Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 182: Uninvited Guest
Chapter 182: Uninvited Guest
With lunch over, and with her and Derek having finally come up with a solution to their problem. Emily had thought that it would be smooth sailing from there. And as she had walked back into Haven Group headquarters with Derek walking step by step with her.
Emily had thought that nothing could surprise her for the remainder of that day. And then the moment that she had set foot in her office, that self-assured notion had been thrown out the window.
Having left her office to go to lunch, Emily had not expected to come back and find someone there.
She froze at the door, stunned by the sight of a figure seated at her desk. Behind her, Derek stopped just shy of bumping into her. She knew because she felt the heat of him against her back.
"Emily, what is it?" He asked. Only for him to cut off midway when he saw what it was that she was looking at.
As far as surprises went, coming back from lunch to find somebody sitting in your chair was not a good one. But even if it was not a good surprise, it was also not a bad one.
On occasion, especially when he was having a hissy fit of epic proportions and expected everybody to just bow to his whims, Derek’s uncle was known to just show up in his nephew’s office. Sometimes he was there before Derek was, and other times he just barged in and acted like he owned the place.
But that was Derek.
Such drama, Emily could deal with when it came to him. But she had never in all of her time at Haven Group come into her own office to find somebody there. But that was exactly what was happening.
At least it is not Lucas, Sebastian’s PA was tiring.
Emily consoled herself with that as she walked in.
"Padma, to what do I owe the pleasure?" She asked, addressing the head of HR like there was nothing wrong with her unexpected appearance. For her part, Padma also seemed to be intent on playing things off as though there was nothing amiss. Could she know?
Did she suspect? But how? Emily had been back at Haven group for a while now and she and Derek had been certain that all traces of what he had done to keep her quitting, her job a secret had been well and truly buried.
What could Padma have unearthed that had her sitting at Emily’s desk like a villain from a bad movie? Walking into the office proper, Emily tried not to let any of her trepidation show.
Turning slightly so that she was in between both Derek and Padma. Emily looked over at Derek. His face was calm and blank. It was the face he wore when he was assessing whether or not to attack somebody or whether to play nice.
So far it seemed that he was as in the dark as she was, and he was trying his best to keep his cool so that he did not play his hand. This could turn out to be bad. Her fingers laced together, Padma looked at the two of them. "Well then, I’m glad to see that the two of you had a lovely lunch,"
"I wish I had a lovely lunch, but I could not go to lunch. Do you wish to guess why?" Emily shrugged. Unable to think of anything.
"Well, it is because of you, Miss Molson,"
Emily found herself really wishing that whatever look it was that she had on her face at that moment. It conveyed confusion, and not the absolute fear that was suddenly gripping her chest. How had they been found out?
They had done absolutely nothing that would arouse anybody’s suspicion. They had been playing under the radar for weeks. This was bad. This was not good. They had to come up with something. "Padma, whatever it is that you think I..." Padma held up a hand.
"You are the CEO’s personal assistant. I get that. That means that you are busy. But even so, it does not excuse you from doing your duties as any other employee in the company. We have procedures for a reason," Emily paused.
This time, the confusion on her face was genuine, and not just a mask for fear. What? What was she on about? Padma was still looking at her expectantly, so Emily decided to just ask, "What are you talking about Padma?" She asked the other woman and Padma laughed.
"Have you forgotten?
You came back from leave, and you have yet to come and finish signing the paperwork over at HR so that everything is authorized to show that you had a proper extension,"
Oh...oh! If it would not have been suspicious, Emily would have let out a loud sigh of relief.
Looking over at Derek who was doing his best impression of a statue, it seemed that he too would have done the same. Alright, I will follow you right now and do it, she told the other woman. And Padma stood, looking very happy with herself. She left after that, and Emily was right behind her.
She turned back only once to look at Derek. The two of them sharing a look that was relief, joy, and a healthy dose of adrenaline thrown in for good measure.
By the time that Emily made it to Padma’s office, the look was completely gone. And she was all business as she signed the papers that Padma put in front of her.
"Sign here, here, here and here and we’ll be good. All of the payment for your extra two weeks will be processed as well," The other woman told her. And Emily finished everything off.
"Is there anything else?" She asked and Padma shrugged. She reached over and opened one of her drawers and then she came back with a tiny box, and gave it over to Emily. Taking it cautiously, Emily opened it and gasped.
"Padma, I cannot accept this," She said, staring at the tiny bag of chocolate. To the untrained eye, it might have looked like any other piece of chocolate, but Emily knew better. This was the chocolate that chocolatiers were currently raving about. Something about it having been the newest flavor of chocolate to be invented in decades.
It was very expensive, and Emily had no idea why Padma felt the need to just gift it to her. "Emily, you might not see it but you are worth way more than that chocolate. I just want you to have it, okay, so take it," The other woman said and refused to explain anymore.
"Just take it and enjoy it as a treat," She said and pushed Emily out of her office. Making her way back to her own office, Emily dropped the chocolate on her desk and went over to Derek’s. She knocked. "Come in," He said. And that is what she did.
When she opened the door, he was sitting down, clearly hard at work on something.
"What did she want? Was it really just a matter of signing paperwork?" Derek asked, and Emily nodded.
"Yes, she just had a few things that she needed me to take care of,"
He let out a relieved sigh. But Emily just continued to stand there, an idea that had been playing at the corners of her mind since Padma’s unexpected gift, clawing away at her, and wanting to come out.
"Is there anything else, Emily?" Derek asked, and Emily nodded.
"She gave me a gift. Chocolate. The expensive kind. I’m sure you know it," Derek shrugged, pausing his typing to look at her.
"Whatever it is that Padma chooses to gift you with is her own business. And what you do with it is up to you," He said. And Emily shook her head. He was not getting it. She had to make it clear.
"Derek, Padma just gave me expensive chocolate out of nowhere. It’s a treat. I know I’m going to enjoy it. But it got me thinking. We are approaching this sleep thing like a business deal now. We are forgetting what a miracle it is. For us to even be able to discuss being able to sleep," She said. And then she went for it.
"Why don’t we just take this Wednesday night, even if it is just this one, and add it to our list, to sleep together tonight? Would one extra day really matter? Let’s do it, even if it’s just for now. It can be a treat between the two of us," She said. And he looked at her, wide eyed.
