Sleeping With The CEO -

Chapter 179: War Declared
Emily was very lucky that she was invaluable as a personal assistant.
Plus, she was someone that Derek really needed in order to be able to sleep. If not, she would have been fired before their little lunch meeting was over. That was all he could think as he looked over at her. Really, she expected him to list his reasons, and then give information as to why he thought that those reasons were important. Really? Derek just could not believe it. But just because he refused to believe it. It did not mean that it was not happening. And as he stared at Emily and Emily stared back, Derek realized that the only way out was through.
He was going to have to jump through her hoops in order to show her why his days were the best choice.
She was his subordinate, his PA.
She should trust him on these things. But it seemed that Emily had a stubborn streak. He had caught glimpses of it. Especially during that whole thing with the protest going on with the solar panel plant workers. But now he was seeing it more and more. And it was especially evident right at that very moment. Why was she being difficult about this? Both of them needed sleep. All she had to do was just agree with him, and they could get on with it. But it seemed that that would not be happening. And so, letting out a sigh, Derek decided to just play ball.
" Emily," He began, "I am not doing this to be difficult. The reason that I am saying Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is because those are the best days. Look at it this way. Mondays, everybody needs to recover after a Monday. And think of how great it would be after a blue Monday to be able to go home and sleep. We have never had that before in our lives. Other people get to do that. Why can’t we? Why should we deny ourselves?" He gave her a pleading look.
"And once we’ve put in Monday. Let’s do what you said earlier, and just follow in with the rest of the other days to make it four days and then we can go our separate ways. Not sleeping the other three days of the week," It made a lot less sense when he said it out loud.
Blue Mondays? Was that the best that he could come up with. When he had thought of it, it had sounded like a pretty good argument. But now that it was out there.
Derek himself was struggling to figure out exactly what it was that he had been trying to get across to her. And it seemed that Emily was having the same problem. But her way of dealing with it when she shot down the idea was very logical and Derek had to agree with her. "Derek, as much as I appreciate your argument on the whole Blue Monday thing, there is no way that it will be easy for me to explain working nights on Mondays to my mom. There’s just something about working nights on Mondays that is suspicious,"
"If I did not have anything to do over the weekend, why all of a sudden would something always pop up on Mondays?"
"It is more suspicious than work that piles up throughout the week and needs to be addressed or if we’re going by the excuse that you came up with, would it not be easier for us to pick the end of the week so that she truly buys it when I tell her that it is an extra project that I am doing for work?"
"After all, extra projects are some things that you do after hours, just when the week is winding down, right? There was a flaw in her logic, and her argument also did not seem as well put together," In fact, Derek was struggling to make sense of most of her reasoning.
But for the life of him, Derek could not seem to find any holes in what she was saying, and so he was forced to just nod along, and agree, conceding a point to her. But at least it seemed as though she was not there just to argue for the sake of it. When she opened her mouth again, it was to come up with her own suggestion. "How about we try and make it Tuesday nights, and then we skip Wednesdays and we go Thursday, you know? Ditch the full continuous cycle thing?"
This time it was Derek’s turn to shoot her down. "We cannot do that. We need sleep Emily. This is not just something that we are doing for the fun of it. We need this. And we cannot let ourselves have broken up bits of sleep after suffering for so long. How many years has it been since you got a good night’s rest?" He asked. And she looked down.
"I have not slept well since I was 10," She said. And Derek nodded in understanding.
"I have not slept well since I was 12," She looked up at that, the two of them, understanding just how much they really needed each other.
They were talking decades now. This needed to be solved.
They had the cure in their hands. Now they just had to find a way to take it in a way that would not be harming either of them.
"Perhaps rather than interrupting the cycle, we could try something else. But I am certain that you will not agree with it," Derek proposed. "Try me," she said. And he decided to just tell her.
"How about we cut the days down from four to two. We have survived seven days of nothing but torture. Surely we can enjoy two days of good sleep and keep going?" She was shaking her head before he even finished. "No way. That will not work," And Derek shrugged. He had not really meant it.
He had just wanted to have the idea out there for her to know it was an option. He was not a fan of it either. But the minutes were ticking away. Pretty soon their lunch hour would be over and they would have to head back to the office. They had to have this thing settled before then. But it seemed as though something as simple as the days of the week was going to be a huge barrier. When it came to them getting the good night’s rest that they needed.
Relationships, Derek thought.
They were too much about compromise and communication. It was why he avoided them so much. But his relationship with Emily was a must for him. It was not something that he could just abandon, and move on to the next one. He needed this just as much as she did. So they had to solve things.
Leaving his meal altogether, no longer bothering even with taking sips from his drink or with pushing food around on the plate, Derek stared directly at Emily.
"You know what? This is a waste of time. This whole thing with us trying to talk out things is not working. Let’s just handle this old school, and see how it works out," He said. She stared at him, uncomprehending. And Derek pushed back slightly. He cracked his knuckles, then he pounded a fist against his open palm. "Are you ready, Emily?" He asked, his eyes narrowing. She gulped, and Derek did not try to bite back a smirk.
When he was done with her, she would be agreeing to everything he said.
