Sleeping With The CEO

Chapter 170: Round Two Loading

Work that day was different, but a good different, and it was one that Emily could really get used to. With all of the energy that she had expended early in the morning going from Derek’s penthouse back to her own apartment. Emily should have been dead on her feet, but it was quite the opposite. She felt as though she was floating.

Task that normally took her around half an hour to complete were now done in thirty minutes on average. Her eyes danced over emails, memos, reports, anything and everything really, with what was quite frankly a terrifying speed.

But even after she was done with all of them and rechecked them to make sure that in her haste, she had not made a mistake, Emily found no errors in her work. It was exhilarating, like she had somehow tapped into the best energy drink ever. She wanted to open the door to Derek’s office and say to him, ’Derek, you are a miracle worker. How about this? Let us extract whatever wonderful thing is in you that makes it so easy for me to fall asleep when I am with you. And once we have extracted it, let’s sell it by the bottle. I am telling you we could make a killing,’ But Emily was too professional for that. So all she did was just stare at Derek’s office door, imagining how he would react if she made such a request. s her mind wandered over things that were improbable, at some point it switched on to more realistic topics. In the morning when she had left, Emily had not had time to think on it. But now with the majority of her tasks done, all that she could do was think.

Being held in Derek’s arms had felt wonderful. Whether or not she’d had nightmares that night Emily was unsure. But one thing was for certain, even if she’d had, the feel of Derek’s arms against her would have been enough to chase all of them away.

Being held by the man felt like coming too close to a volcano. Hot, bright, and absolutely mesmerizing. A faint blush across her cheeks. Emily remembered looking down, and seeing that Derek’s top had ridden up slightly . Some of his toned abs on display. She would have loved to say that she had not oggled him at all. But at the end of the day, Emily was only a woman. A single woman too, so she had stolen a look before she had forced herself out of the bed, and into the bathroom. Even though she had only peaked for a few seconds, and then admonished herself and ran into the bathroom, it seemed that those few seconds had been enough to infect her with a new set of problems. When they had been negotiating their rules.

Emily had been adamant in making sure that whatever came of them sleeping together, their professional relationship would remain untouched. And that had not changed. She and Derek had been very professional to one another ever since they had come to work. Neither of them giving away the fact that they had actually spent the night sleeping in each other’s arms. But while Emily had covered the professional front, she had not covered the emotional front. She could not quite put words to it. But something in her, had shifted after their night together and she had the feeling that it would not be going back to the way it was before they had slept together.

Now when Emily looked at Derek, she did not just see her boss. She saw her savior. Someone who had banished her nightmares just by existing. He was somehow strong enough to keep at bay the monsters that had been chasing Emily for years, robbing her of sleep no matter what she tried to do. Although she would deny it, even with her last breath, it really was changing the way that Emily saw Derek.

Throughout the day she had kept stealing looks at him. When she saw him in his suit, she remembered how he looked in his pyjamas. Not only that, she recalled how impossibly young sleep made him, taking away all of the lines that came with the stress of leading a company. In addition to that, Emily now knew exactly how the hard muscles beneath the fabric felt. And from time to time, she had to curl her hands into fists. Fighting with herself, her nails digging into her palms, resisting the urge to reach over and touch. To make sure that all of that muscle that she had touched while in bed with him was still there. It was embarrassing, and Emily hoped that it was only temporary, that she got used to it quickly, before Derek noticed that there was something odd in the way that she kept eyeing him.

But even with a sudden case of peeping Jane. Emily managed to be professional enough to make it through the rest of the day. Surprisingly, when it came time to go home, Derek left his office not staying in like he usually did, and instead of passing by her desk as she expected him to.

He stopped right in front of it.

"See you tomorrow, Emily," He said, but instead of walking away, he just stood there, and Emily raised a brow, silently asking him what was going on. "It is Friday," He said, his tone sounding off. "Do you have any plans for the night?" Oh, Emily suddenly realized what he was doing. He was asking if she would be able to make it tonight without being too direct. Shrugging, she looked up at him. "Oh, nothing much. I just planned to sleep in. That is all," She told him. And something in him instantly uncurled. He no longer seemed as tightly wound as when he had come in. "Good, good, sleep is important. I too intend to just sleep in tonight," He said, and he walked out the door, leaving Emily feeling as though she was about to turn into a puddle.

A gooey messy puddle, overwhelmed by the thought of sharing a bed with Derek Haven once again.
