caught, and he leaned in a bit. His forwardness rewarded by yet another kiss.
Breath hitching, Derek sought to lengthen the contact. His hands coming up and settling around her waist, drawing her closer to him.
Just as Derek was about to get lost in the feel of her mouth against his. Enjoying the sweet taste from the tea that she’d had earlier, Emily pulled back.
He groaned in frustration and she smiled at him, a naughty glint in her eyes.
"I want us to spend time together, but not like that. How about this? Let us play a game," Despite himself, Derek found his interest piqued.
A game?
What sort of game was she on about? Was it the sexy kind? He thought.
A lecherous grin splitting his face.
He did not resist when she grabbed his hand and led him over to the living area.
When she took a hold of two cushions, Derek was fully expecting her to throw them to the side so that the two of them could get busy. But instead, she took one and gave him the other. Settling on her chosen cushion on the carpet, gesturing impatiently for him to do the same.
A frown on his face, Derek did so, and only then did Emily speak.
"Let us play a getting to know each other game," She said, and Derek huffed.
"Emily, you and I both know that that game would not be fair in any way, shape or form. You are my personal assistant. It is your job to know things about me.
I would be at a clear disadvantage," He told her. Emily shrugged and something occurred to Derek.
This was not about getting to know each other. Emily just wanted to show off how much she knew about him. Fighting the urge to smirk.
Derek instead took her in.
He could definitely turn the situation to his advantage. And judging by the way she was looking at him. Emily did not think that Derek knew much about her.
"How about this? I will tell you things that I know about you, Emily Molson.
And after that, the two of us get to play whatever game I choose," He told her.
Emily bit her lower lip, considering. And then she nodded. Clearly, she still felt that she had the advantage.
Derek was about to blow her mind. Moving his cushion a bit closer to her.
Derek got comfortable and then he started talking.
"Let’s start with the dislikes, shall we? You try your best to see the good in everybody, but my uncle is one of the few people that you dislike," Emily shrugged, not even trying to fight that point, and Derek did not fault her for it. A lot of people did not like his uncle, himself included. Moving on to the second point. Derek smiled at her.
"You also do not like superficial people. That’s why you don’t really care about fashion labels and the like. Despite everybody at the office seeming to believe that the latest brand in a pair of shoes or a dress can make or break you, you come with whatever you feel comfortable in,"
Emily nodded, once again conceding a point to him. Derek listed off a few more things that he knew she did not like and each time Emily nodded she seemed pleasantly surprised. Like she was shocked that he paid that much attention. Then once he was done with her dislikes, Derek swiftly switched to the likes.
"Your favorite color is black. For the longest time I thought that it was because of some gothic past that you’d kept hidden. But now I know better. You like the color black because that was the color of the first thread that you ever used to embroider," Emily took a startled breath, staring at him with wide eyes.
"How did you..."She began to ask, and it was Derek’s turn to shrug.
"I did not put the pieces together until the first time I saw you embroider. You might not notice it, but every time you pick up the color black, your face lights up. That speaks of memory, a fond one,"
"So it was most likely the first color you ever used," Emily nodded, her eyes glistening, and Derek moved on.
Again, when it came to the things that she liked, Derek listed them all off without getting a single thing wrong.
From the fact that she liked her tea with two sugars, and if somebody happened to give her a cup with too much sugar, she poured out half and instead of adding milk, she added more hot water.
Derek also hit her with a truth that she was not expecting him to know. The fact that her favorite food was not actually lasagna as she liked telling people. That it was actually duck.
Anything to do with duck, from duck eggs, to french fries fried in duck fat, duck breasts, and all other parts of duck, Emily was all for it.
Pretty much any time that they had eaten out when they had time to sit and enjoy their food. Emily was more than likely to order something with duck in it.
"How did you know all of that?" She finally asked when Derek finished.
He gave her a smile. "It is your job as my PA to know things about me.
But Emily, you are the longest lasting personal assistant that I have ever had. It would make me a terrible boss, and an awful person if I did not pick up a few things about you along the way. You are an interesting person. It is worth it to know all of that about you,"
By now, Emily was blushing bright red, and Derek saw it fit to press his advantage.
"Now, I do believe that you and I agreed that if I were to do good in this game, then I get to pick what we do next. How about we play a different type of game?
A naughty one. Let’s learn each other’s bodies," He said, moving in for a kiss, a wolfish grin on his face.
